What made it all happen--The Original Concept

Today was not a very good day and with a heavy heart...My AV is gone  Sigh Let me explain.

Today I was driving in Lithia Springs  (up in the ALT area for soccer) and I had to make evasive movements that keep me from nailing the back of a small car at 45mph.

This guy cut in front of me to gain access to I-20 entrance ramp and he could not pull all the way in so his butt was still in my lane.  I quickly jerked the wheel to the left to avoid hitting him thus pushing him into the other cars he wedged himself in between.  At the same time I'm pulling hard to the left, I check the side mirror and saw another car coming fast on my butt so I punched it....well being the AV is tuned, she dropped into 1st and shifted super hard into 2nd spinning the tires when it engaged.

When this happened, I heard a loud bang and knew what happened (not the first time).......the transmission blew  banghead  hurl  The noise was crazy and the AV’s instrument panel light up like a Christmas tree.  I had just enough momentum to get me to a parking lot and out of the way off the other crazy Atlanta drivers.  Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper and yes, I did have a few tears because I knew the outcome was not going to be good.  This was the last straw.  135,560 mile and I’ve had just about enough tying to get this AV to my goal…just not going to happen at this point in my life.

I will not be fixing the AV because I cannot continue to dump $$$ into it and I and will never get the AV to the...it just doesn't matter.  She's gone.  I now have a 2007 Toyota Tundra TRD that will never see a mod nor every hold a candle to what I once had.  This is just something I’m not willing to venture into….

I cannot type anymore...just too hard.  I've attached a few pix so you can see the events I when though.  Tomorrow I'm de-modding a lot of stuff off the AV.  If anyone is in the Smyrna area and would like to help…call me on the cell 229-588-0220

I plan on taking off the Strobes, NOS and LEDs….everything thing else will have to stay because I have to head back to Valdosta later that afternoon….

Loggie I am so sorry. I know how much joy that truck has brought you and I hope you reconsider the transmission repair.  Maybe a chance to mod it into something better than it was. A new vehicle may not have to mean the end of your Avalanche. I still remember when you and I were both coming up with our own unique approach to adding some bass to our systems. I always liked yours. You were one of the first to show that owning an Av was more than owning a truck, it's a life statement.

Sorry to be reading this.
Sad that a truck which once represented the United States on the autobahns and narrow village streets of Europe met it's fate on an Atlanta freeway but I do understand your enough is enough sentiments.

Loggie... You know it comes from deep within my heart when I say I am sorry for your lose. I woke up this morning, and we are doing my going away GTG so we have a lot of people here. Reading this post just breaks my heart.  dissappointed I just feel sick. I have some blood sweat and tears into that truck myself. Also the greatest memory of racing against the clock to get it wires so we could get into line to tour through Savannah. I am a little sad this morning. But the love is there Loggie. Take care. I'll break my rule and work on a Toyota for you only! Maybe just a little lighting mod would be cool!

That's a sad story Loggie! Thumbs down
I saw your beast when you were over here in Amsterdam some years ago.
You put a lot of effort in your car, so everybody agrees the story had to have another ending.
I understand from your answer that you have other priorities now, which make you have decided not to invest another grand in your white beauty. Seems life is what happens while you are making other plans.....

I'm sorry for your loss! take care.

I haven't been here very long, but it has been long enough to know how we all feel towards ours, and other's Avalanches. Everyone puts alot of time and money into their trucks and to make the decision that you have made must have been the hardest one of your life.

I'm sure that everyone here is deeply saddened by your news and feels the pain your going through. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope the you remain a large part of this family that you have become.

Ouch. That really bites Loggie. I know you are feeling let down right now but hopefully you will remember all of the goods times that you have had with your Av and will reconsider keeping her and fixing her back up after the emotions yesterday's events subside.

I any case, I hope that you are planning on sticking around here @ CAFCNA. You have been a tremendous help to myself and countless others. Your experiences with your truck will help others in the future no matter what you final decision is.

Please tell me this is a bad dream...or at least the part of letting her go is...

