'08 Honda Civic - The Anti - Av!!

Got a letter in the mail Friday concerning a class action lawsuit against GM for faulty instrument clusters on '03 - '05 Av's, Tahoes, etc. Since I had already had mine fixed and gotten rid of the truck, and Dar's had no problems I threw it in the trash. Saturday Dar came in from her mom's all flustered and said she got on the freeway - hit 70 mph, and realized every car on the freeway was passing her. She knew to check the tach (from my problems) and knew that she should be running about 2 grand on the RPM and was way less then that. Then she noticed all the other gauges were out of wack!

Called Thorobred today and she get's a knew instrument cluster tomorrow, as well as an A pillar cover that broke yesterday. I will hit them up for Gatorback when I take it in tomorrow as well, it's looking pretty bad! Now if they would just start a class action lawsuit for that... Maybe I could recover all of my money that I spent on 303, Future Floor Wax etc!

Most of that is good news, it would be good if something would be done about the cladding.

Yup, got my letter last week too. But I replaced my cluster a year ago with a new one that has the trans gauge and the updated stepper motors. So there goes my $$$. But I do have the receipt so I'll see if GM will honor that and reimburse me (I never did have a gauge functionality issue though, just wanted a trans gauge).

Since I got the Av in Sept 04 I have spent just $283.29 on 'normal maintenance'. I wonder if any member can undercut that (maybe if they do ALL their own maintenance work)?

My chevy Avalanche rocks big time!

Got it back tonite and I'm happy to report a good dealer experience. New cluster is in and working, new A pillar in place and looking good, and an ABS problem I noticed this morning is fixed as well - as well as an oil change with a discount! But the best news of the day is......
GATORBACK APPROVED!!Gets done next week. Only had to do a little steering to the TSB's and the Gatorback site, and a little arm twisting due to her being 3 months past the cut-off of 3 years. (probably helps that I do all my fleet work through them at about $1500 a week!)
A real good Thorobred experience!!

.....and speaking of timing......while it's in getting Gatorbacked it will be having some body work done to repair the damage she suffered after she was rear ended on I-10 Wednesday nite!

So I am guessing Dar was not hurt. What happened? One of those famous local freeway sudden "everybody brake now" situations?

"Trailer hitch", my brother. A big sticky-outy-far one like mine. Good cheap rear end protection.

I got hit (very gently) and all I had to do was touch up the end of the hitch with some black Rustoleum. Somebody [at college?] must have pulled into a parking place and did not see my hitch and hit it, scraping up the paint and the reflective tape strip. I found the scrape when I washed the truck and don't even know what day it might have happened. Looked like silver paint.

I also now have a slightly dented LF wheelwell "upper lip" where a dude on the US60 gently drifted over with his little old Nissan pick_em_up truck and his bed touched my fender. I can barely see the dent it is so shallow. He didn't want to pull over until he saw me get on my cell phone!  Beating

Coming home on I-10, pulling away from a traffic jam. She accelerated up to about 10mph when she got hit from behind by a guy doing about 45 mph. He was apparently on the phone and just nailed her hitch. Knocked the bumber and grill off his beater, and her bowtie hitch cover put a nice bowtie hole in his radiator! He was driving an old Chevy sedan - mid 90's, with NO WINDSHIELD IN IT! (DPS was real happy about that!)
He was a migrant supposedly with insurance, but we still haven't heard from his company.

She is going to need a new bumber and some tow package adjustment, but nothing major on our end.

Dropped the truck off at Thorobred tonite to get the accident damage fixed and the Gatorback applied. They are a little concered about pulling the LED's in the sail panels out....That should be interesting! I'll keep you posted on how it goes - it's only the second Gatorback job they have done.

Finally got the truck back tonite - worth the wait! The Gatorback looks awesome - we forgot how good it can look without putting a ton of crap on it. Once State Farm pulled their head out of their a$$ and authorized the replacement of the tow package parts and not just the bumper the accident damage is looking good as well. Finally - all is well and Dar is back doing the Happy Dance!

Power Chevorlet on Bell Rd repainted the cladding sorry I meant the back sail panels, back covers and tail gate trim on both of our avs last week under warranty. They look nice and black again. So if yours is looking whitish, look into getting it renewed if you are still in the warranty period.

I was talking to the guy who painted our trucks today. He showed me the container and it was black gator back stuff. I did not originally realize it was the same thing. He says it only covered under the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty and it can only be done once. He was asking if I knew of others in the local club who had it done and how well does it seem to be holding up. But I don't know who else got it done besides Darlene, Eric and I.
