Saw this place
Mountain Lake Campground AND CABINS...
First off, has anyone been there before and if so, is it as nice as it looks??
Secondly, who would be interested.
August 21st - 23rd
What do you guys think???
Maybe we can get RisingPhoenix to come... She is a
when you get her around a campfire with some... HOT DAMN.
DETAILS:
WHEN:AUGUST 20th - 24TH
WHERE:
Mountain Lake Campground AND CABINS...
WHY: To enjoy some great fun and WV Nature.
Note: The BBB's are planning on making it a long weekend from Thursday to Monday. I have talked with the Owners and they have a new area opening in June (Area 4) that will offer 50amp service (ShapeShifter) and we could group together. THERE ARE ONLY 4 CABINS AVAILABLE. They are in "walking" distance but are right on the lake. They also offer a Pavillion that we can utilize (That worked good in Nov).
Here is the deal, we need to reserve the sites so that we are grouped together. If not, we will be spread all over the campground.

Now that sounds like a GTG that we should be able to attend.
I have never been camping at Summersville but, know of alot of people who love going down there. One of the August weekends would probably be better for us. I'm sure we would have some of Taney's family join us.
I mentioned it to them today and his granddaughter was ready to go this weekend. lol
Let me know what I can do to help get this GTG going!

Never been there myself but the coaches at my school all go up there every weekend in summer.
One of them told me this is a very large and nice camp/recreation place.
The cabins are all right on the water edge (unusual for Summersville Lake) with plenty of amenities as the website displays.
The entire Summersville area is scenic with plenty to do.
Are you bringing a boat?

Looks like a nice place.
Put us down as a maybe on this one.
Once again, when the weather gets a little bit warmer I will put this down as a destination for a nice motorcycle riding adventure to check it out.

OK, I talked to them today...looks like the best weekends will be either...
August 14th - Family day and Gospel Singing at the Lake Weekend
or
August 21st - Mardi Gras Weekend
Knowing most of you...I am thinking the latter one...now if RP comes and starts praising the Hot Damn then she will fit right in...
Now we will need to reserve what we want pretty early to get everyone together.
The cabins have all the amenities so no roughing it. But there are only a couple
Let me know your thoughts so we can start reserving them.

I just saw this thread, thanks for the heads-up BBB!
Sounds like a good time, at a nice place, with great people -- and best of all we actually have that weekend open! Put us down as attending this one.

ATV Trails
* Hatfield - McCoy Trails
I've heard of these trails, and would love to be able to ride them. Sure wish I could bring the toys along...
I know! With the Av hooked to the back of the motorhome, I'll hook the ATV trailer to the back of the Av, and pull the whole thing like a freight train!
It'll only be about 85 feet long overall... that won't raise the eyebrows of any LEOs I pass on the way, will it?
-- SS
PS: I've often toyed with the idea of hooking them all together, just to take some pictures in the driveway. But it's too scary a thought to actually drive that way!

I have several friends that have taken their ATV's to the Hatfield - McCoy trails. The have had a blast. The trails are definitely not for the faint of heart. There are some relatively easy trails but most of them are considered to be "Advanced". If is has been raining, there are many puddles that you can literally float the ATV across.

Post up if you want a reservation for a camp site or cabin.
There are only 4 cabins...
The sites will be together if we can reserve early enough...not to mention, it is their Mardi Gras weekend...we can have our own Bourbon Street...I want to get some beads...I will flash my manboobs...

Hmmm... then maybe I have to reconsider. We have about 15 miles of legal ATV trails a few miles from me, but I don't think they're really advanced enough to be considerd beginner trails.
It's all flat-land here, and most of the trails are along an old railroad bed or alongside farm fields. The most technical section goes through some woods, and it has a couple hills on it, the biggest one is almost 8 feet tall!
The section through the woods gets a lot of snow in the winter, and takes a long time to drain and dry out in the spring. This is what it looked like last spring:
That's not me, but when I did ride that section, I ended up burying it in the mud just around the bend off the left side of the picture, where the water was deep enough you couldn't see any of the mud. The ruts were deep and invisible, and once you got in one it was like following railroad tracks -- there was no way to get out of them. It took me about 20 minutes to winch myself out of it, then took about 2 hours with the pressure washer to clean up!
Maybe I have to broaden my horizons and build my skills before tackling an advanced trail.

