Need some help figuring out the issue with my right taillight. Of course thought it was just the bulb and replaced them but the new bulbs didn't work either.

After some investigation I noticed that the tail light works for the turn signal but will not light when the lights are on or when I apply the breaks.  Also the reverse lamp in that tail light also works.  So I know it is getting power and the bulbs are good since the turn signal works, but can't determine why they don't work when I just have my lights on or apply the breaks.

If anyone happens to have the electrical diagram for the tail lights that may help me figure it out as well.

 Help me!
Any thoughts/help is appreciated.

Here are the electrical diagrams

Be sure to check the junction block for the rear lamps for bad connections. It is behind the rear passenger tire on the body.

BUMP...

I have the saem problem, only my brakes work, right turn signal works and the reverse light works. I had backed up into a tree branch a while back and the casing craked and I believe the problem started then. Originally, the tail light and reverse light didn't work...I replaced both bulbs and got the reverse light working but not the parking light. I looked at the junction block on the passenger side under the rear wheel-well and noticed some char-marks. I sprayed some contact cleaner on a couple of the connectors (the ones I followed to that particular light) and still nothing. I also checked all fuses, including the recently-found RR PARK under the hood. All are good.

Any ideas? I will look into the wiring diagrams listed in this thread and update if I find anything that can help.

Also, if the guys posting on this topic have updates from their last post...please repost here in case there is something you may have found. It'd be appreciated!

Thanks,

M

I don't know if you found the problem with yours but I had the same problem. I chased the wires back to the fuse boxes(all 3) and tore apart the one under the hood. I didn't have continuity of the brown wire from under the fuse box. It read I didn't have it. I then went back to the back of her and started checking the plugs in the board behind the passenger side tire and the plug at the top was full of water and had rusted the male ends off the board. So if you haven't found it yet try looking there first, it took me three days to find it.
Good luck, Rebecca

First off, it drives my wife BONKERS that I am on these forums.  I joined another one just today for an old Datsun that I just bought.

Tonight, when we went out, my blinkers were flashing fast.  I checked my side view mirror, and could see that my tail lights weren't working.  When we got home, I said to the wife, I'm going on the Av. forum to check if I can solve this quickly.  I instantly found this thread, went out and found the connectors behind the pass. rear tire, and found that one had been pulled when the wife was driving this afternoon.  Problem fixed in five minutes.

I thank you and my wife thanks you.

My husband and kids can't believe I trust anybodys advice, they know how I feel about my baby, but this is a great forum and everybody is eager to help.

I had the exact same thing happen to me! After checking all the fuses and other connections, I came across the junction box behind the passenger side rear tire. A new box cost me $30 as opposed to $150 for the dealer to install.

the thing that i find weird.. with all the wires in that junction box, i've never heard of any breaking EXCEPT the tail light wires... mine was the passenger side tail lights, and it seems pretty consistent with everyone..

am i just ignorant of other cases, or is it as consistent as it seems?

It does seem to be consistant but I wonder if it just affects just a few years or all?? Seems to me that someone at the design table could figure this one out, like the lighting problems. I wouldn't give her up for anything tho and I just replaced lights with leds and haven't had any problems with lights burning out, lower feed.
