Found this article on the next-gen Denali and Denali EXT switching over to the Lambda platform. Since the conversation is about the EXT, also talking about the next-gen AV --

http://www.motortrend.com/future/future_vehicles/112_0811_next_generation_cadillac_escalade/index.html

Quote:

"And with all this canceling going on, you'd think that the Escalade EXT would be doomed. You'd be wrong: GM also is rumored to be considering a unibody pickup as hinted by the GMC Denali XT concept, to replace the EXT and Chevy Avalanche."

What do you think about a Lambda based AV?

Also found:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/08/i-motortrend-i-next-escalade-to-go-lambda/

Quote:

"As for the Avalanche-based Escalade EXT, MT says that GM's mulling over the idea of moving to a unibody pickup, a la the Zeta-based GMC Denali XT concept, to replace both of those vehicles. Again, not a bad idea, especially for Cadillac. The downside is that owners of the current vehicles who use them to tow will likely need to look elsewhere to fill that need."

Hmmm ...   Beating

Many people don't tow much or go offroad. I don't like the idea of a unibody/crossover AV. If the Avalanche is history when the GMT900 platform ends I'd like to see GM use the midgate on another product, hopefully they will call it an El Camino.

My wife likes the old El Caminos, so do I and we need to replace her S10 ext cab eventually. An updated El Camino with a midgate, suicide rear doors, bed covers, locking tailgate and side bins for wife's ride works for me. I'm keeping my truck though.

If they're not going to build an Avalanche truck then I'd like to see them use all the innovations on a crossover. The original El Camino wasn't practical for most people.

Have you ever seen the Avalanche they have in Australia?  Its a 4 door Ute like a 4 door el camino.  It would be interesting to see if the general could put a midgate in that.  The only problem is that its such a low volume vehicle the engineering costs would probably kill it.

The Australian Holden Avalanche is also a variation of an existing platform. If they quit building Suburbans our truck is gone too. I'd just like to see them use the midgate on another existing platform if they don't use it on full size SUVs

O.K Pain to write up with a brace banghead, but I think this drawing would look much better. from the more scooped in front facia to the side skirts with the sidepipe style exhaust to the built it sportwing and tailgate wing..I think I also like the avalanche letters on the upper rear (kind of like the H-D series f*rds).I'll draw one up better when my fractured wrist heals, but what do you think Cool!#7

Come to think of it, I'm putting a cowl induction hood on it  chevy

If that is the AVs future and mine totally dies I will be going back to the Silverado unless they destroy that too. Not at all happy with the ways we are going with trucks and cars.

Unibody?

No. Just no.

Agreed - I dont mind the look so much, but a unibody truck would nix the deal for me... Towing and offroad capabilities would be almost nonexistent.  It would be hard to call it a "truck" in the proper sense.
