Thanks

I may be wrong but i think you have to change the head Unit. Search factory amp bypass and do the modified harness, and get a new headunit.

Gotta be an easier way, the thing has AUX on the controls. I'm thinking RCA jacks hidden somewhere or additional input.

I added a factory tape deck to my stocker

and use a tape adaptor to input the mp3 player. I think you can get a PAC  adaptor also.

The AUX button runs factory cd changers or tape deck, you have to add them to use them. do a  search for the pin out it's in the tec section

New headunit may be a little costly but its worth EVERY PENNY!! Especially when you bypass the factory amp. Ask all 02 owners that did the factory amp bypass about the diffrence in sound quality. It sounds so much better. Im trying to get my dad to do his so i can hook up my ipod to his truck when i drive his.

I'm sure, but my Z-71 has 225,000 miles on it and I don't really want to put money into the sound. So I'm just trying to add the IPOD.

the cheapest way is to buy a radio transmitter. one style plugs into a power port and you just plug in the Ipod and select a radio station.  $30  usually works well, some times interference happens I use them in rental cars all the time

on the 02 you have to to have a slave unit 'cd changer' 'tape deck' for the radio to use the inputs.

goto a junk yard and get a slave tape deck, and the 9 pin wire harness out of a 99-2002 gm truck

wire it in and jamb a tape in it. wire the out puts to a plug to use your ipod . stuff it behind the dash. then push AUX on radio and you'll hear music....

thats the highlights, if thats for you I'll be more helpfull.

welcome to the club!

Thanks Alaska. If I decide to replace it, what units would you recommend to replace the factory radio, keeping in mind I want to keep it cheep and simple?

Alpine, Pioneer, Sony. I had a sony radio with bluetooth when i had my jeep, so when i got my av i took out the factory radio, and put in the sony. I wish the lights on the radio were red to match the truck.

Are you sure?

They list the iPAC-OEM 'for gm 2002 avalanche' and needed cable 'CHEVROLET Avalanche 2002 Location: Headunit AB-GM9' with no slave units or xm/sat  Off star dont count it no longer works and can be unpluged

I see the 99 and earler radios dont work

I added a factory tape deck to my stocker

and use a tape adaptor to input the mp3 player. I think you can get a PAC  adaptor also.

The AUX button runs factory cd changers or tape deck, you have to add them to use them. do a  search for the pin out it's in the tec section

exactly.... I have one for my XMP3

For mine, I put in a new Kenwood eXcelon head unit with the USB port out the back on a cable.  I cut out one of the small square blank spots beneath the OnStar controls and mounted the USB port.  Now I have a nice little plug for my iPod that looks pretty stock.  That coupled with the amp by-pass instructions I found on this website gave me a great sound.  Now if my speakers would just get delivered already!   Roll Eyes

you CAN get away with not gettin a new headunit
it is kinda pricy but new headunits are definantly worth it but if ya dont wanna get one and like that stock look, you can go to your nearest audio dealer and get a loud converter which will let ya hook up your ipod, subs or any extra speakers ya wanna, it plugs directly into your stock headunit and uses all the same wires but it has jacks for your extras ya wanna add.
