Always nice to find ways to cause accidents.

Search for lockpick in the proper section.

While that has been done it is really not a safe mod to do and in some states it's illegal to watch a video while moving.
Not only for your own safety but for all those around you please reconsider doing this mod!!!!!!!
We all complain about drivers using cellphones and this would be even worse.
I agree that there are lots of distractions for drivers now and some are controlable or in a short term level. I understand that driving is an everyday thing for most of us and no one goes out to plan to have an accident. (except a suicidal person)
Due to the everyday use of vehicles people don't treat driving as a Deadly Force activity. A minor distraction can lead to someones death very easily. Maybe a better solution would be to make more frequent stops and stretch you legs if a person is tired or bored and needs the distraction of a movie while driving. I know it is just an argument about the amount of distraction but a nav screen usually distracts a person for a split second at a time and that can be limited by having a unit with audio so it will talk and say turn right 500 feet etc.
When watching a movie, drivers will have the audio track to block their hearing but worse is the visual distraction for a longer time. Most people put there favorite movies on a player (some even put porn on) and think about it, would you watch a car chase, fight scene , or love scene in small glances or would you be distracted for longer and your reactions would be slower.
Latest studies say talking on a cellphone, even handsfree gives the driver the reactions of a drunk driver. So driving while watching has got to be just as bad or maybe even worse. Would you let your family climb in a truck with a drunk driver? Or how many "drunk" drivers are you willing to drive around?
Also why can't we talk to the people in a car with us? Why tune out the real people in our life and zone out to a movie etc.?
Having an accident is sometimes playing the odds and I feel we need to try and stack the odds in our favor if at all possible.
I admit I am NOT perfect and make mistakes but I don't try to limit my abilities or chances deliberately while driving.

I know this is an ongoing issue and has been discussed on other threads. I will always be on the side of safety and put entertainment while driving at the bottom of my mod list. I know others will disagree but after spending 25 years responding to accidents and seeing what destruction and death a small mistake can make I feel it is an important issue to consider.

I also know the old saying of :
"Ever notice how anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?"

"Ever notice how anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a maniac?"

Wouldn't know... don't come across that many people who are driving faster than me.  Most of them aren't really maniacs... they're just police officers. Smiley

In all seriousness, I really agree with your post.  I often find myself thinking of how drivers these days are far too 'automated'.  IMO, drivers don't really stop and consider what operating a car really is.  It is operating a piece of heavy machinery.  Sure, we watch construction workers and landscapers operate various pieces of equipment like front end loaders, backhoes, etc and think that they should be carefully concentrating on their work.  Yet, we hurl missiles down the highway at far higher speeds that sometimes weigh just as much as construction equipment and think it's a great time to watch "Finding Nemo!"

Reading this post and picturing people driving and watching DVDs reminds me of a billboard that I used to see while I lived in Germany.  It read "Und wer faehrt?"  Translated... "And who's driving?"  It showed a guy sitting in the driver's seat, talking on a cell phone, drinking a coke and smoking a cigarette.

Distracted drivers scare me far more than fast drivers ANY DAY!

I'd like to know how to do this mod as well.  Not for me to watch a movie while I'm driving but for my passenger who might want to watch it.  Before  someone says to put the passenger in back, the back seat is already full.

You can look for them on eBay for your specific head unit...  Or as earlier stated, try a search...  It's usually just a wire that gets grounded when the vehicle is in park...  Most people put it on a little switch so you can have it when you want it and switch it back when you don't...

i don't suggest having the dvd player setup to play while driving but it can be done.  you need to look in your owners manual and find out what kind of pattern is needed to activate the dvd player (some just put the e-brake on once, others on for 3 seconds, off for a second and back on, there could also be other patterns)  then once you find out that you can continue. if there's no pattern just put the park brake wire to the ground and your done.  if there's a pattern then you need to put a switch inline to turn the ground on and off on that wire.   i do suggest putting a switch regarless just incase you get pulled over you can shut the screen off and not lose the player.

For legal reasons you might consider a visor monitor, but on most units you just take the wire going to the parking brake and attach it to ground instead. I had to do it because I have no parking brake...but I don't watch movies while driving.

Maybe they should make a front monitor that swivels towards the passenger???

lots of flip outs do turn towards the passenger.  it might be a manual adjustment though.

google will tell you everything you need to know and by finding the info yourself, you dont drag anyone down with you.

All I ask is that people willing to do this inform me when & where they are on the road doing it so I can avoid becoming their "target"

It would be a big shocker to someone doing this, if after an accident, your insurance was declared void for an illegal setup... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I think it's a little cheaper to buy a movie ticket... Tongue

there is another way to do it.  i've got a kenwood dvd player with a dual zone ability alng with a set of head rest screens so my son can watch cartoons or monster trucks ( Thumbs up!) while on long road trips. with the dual zone active i can listen to and control my ipod on the main deck while he's listening and watching his things and i don't see anything on his screen.  if you had a visor mount screen and set up the rear zone to go to that then you passenger could watch tv and it wont show on the main player.  here's the truck http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3171969

He probably will not respond, since this will put a lot of folks in danger and get the driiver a ticket if it is spotted by law enforcement.

Ditto that. There are more then enough risks in life without creating one to endanger all of us.
Please please reconsider this. You might say it is for passenger but we all are easily distracted by things. Think about how quick your eyes are off the road and someone runs a light etc. or how fast you are going and wandered into another lane. Split seconds take lives.

You can do as others stated and ground the parking brake wire. Although on mine I had to unground and then reground it again everytime I started the truck, to get it to work. I just got mine put in yesterday though, so I haven't had time to hook it to a switch. Although I think I will just get the bypass off ebay for $30, seems like the safest way to do it to me.

Now, I agree with everyone that it's definitely NOT a good idea to watch while driving, but it is really cool for the passenger, and on mine I like to play my music DVD's while I drive and just listen. But at night the screen hurts your eyes if you leave it on a while. Definitely control yourself though and don't glance over even for a second because that's all it takes to get in an accident.