Ok, your tranny took a dump...the fluid on the ground pic is real...so is the flat bed...

But from there the story changes to having the Av towed to a shop where you're gonna have a
4L60E to a 4L80E swap done...and the Toyota is a rental...

please?

Dude You'll Love the Tundra!  Thumbs up! It has way more power than the av. I run my dads every now and then. It can HAUL too. We pull Twice the load we can with the avy. Throw a Voilant air intake on the Tundra.

I would of did the same thing. Slammed the gas and got out of the way! You may of lost the life of your avalanche but nobody lost their life because you didnt get out of the way! if the car that bought plowed into you hit you and, had small kids in the back could of got seriously hurt. So you did the right thing.  Thumbs up!

Hey Rob,

I'm so sorry to hear about your AV. It is unbelievable that the first guy I met of this club is no longer driving an Avalanche Sad

But the most important thing is: nobody was hurt.

Have fun with the Tundra but please stay in this club and forum.

Greetings from Germany!

wow, Im so sorry to hear this! Thinking back on past GTGs and "stop overs"... there are quite a few Av's that have graced my driveway that are no longer with us... (members too).... I can think of 5 or 6 just off the top of my head  I need a hug so sad.... and I do understand. Good luck lovin the Tundra anywhere close to how much you loved your Av... its just not the same though is it? I am sure with my tranny issues that one day I *might* feel the same way...but today...three trannys later and $5K+ out of my pocket on repairs/new tranny... Id do it all over again tomorrow to keep this truck on the road love or at the very least buy another one or a new one.

Sorry about your tranny.... but I would have dumped the performance mods... not the Avalanche.

Your Av was still a great truck to have and enjoy ... No real needs for speed records in a 5600 lb truck... Huh

Rob,
terribly sorry to hear about your AVE. I'm glad nobody was hurt. I understand that all things have limits. When it becomes cheaper to purchase a newer vehicle than too continue the expensive repairs to keep our babies on the road especially in the harsh times we are in, the choice is pretty black and white. Your decision will most likely hurt for a bit, but life will continue on. You will grow to love your new truck.

Rob,

Sorry for your loss.  I have checked out your link to the pics of the mods many times.  You had one of the sweetest AVs on here.  Also, remember seeing the pics of it across the pond, on narrow streets at scenic locations.  And how devastated you were when it got damaged being shipped back to the States.  I wish you would reconsider.  I was hoping to see it at the Nationals.

I know you do, I just have no personal experience with his stuff.  I know what Carl puts in them, and how they perform.  Although I'll build the trans for my project, I'll be using the same goodies he does.  If it comes down to it and I decide I'm too lazy to build it, it'll come from him.

I know where your coming from having AV problems and trading. Now is a good time to find great deals on whatever vehicle you like. I drive an 08 F150 King Ranch now and have had a few joke with me about driving a Ford, but As I tell them..... It was once said that the Avalanche brought us all togather, but the family that keeps us coming back. I for one say that It doesnt matter what you drive as long as your still my AV brother.

Loggie,
Sorry to hear about the unfortuante chain of events.

I sent you an email with some items that  I wouldn't mind adding to my truck if you have them and want to see them living the good life in Colorado. Cool!

I hate to hear this, but respect your decision. It was always one of my favs, too, and I always had and continue to have the utmost respect for you and all the mod work you did. You put your heart and soul into that truck, I saw it with my own eyes. Hangin' out with you at g2gs and watching you work is one of my all time great memories. Don't be a stranger, RS, you're a huge part of this family here-no matter what you're driving- and don't you ever forget it.

I'm guessing you mean that the ball mount is stuck inside the receiver?
Your description is rather lacking.
If my guess is right, soak the receiver tube from both ends with something like PB Blaster or other penetrating lube, and hammer at the ball mount SIDEWAYS a bit, not foreward and aft, break the grip of the rust.

Hi Rob,

Just wondering what the latest is.  Did you keep the Tundra or get an Av?

I remember how awesome it was at STI a couple years back when you won the awards.  You still have those to go along with awesome memories.
