So. I couldnt take pictures because I didnt have a camera but... My son came home from school yesterday and said DAD!!!!!! One of my friends got and 02 EXT for $6000. So I think cool im gonna go look at it. So I did today and it was terrible. The paint on the hood was missing in 2 square foot patches in 3 places, Sad the clear coat on the roof was gone, it was rusted badly along the bottom fo both rear fender wells and the paint was missing and completely surface rusted behind the rear wheels there it throws road debris.  Sad I thought this was  in AWFUL shape for an 02 with 108k. My 02 avy has 122k on it and its in great shape. I feel sorry for this poor truck  apperently the previous owners didnt care about it  Beating  Beating I mean $6000 is a good deal for an EXT but goodness it is just sad Sad

Oh yeah I know  No pictures

for $6000 I think I could deal with having to pay for a paint job..
Logged

I'm guessing you mean that the ball mount is stuck inside the receiver?
Your description is rather lacking.
If my guess is right, soak the receiver tube from both ends with something like PB Blaster or other penetrating lube, and hammer at the ball mount SIDEWAYS a bit, not foreward and aft, break the grip of the rust.

But you have to question - if they didn't take care of the exterior any better than that, how poorly did they take care of the mechanicals?

okay, so spend another $8-10k for paint, new motor and redoing the interior. You'll have basically a brand new truck for $16k..   Cheesy

there is a member on here that bought 2 totalled Av's and made AWESOME looking trucks out of them.

The paint on the hood was missing in 2 square foot patches in 3 places, Sad the clear coat on the roof was gone, it was rusted badly along the bottom fo both rear fender wells and the paint was missing and completely surface rusted behind the rear wheels there it throws road debris.

But you have to question - if they didn't take care of the exterior any better than that, how poorly did they take care of the mechanicals?

Having worked in a detail shop many years ago I suspect the owner tried too hard to keep it looking shiney.  Meaning, he probably had it buffed and polished too many times and the polishing compound actually wore through the clear coat.

In comparison, out here in the desert where the sun is good at cooking the paint of the cars my 2002, that I gought in September 2001, still looks good and has no issue with the clear coat wearing thin.  But I only polished the sides once, very lightly after taking it off road (when it was all of 1 day old) and had the tall sage brush autograph the sides a little bit.  I have waxed it occasionally, mostly just used the detailer spray and wipe stuff after giving it a bath.

I suspect it was polished too many times and rubbed the clear coat off the poor thing.

As for the rust?  gravel banging off the panels behind the wheels and a supply of road salt or salt from the surf will eat through that thin sheet metal in a hurry.   Cry