Hi - we're new to the CAFNA.
This sounds like fun - always looking for a new place to travel. This would be the first time that we would actualy take our truck - we have a class A rv and most of the time tow a car. We would need to check into towing a lifted truck or just drive both. Will need to check with the other half before I commit to anything, lol.
Anyhow look forward to meeting up with everyone.

This would be the first time that we would actualy take our truck - we have a class A rv and most of the time tow a car. We would need to check into towing a lifted truck or just drive both.
I also will be coming in a class A, and will be towing the Av four-down behind it. It can be done, and I wouldn't think the lift would change things much. Mostly, It might require you to get a drop receiver for your motorhome hitch and flip it around so it raises the tow bar to be level. Of course, if you use a trailer, then it won't matter at all whether the truck is lifted or not.
If you want details on how I do it,
If you are already pulling a toad, you may be able to reuse some of the equipment like the tow bar, safety cables, etc. If you're using a brake-in-the-box like a BrakeBuddy, you might be able to reuse that, as well. The big concern is the weight of the Av, and whether your current tow equipment has a high enough rating, and whether your motorhome has enough towing capacity. I figure the Av weighs close to 6,000 pounds, my tow bar and motorhome tow rating is 10,000 pounds, and the safety cables are rated for 8,000 pounds, so I'm well within safe margins. But if you have a lower capacity tow bar because you are currently pulling a light car, you might have an issue.
Also, you need to have 4x4 to be able to pull it, 2WD models cannot be towed. But if your truck is lifted, you're probably 4x4 so you should be set.
Good luck, I hope you can make it, one way or another.

I updated the first post with Camping needs.
If you are planning on coming, let me know the following:
Campsite or Cabin or Tent or Hotel
Length of Camper
Type of Camper
Electric Hook Up
This way I can reserve the right thing. The area we will be going in will probably be 50A. I have to find out if there is 30A there also or you will need an adapter (under $20) and a good thing to have anyway.

BBB, I went ahead and cancelled the WWW WV gtg I was trying to coordinate in the Spring. You can rename this thread WWW WV VII if you like. I am quite familiar with this area although I have never been to this particular campground. Let me know if you need any help with anything.

Well, 02 Z71 passed the torch to me...
I have had several people PM me about the "long" weekend dates. I changed the date to reflect a Friday to Sunday. The BBBs, SS and Zimm will caravan down on Thursday and staying until Monday. Anyone is welcome to come early...just need to let me know for reservations.
I am contacting the campground today to discuss reserving the cabins and sites. I will also find a hotel for those that don't want to camp. If we can reserve the whole area, we could use it as the GTG locations.
I am making a commitment right now....if we get at least 22 Avy's...I will buy Train Horns for BBB ONLY!!! to install at this GTG.
Don't tell MzBBB though...

While you're at it, can I have a set for the motorhome?
I just need the horns, I don't need the compressor, tank, or solenoid valve, so it shouldn't be as expensive as the other 22 sets.
And when are you going to have time to install them all?

The BBB girls would rather have the line of fire than the train horns. Ohio Bell Boy can vouch for that. I think we have been asking for it for about two years!!!

Thank goodness we have MrsWVAV to keep us posted on the upcoming activities!!!!!!
As I told her, I am not sure what August holds for us! Connor will be in Football and Colton in the High School Marching Band. (be still my heart. He was in a CAR SEAT when we joined this club! UGH!) Anyway, this is the weekend before school starts so I don't know what our schedule will look like! It's close enough that we could make it a day trip if we need to, or stay at a local hotel. Basically, put us on the "We'll See" list!!!

Id like the all 4 on high mod if anyone attending has the time do it. I was afraid of messing something up. My son did the FTADRL's and he has been after me to get this done
. If not ill just have to get him to do it for me. lol.

Are these site dimensions the depth or width, or max equipment length? Is there room to park the Av in addition to the MH at the site, or will the Av have to be elsewhere? (If you remember from Athens, the Av barely fit on the site.)

Are these site dimensions the depth or width, or max equipment length? Is there room to park the Av in addition to the MH at the site, or will the Av have to be elsewhere? (If you remember from Athens, the Av barely fit on the site.)

SS...She said that your rig will fit there...If you can deal with 30A...there are 55' one's down near me. That would be my suggestion but I am not sure what demands you put on your rig...

