These dates are all Saturday through Wednesday. If you would like to add a day to the front or back, put it in your reply. I would like to do at least one more day. Since this is looking to focus on the Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon areas, maybe we can add a two or three day optional extension for those interested. The extension would be to Moab and Arches. What do you think? I would do the extension for sure.

I haven't voted, but I will point out that DST ends (in this country anyway) on October 26.  That would make
  • September 20-24
  • October 18-22
have advantage of more daylight (eveninglight).  OTOH, these places are further south, so diminishing daylight is not as big of a kick in the pants as it is here in the north.  The sun probably still sets at 6pm even on standard time, eh?

Anyway, while these dates maximize useful daylight, they run the disbenefit of being sooner and closer to today meaning less notice for employers for "last-minute" vacation requests.  Maybe that's not a problem for anyone else; it could be for us.

Thirdly, I would rather see Mon-Thu dates to allow to-and-fro' travel on the weekends.  Mainly, that would be helpful to the OR/WA crowd.  Although, if none of us come, then have it whatever days you want and call it Southern Rendevous. Smiley  Freakin' country is too big!

I concur.  The BC Exploration Cruise/Campout could be the NW Regional Cruise for those in the WA/OR/ID/BC/Alberta areas interested in staying a little closer to home ~ or for anyone interested in driving up to see what Western Canada is like.

It is in the very beginning of its planning and all constructive input/imsight is welcome.

Well what the heck... I guess I'll cast my vote for Oct. 18 - 22.

The weather should be pretty good. I was reading that the weather for Grand Canyon NP, Zion NP, and Bryce Canyon NP are usually in the  +/- mid 60's. Summer crowds will be gone.

Personally, I don't have a problem making a change to a Mon - Thurs. itinerary...

I'm certain that everyone would like to make this meet both attractive and convenient for the majority of people who would like to participate.

And of course I'd like for our buddies from the Pacific Northwest to... "Come on down!" Wink

I would be ok switching it to Mon - Thu to make it possible for those travelling further to attend. Lets see what the interest is like and then decide. We can still use these dates and poll, just shift it if we need to.

So far, Oct 18-22 is getting all the votes. Being before the time chage is an advantage, as pointed out, and the weather will be warmer. It cools quickly in those parts.

I WAS ABOUT TO VOTE FOR 18TH - 21 OCT. UNTIL I LOOKED AT BARBS CALENDAR, HER BOSS ALREADY HAS THAT WEEK FOR VACATION. WE HAVE A PREVIOUS COMMITMENT FOR OCT. 31 - NOV. 2 SO THAT WEEK IS OUT FOR US. THE WEEK OF OCT. 11 - 19 WORKS BEST FOR US, OR NOV. 8TH - 16TH. I HAVE TO GO WITH THE SUGGESTION BRMILLER STATED ABOUT DST. I WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE HOW THE RESULTS TURN OUT.
THE IDEA IS TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO ATTEND. IF IT'S THE 18TH - 21ST I WILL BE THERE ALONE. IF IT'S THE WEEK OF THE FIRST I WON'T BE ABLE TO MAKE IT. I WILL KEEP MY FINGERS CROSSED.

As a teacher I would prefer not to have time out of the classroom away from my students.  Any chance of having this at the end of December when the kids are on winter break?

I thought about December, but the problem is the short daylight, most people would not be able to make because of holiday commitments, the North Rim is closed by then, and the weather will be not so good.

I like the idea of a December meet to somewhere. Maybe Vegas. We can stay outside of town and do Red Rock, Valley of Fire, the Dam, etc.

I created a new thread with some suggested details and narrowed down to just two dates. Here it is:

Western Regional Meet Planning

I created a new one to try and norrow the focus a bit.
