*************  This GTG is canceled ****************

Anyone up for a hike?  Muir Woods in the Bay Area is a peaceful place to hike.  It's not everyday that you get to walk along side some monumental Redwood trees.  You can find information about Muir Woods - here.

Muir Woods contains 6 miles of trails. There is a 1/2 hour loop, a 1 hour loop, and a 1 1/2 hour loop as well as longer hikes on trails that extend into surrounding parks. All of these walks afford views of thousands of old-growth coast redwoods, the tallest living things in the world. Picnicking, pets, bicycles, smoking, and camping are not permitted within the park.

Entrance Fees

$5.00—Adult (16 years of age and older)*
Free—Children (15 years of age and under)
$20.00—Muir Woods Annual Pass**

* Entrance fee also valid for same-day use at John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, CA

** This pass is good for 12 months. It admits the pass holder and all accompanying passengers in a private vehicle to Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley, CA and John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, CA.

Itinerary

9AM - Sacramento Member's Meeting Point
- Meet at Eppie's West Sacramento (4657 W Capitol Ave - Exit West Capitol Ave and turn right at the stop sign)

9:30AM
- Leave Eppie's by 9:30AM or when all members have arrived

12PM - Local Member's Meeting Point
- Have lunch at Crissy Field or at Muir Beach (1 Cove Lane, Muir Beach, CA) - TBD.

If we meet at Crissy Field, there is a Safeway near by where you can buy your own lunch.  There is also a Starbucks coffee.

If we meet at Muir Beach, then every one should bring their own picnic lunch.

1PM
- Head over to Muir Woods and hike trail 1 of 3 trails (1/2 hour trail, 1 hour trail, or 1/2 hour trail)

Directions:
Muir Woods is located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Take Highway 101 to the Highway 1/ Stinson Beach Exit. Follow the signs to Muir Woods. Roads to the park are steep and winding. Vehicles over 35 feet long are prohibited. Parking space is very limited and fills quickly on most days. There are no RV parking facilities.

Latitude: 37.8989199 (North)
Longitude: -122.57051 (West)

2:30 - 3PM
- Meet back at entrance of Muir Woods

4PM to whenever
- Tiburon for coffee, dessert, or dinner

My recommendation would be Guaymas Mexican Restaurant.  It over looks the Bay.  Outdoor seating.

Address: 5 Main St, Tiburon, CA 94920
Phone:  (415) 435-6300

Notes - the weather in the Bay Area is unpredictable so always bring a sweater or coat.  no pets are allowed in Muir Woods.  all danger signs are posted, e.g. poison oak, animals, slippery rocks, etc.

Bring pocket change for tolls, entrance fees, street parking.  Bring a camera (charge your batteries and bring an extra memory card).

Attendees:
- Rolando and Ebru
- Mark (maybe)
- you?

I'm a newbie here but Wildfire sent me a link to this thread. I might be interested in the outing. I won't know this far out if I will be able to attend but, sounds like fun!! I'll have to try and remember to check the region forums. So far I have only logged into the for sale forum and the Ext zone (which I will be on regularly).  Wave

Hi everyone-

Just a heads up- I was there this weekend and it was P-A-C-K-E-D! It was so busy that the "overflow" parking was two miles from the gate! I was blown away. This was about 3:30p. You may want to consider moving to Saturday or make it earlier. Also, it was really chilly as it was foggy.

Hope this helps,

Ed

I don't think any special event was happening.. just lots and lots of tourists. Even the GG bridge was packed. When america is on sale with the weak dollar, everyone comes a runnin' it seems.

I have never seen it so packed. You may want to call the ranger station and find out if it was a fluke or consistent. Perhaps find a sweet spot timewise.

It was so bad, we didn't even go....

Now I do   Big laughter with tears  All great places to have lived.  Tiburon is one of my favorite places in Marin.  I worked in San Rafael for many years while living in the City.  There are many cool places to walk around.

Muir Woods is only a small sampling of what's really out there.