Just got off the phone with the owner. She is real excited to have our group there.
She said that the campground is between an airport and the lake.
She is willing to help me coordinate activities if we are interested...
Some of the one's she listed:
Plane Tours (I'm thinking an aerial of all the avy's parked there)
Boat Rentals
Scuba Diving
Snorkeling
Horseback Riding
ShapeShifter, BlueZimm and the BBB's are planning on caravanning down on Thursday Morning, and staying until Monday.
I am planning a late afternoon gathering at the campground on Saturday for Mods and general shenanigans, with dinner to follow...JOHNB...you need to make the trek here...
She is supplying us Electric and two big white tents in an area where they usually have their 50's Car Show...
This is a family campground and they only allow alcohol at your campsite or cabin...
I would say, as long as it is concealed in a different container or mixed in Jello...it would be OK...
Instead of Jello Shots...they will need to be Jello cubes...

I did a little figuring...if you make one of those CPVC Marshmallow Guns...you should be right on the money
Just looking at this thing again, if this was all to scale, the marshmallow would be a big as our Avy's and SS's Rig would be a 3200 sq ft Motor Home...

I suppose I could slum it and get by on 30 Amps. It all depends on how hot it is in WV in late August. With 30 Amps, I can only run one air conditioner at a time. If it's too hot, that's a real sacrifice!

Nah, it's just a little one. It's not a sqft over 3180.
When you're firing those marshmallows, just make sure you hit the tips of the roasting forks sitting next to the campfire!

Other than BBB's added drawing elements, it looks like the map he posted is pretty close to scale. Here's an actual overhead shot of the place.

Also, you need to have 4x4 to be able to pull it, 2WD models cannot be towed. But if your truck is lifted, you're probably 4x4 so you should be set.
Good luck, I hope you can make it, one way or another.
First thanks to all for the BIG AV WELCOME!!

Opps - messed up on a post a few back - anyhow here is the finish.
First thanks to all for the BIG AV WELCOME!! My husband found this site and I've been checking it out. You all seem like a great group of folks!
Thanks for all the feedback on the towing - RV will handle it - we are use to pulling a 16 foot trailer with pro-street van + tool boxes, golf cart etc. I guess we are just concerned being lifted and top heavy, we haven't pulled it before. Yes it is a 4x4. This is our second AV. Normally we just pull the car so we can run around, always miss the truck, but we know it is waiting for us when we get home. We think it will be fun pulling it around.
We will keep this event in mind and keep checking this thread for updates.

Since the area that we will be camping is not on their map, are there any tent sites there? I certainly wouldn't mind paying for a site that has power if that is all they have that is close to everyone else.

Maybe you can find one or two more people w/tents to split the cost of the site? I am thinking you can get a few tents on a 30' trailer site.

OK...
Site #449 has been designated for tents. Due to insurance reason, there is a max of 6 people per site.
Post up when you make reservations so I can keep track. If we need another tent site, we can do it.
Again, mention "AVALANCHE CLUB"
HUGZ,
Golf Cart Rentals are $85 per day with $100 deposit. As long as you don't drive it in the lake, you get the $100 back...

OK, site 449 is reserved for Aug 20-23. Anyone else interested in sharing the site, just let me know. I will have one tent.
I know most people will be bringing campers, but is anyone else interested in bringing thier motorcycle? I have been to the area and it is a great place to ride. Just thought I would throw that out there.
Also if you think that we might need it, I have a 20'x30' canopy that I can bring.

Ok, people who is gonna be next to get those reservations made? You have less then a week to get the guaranteed spots with the rest of the AV's. I know you all don't want to miss this GTG!!!
I think someone might have reserved spot #448.
I know I received a confirmation # for it... and when I asked about it they said it was supposed to be sent to another member of the AV club. Who was it?

I think that was an error. I talked to them and they first said that you were on it...but you said you were on 455 and they corrected it....
Let's go everyone...don't hesitate. This place has a ton of activities that we can do...and remember 22 avys...

Sorry for the delay, needed to straighten out some personal issues first. But, finally, the reservations are made: we'll be in site 460.

With my new job, I don't know if I'll be able to make it...I'll have some vacation time accrued by then, but I don't know how much and I cannot miss STI!
I need to see how far this is from my newer and better residence!

I am heading up to West Virginia this weekend for some motorcycle riding, bicycle riding and canoeing. This campground is on our short list of places to visit while we are motorcycle riding. I am not making any guarantees that we will make it there but we are certainly going to try a recon run to the place.

Hi all
Sorry I've been out of touch it's just been a bit crazy around here. Taney has been off since before Memorial day trying to figure out some medical problems. Since he's been home the family has taken that opportunity to come up and spend almost every weekend with us.
So between Doctor appointments, company, and everything else I just haven't had much time to keep up over here.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at WWWVW VII. Hopefully we will have all Taney's problems figured out by then and we will be good to go!!!

Hey guys.. my wife and I have been discussing camping at either Smith Mountain lake or Summerville lake this year. Now that I happened upon this thread.. I think Summerville may be it!
We would probably tent camp in the Av.. is anyone else tenting? I would also be bring my boat.
Put me on the probably list... will talk to my wife in the morning when she wakes up!

Hey guys.. my wife and I have been discussing camping at either Smith Mountain lake or Summerville lake this year. Now that I happened upon this thread.. I think Summerville may be it!
We would probably tent camp in the Av.. is anyone else tenting? I would also be bring my boat.
Put me on the probably list... will talk to my wife in the morning when she wakes up!
Awesome...02 Z71 (Brian) is tenting...you guys could share a sight. Touch base with him.
Welcome aboard... (Notice the boat reference...

Another BigBlock will finally be at a GTG with BBB. They will have so much to talk about.

Cool.. I spoke with Beth this morning and we will be attending. I noticed that cabins have a place to tie up a boat.. not sure about campsites? Is anyone renting a cabin.. so I can tie up?

I think there is a dock available. I will call them next week and find out if there are any sites in our area or cabins available so that more people can reserve....
Glad to see there is going to be 992 cubic inches at this GTG...

I am making Mrs. WVAV's Hot Dawg Sauce today...
The hardest part is not taking a spoon to it while it's cooking. I'm thinking some Italian bread and a spoonful of this stuff...
Mmmmmmmmm!

I just returned from my trip to West Virginia. I did not get a chance to actually check out the campground
We did cruise down to Summersville on our motorcycles from where we were staying in Cass, WV but as soon as we got to Summersville, the sky opened up. Since we were on the motorcycles we opted to head back to Cass rather than get completely soaked while checking out the campground.
I am so looking forward to this trip.
The town of Summersville wasn't as big as I thought it would be. We ate at a Burger King and also noticed a Pizza Hut.
Now we only need about another 15 people to sign up so that we can install BBB's train horns.

Ahhh...15 more Avys
By the way, always keep the speed limit or under. Summersville is one if the highest municipalities in the country for writing tickets...

Tom, you and Beth are welcome to share the site with us. We will have 2 rather large tents but I am pretty sure that these sites are big so if you will be camping in the Av, it won't be a problem.

It shows on the map that there is overnight boat mooring over by the beach area. Not sure how far that is from our campsite? Looks like a little hike.. probably bring our bicycles.

There are still sites available around us. Just call and say that you want to be next with John on Site #452.
There are still two cabins available also...

Thanks for the info BBB. Well.. how does it work if we share a site with Brian? Do we split the cost or pay the same rate? Brian's site looks relatively close to yours.. is that correct?

I was in Cass on the 3rd We rode up to Whittaker Station. Summersville actually has alot of stuff. There are like 10 fast food places and also Applebees, Bob Evans, Chinease Buffet, Mexican, and a couple fancy places. There is also many outlet stores. Walmart, radioshack, AUTOZONE
, and alot of other stuff. It's The largest town in Nicholas County, with the most things to do. However Richwood is a very nice quaint little town. It would be good for a laid back country like setting cruise.

We actually stopped in Richwood on our way to Summersville for gas on the 4th. I rode the Cass railroad on Memorial Day weekend to the top of the mountain.

Sorry to hear you won't be there, you'll be missed. But good luck with your surgery.
But it just makes sense... how many opportunities to meet have we missed so far? And how few times have we actually met? I figure we're batting around .05! Especially when you consider that our fall trip to NC is off.
(We were going to be in the area for a national specialty show for Pugs, but our Pug is sold, and Sue has decided to not continue with Pugs.)

Yeah, I know, I'm sad too. She was a wonderful dog, and is doing very well in the show ring. While there was nothing wrong with her, in fact she's an exceptional Pug, the Pug personality and temperament is just not what we were looking for. Sue has been researching the Havanese breed, and they appear to be just the type of dog she was searching for. We have a new puppy, and are also borrowing one of the older dogs from the breeder and showing her. That one already has her Canadian championship, and after two weekends she is most of the way to winning an American championship, at which point she will go home to the breeder. When the puppy gets older, and wins her American championship, we will temporarily send her back to the breeder who will show her for a Canadian championship.
Here's Katie, the puppy: (who will be camping with us)
She's looking a little scruffy, as she had just come in from romping around the wet backyard, and running through the weeds and underbrush. That evening she had a bath and got brushed out, and looked like a little powder puff fluff ball. It's too bad I didn't wait a little longer to take the pictures.

Yes, that's the plan as of now!
I think Taney's son, DIL, Ashton, and 1 or 2 granddaughter's are gonna try to be there for at least part of the weekend.
Does thats twist your arm any on getting you and Jim to the attending list?
I'm sure he would love to see you two again. It's hard to believe it's been a year since the 5 of us were at Nationals.
Once again sorry I have gotten behind in posting. I know it's time to start getting this gtg rolling.
So who is gonna be next to join the attending list???

Ummmmm, that would be us.
Yes, me and Toots and our two furry kids will be joining the fun and festivities.
I called and reserved site 453.
We'll arrive Friday and head home Sunday.
We will be tent camping.
We have not been camping yet with our new dog, so we did a "test camp" in our back yard Friday night and he did just fine.

I will be good to see you guys again.
Who's gonna be next to sign up

Thanks for the info BBB. Well.. how does it work if we share a site with Brian? Do we split the cost or pay the same rate? Brian's site looks relatively close to yours.. is that correct?
Hi.. I see we are listed as sharing the site with Brian.. Do I still need to call to reserve?
BTW.. We would like to stay Thursday though Monday.

Hi MD2500AV,
If you would like to share a site with Brian I think you will just need to get in touch with him and work out the details.... but if you would rather have your own site you will need to make reservations. That's your decision... either way will be fine with us!
We're just looking forward to seeing you there.

Tom, you and Beth are welcome to share the site with us. We can simply split the cost. If that is the case let me know and I will call and extend my reservation through Monday even though we will actually be leaving on Sunday.

Here is a banner that LakeFx put together for me for this GTG. Since the coppermine album is not working, I cannot figure out how to post it in my signature. If anyone can help me out with that, I would appreciate it.

Is it too early to talk about FOOD?
Or at least campfire treats?
We had the traditional S'Mores last year, as well as the new-to-many Mock Coconut Cream Pies. But I just read about a variation of S'Mores that sounds wonderful: instead of a piece of Hershey bar, use a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
That sounds wonderful!
I'll bring the Mock Coconut Cream Pie supplies again. Who's bringing the peanut butter cups?

ShapeShifter, BlueZimm and the BBB's are planning on caravanning down on Thursday Morning, and staying until Monday.
Where would I be able to meet up with you guys?
I called today and think we are going to take site 444 because it's in a shaded area...
BBB.. is it okay if I leave the boat out front of your site?

Our plans are still quite fluid, nothing's been nailed down. We still have some external factors influencing our schedule.
But at this point, my thoughts are to hit the road on Wednesday, and stop for the night around Mt Morris, PA, just off I-79 at the PA/WV border. That means it's an easy shot for me to head a few miles South on Thursday morning, and we can all meet up near the the I-79/I-86 junction in Morgantown.
I suppose BBB and I could meet up earlier, nearer the border, but it's only a 14 minute drive for me from the campground to the Morgantown junction. Much as I enjoy BBB's company, I don't think it makes sense to try to coordinate two meets so close to each other.
It looks like there is a small no-facilities parking area rest stop about 7.5 miles South of the I-79/I-86 junction, right where Old WV-73 parallels the Interstate for a short distance. That seems like it would be an ideal meeting spot. That leaves about 115 miles left to reach Mountain Lake.
How does that sound?
Now we just have to figure out a time...

Melissa and I had discussed food when we were on our natural walk on Kelley's Island. Still trying to figure out what to bring since we are tent camping and don't have the luxury of a refrigerator. I will come up with something.

I know you will come up with something good...

Sounds good to me..
We are thinking of camping all week starting the 15th with our first stop being Deep Creek Lake. Then we were thinking about the Youghiogheny. Has anyone camped around the Youghiogheny and have recommendations? Or maybe Cheat Lake?

Yes! I tent camped at a really nice park there once with some college buddies while we spent the weekend rafting.
Unfortunately, that was 30 years ago, so I haven't the foggiest idea where that was!
The only thing I really remember vividy from that trip was losing my glasses somewhere on the bottom of the Yough, and being unable to drive back. So the only guy with us that could drive a stick shift was the last guy I wanted driving my car (new '79 Mustang Turbo.) I spent the whole ride back to Philadelphia clutching the passenger side dashboard, fearful for my life, and only able to see blurs as things went by!
SS --->
<--- college buddy Mike
Oh yeah, I also remember spending a long time trying to unwrap the raft from "Schoolhouse Rock"

So, how many actual people will be there? The attendance list needs some updating. There are a couple people who have recently posted about reservations (GBT & WISE AV, for example) who are not on the attending list. Also, half the people on the attending list did not indicate how many people there will be. Getting a reasonably good count will help with the meal planning.
So, let's get those people counts updated, please.
And yes, what about the maybes? Are you out there?

I'll start:

It looks like there is a small no-facilities parking area rest stop about 7.5 miles South of the I-79/I-86 junction, right where Old WV-73 parallels the Interstate for a short distance. That seems like it would be an ideal meeting spot. That leaves about 115 miles left to reach Mountain Lake.
How does that sound?
Now we just have to figure out a time...
As for a time: My GPS planning program says it's 115 miles and 1:47:46 from the rest stop to the campground office. That's taking I-79 to US-19 to Airport Rd and the campground.) Call it two hours, just to have a round number. Check-in time at the campground is 2:00. Backtracking from there, if we leave the rest stop around noon, we should get to the campground right around check-in time. It probably lets everyone get there without having to get up at the crack of dawn, yet still gets us to the campground early enough that we can get set up and still have time to relax before dinner.
Is noon too early or too late for anyone?
It also means making that last two hour leg non-stop, is that an issue for anyone?
It probably makes sense to get there a little before noon so we have time to meet & greet before hitting the road. (It always seems to take a little longer to get a group rolling once they've stopped.) I'm going to get there a little earlier (11:30 ish?) so we have a chance to let the dogs stretch their legs.
I don't imagine that everyone (BBB, BlueZimm, MD2500AV) happens to have a CB? I will being the FRS handheld, but the built-in CB is a lot more convenient, and works better.
(Didn't think so, it was worth a try...
)
So, any thoughts from the Thursday caravan bunch? Anybody else going to be in the area and want to join us?

Yes, they are still used. And unlike the 70's, where everyone had them and the airwaves were full of inane chatter, they're actually useful now. You can keep it on, and get useful traffic and road condition reports. It's nice to have some warning of trouble ahead, so you can plan a detour in time, or if it's too late you know what you're up against. But mostly, it's quiet, which suits me just fine.
People ask what's the point anymore, since so many people have cell phones? That's true, cell phones are ideal if you're trying to call emergency road service, or something like that. But if the traffic stops ahead of you, and you want to ask someone up front what's going on and how long it might take (so you can decide if it's worth taking the exit that's a mile up ahead) who are you going to call? Or better yet, when a situation develops, who's going to call you to warn you about it before you get there so that you can get off before the logjam?
Yes, they're still in use, and still have a place.
So I take it we'll be using FRS for that leg. That'll work.

Okay, so we are still coming but it looks like we will only be able to come over for one day. Im probably leaning towards saturday. I only have my learners permit, so mom has to be with me to drive, but she has a very important meeting Friday, and I have to work at a golf tournament Sunday. So I guess I will have to make the best of Saturday. I really wish I could come all 3 days but i just cant. Unless a miracle happens lol.

If you can only come one day, that's the day to be there.
An "official" events schedule has not been posted, but tradition says that it's safe to say that Saturday afternoon will be busy with activities and cruising, and Saturday evening will be the big potluck dinner. So, if you only have a limited number of hours, plan on making it afternoon/evening, rather than morning or just the afternoon.
For the most part, Friday will be people coming in and settling down, and Sunday will be packing up and leaving. If those were the only days one could make it, there would still be plenty of people to meet and trucks to see, but Saturday is the day of choice.

BBB, I forget... besides electric, what other hookups, if any, are at these sites? (Or at least mine, specifically.) Do you know?
Are therre sewer hookups? A couple of the dogs will need baths while we're there, and that's
a lot
easier to do if you're not worried about running out of water or filling up tanks.

I keep telling you it's not that big! Only two A/C's. But I don't want to have to shut one off when I want to run the water heater, microwave, etc. And if Sue does give the dogs a bath, I certainly don't want to shut one off for a minimum of an hour while the hair dryer is running as the little fluff balls are brushed out. Come on, what do you think we're doing? Camping and roughing it or something?
I knew about the power and water, but wasn't sure about sewer. The campground information isn't real clear on that.
Quote
The rest of us are on 30A...
Slumming it, eh?
I'm trying to firm up the travel plans and time off schedule. At this point, it looks like we're good to go for the trip down, but we will have to trim a day off of the return trip and leave on Sunday. Some of us have to work, after all.
While leaving on Wednesday and meeting on Thursday will work, the stop I planned in Mt Morris by the PA/WV border will not. I just talked to them, and they have a power plant being built nearby, and they are completely full with workers and have no available sites. Good for them, bad for us.
So, our second choice is the Washington KOA, right by the junction of I-70 and I-79. I guess that means I can meet up with some of the party a little farther North. BBB, do you have a suggestion where? It looks like there is another parking area on I-79 South, two miles past exit 33 (which is where I would be getting back on after leaving the campground.) Looks like it's about 45 minutes to the rest stop in WV for the meet with MD2500AV, so that meas we could meet around 11:00 ish?
Seems like a reasonable meeting place, but maybe you have a better idea?

I am thinking that we meet right off Rt 19. There is a lot of parking there.
That place you are mentioning is a place where "men that don't like women" go for meetings... yeap, I said it. Don't want to stop there. Not going into details.

Hey, life is rough all over. I often have to get out and put wooden blocks under the jacks before I get back in and push that button. Otherwise the jacks will just push themselves right into the soft ground. Talk about roughing it!

Well, all righty then! You go ahead and pick a spot. It's obviously too dangerous for me to pick a spot.
I don't see a lot of parking from the satellite pics, but I'll trust your judgement. Just keep in mind, I can't back up with the Av hooked on back, so I need a little room to turn around (or I need a couple minutes to unhook and hook up again.) A large cul-de-sac works for a U turn, a three point turn on a road or small parking lot doesn't work. Give me at least 80 feet and I should be able to squeeze it around, 100 feet is more than enough (no, I don't need 40 acres to turn this rig around!)

OK, plans are now finalized, and the travel day reservations have been made. Turns out this trip will be 861 miles round trip, and an estimated 13 hours 47 minutes of rolling time -- not counting any stops for food, fuel, rest, or relief.
Last year's WV trip was 860 miles round trip. Somehow, I thought this year was going to be farther. OK, it is farther, but I thought the difference was going to be a whole lot more than 1 mile! Interesting...

Really? It doesn't look much like me. I didn't realize I was so long and skinny. At least the twisted part is about right.
Actually, that won't quite be my path, as I'll be South of there on Thursday morning. Looks like it's about a 15 minute backtrack to get there.
Any suggestions as to the better route?
Red: From the campground, go South to the junction of 19 & 40, go East on 40 for 1/2 mile, get on I-79 at exit 33, and off at exit 19
Green: From the campground, go South to the junction of 19 & 40, go West on 19 for 3.5 miles of city driving to reach the mall
Blue: From the campground, go North to Lakeview, follow that NW along I-79, get on I-79 at exit 20, and off at exit 19
What's the best shot? I don't like the second option and dealing with stop and go traffic.
Or is there somewhere South of exit 33 to meet?

I hadn't thought of it. I figured if I got hungry, Sue could just get up and me a sandwich along the way.
Got any suggestions?

PS: Is there anyone else around here? The conversation seems to be getting one-sided. It's getting so quiet I'm beginning to think there's only a few of us here...

You want we should try and fling some out the window at you as you pass?
And... ummm... by "any suggestions" I kind of meant what/where were you thinking about lunch, not what kind of sandwiches...

No suggestions from us... we are not familiar with that area at all.
If nothing develops.. we will just have a nice brunch before we meet up with you.
