Every summer in Jasper, Indiana there is a big German festival.  It starts on Thursday evening and goes through Saturday night, with a Parade and Fireworks on Sunday.  It's called the Jasper Straussenfest. <-- link thingy.

Anyway, there's a TON of stuff that happens that weekend: Beer Garden, talent shows, beer garden, car show, beer garden, 5K Run/Walk...and did I mention the beer garden?? Wink  Anyway, I got to thinking that it would be really cool to show off some AV's in the Parade on Sunday.  I think it starts at noon and takes about an hour and a half or so to go through - depending on where we would be in line.  It would be really cool to have some AV's with Strobes, TFM's, Train Horns, etc. showing off the AV fan club.  I have a hide-a-bed couch in the basement and by then may have two.  Also, there are some camping areas not far from here (Patoka is about a 30 minute drive)...and there is a Hampton Inn, Jasper Inn, Sleep Inn, etc...I could look for other camping/hotel ideas if needed.

I just wanted to see if there would be any interest in maybe getting on the Parade list and having some AV's in the Parade...so, is there any interest?  The fest is July 30-Aug 2nd...with the parade on the 2nd.  If we have enough interested I could start planning something out...even if it's just for the Parade, we could do the Parade and then head to my house for a BBQ - I have a big parking lot in back, so lots of room...

Any interest?  If so lets talk about if you want to do Saturday and Sunday - or just the Parade on Sunday...

If I get some interested members, I'll make it an official GTG.

I'm thinking about just making it the Sunday Parade for the GTG and if some want to come early (Saturday) then they are welcome to...I'd like to get a couple of AV's with some different stuff to 'show off'...train horns, teak running boards, strobes, flag mounts, etc. Wink

If I get one interested party I'll change the first post and the title...

If I remember correctly, it was hot...but I also think, and I could be wrong here but I don't think I am...I also think that all Avalanches have AIR CONDITIONING!  So its not like we'd be out in the hot sun in the parade...now for the BBQ afterwards, we don't have to do that - we could go eat at a local establishment, just not the german place - they are closed on Sunday's.  Even if we BBQ afterwards, I'd have some shade or we can eat in the house - I've got a decent size dining room and living room...as long as we don't have more than 10-15 people, we should be okay. I'm going to make a call this week to see how many AV's they'd let us have in the parade...

I'll change this to a GTG as soon as I get a bit more information on the parade...Make sure your AC is working!

I'm also going to check with the local Chevy dealer and see if he'll pay for some pens, pencils, or something that he could put his logo and our CAFCNA logo on as a 'donation' to give away along the parade route...something we can toss out to the kids, adults, etc.

Finally got some answers...

4-5 vehicles is the max they've ever had from one group...they've never had the question about how many can we have so they didn't know how to answer it. Cheesy

Local dealer is strapped this year - though he is still a dealer...so if we do this and want to 'toss' anything out, we'd probably need to just do candy.

So - anyone interested?  I've asked for the deadline to sign up - haven't gotten that response yet.

Okay, sounds like this year isn't going to work...I'll make plans to do this next year and start recruiting earlier.

Even though we're not going to do the Parade Sunday, anyone wishing to come down for the fest and maybe joining us in the Beir Garten is welcome.  There's the Autolauft (Scavenger Hunt in vehicles), car show, lots of entertainment and food...starts Thursday night and runs through the Parade Sunday - Didit, you could park your camper behind my place! Tell ya what, I think Fri were going to Bloomington and have dinner with MainOne , and Maverick who will be in town with the the Scouts.  Sat we'll come down to Jasper for a few hours without Molly though, that way we can get out and about a bit.   What time do the festivities in town begin, I'm sure there are enough street vendors for eats but if not Applebees looks good, lol.

You're welcome to ride with me in my AV!  I'm going to drive in the parade for our youth group...

Sorry about that...I didn't get a response about throwing out candy, so I didn't think there was interest for this year...too bad though!  The forecast is for 81 degrees.  Would be perfect for the parade!

I'm already working on the dealership for next year...the weekend next year is August 5-8 with the parade on the 8th.

Didit
Didit, here's the Schedule for Saturday.  Dad, Staci and I are all working in the German Club booths from 10:00 am - 1:00pm EDT.  Dad will be in the Brat booth, and Staci and I are in the Dessert booth.  There's a TON going on that day.  Beer Garden doesn't open until 6:00 though.  We have a 5K run/walk in the morning that I 'DJ' and then straight to the booths.  After that I'm done working the fest...

Anyway, depending on when you come down perhaps Lisa could meet you at my place and walk over.  My house is only 2 blocks from the beer garden, which is the 'south' end of the fest...the booths we are working are at the entrance to the BG so about 3 blocks from the house.  There are train rides, the mill is supposed to be open by then, and the Budwieser Clydesdales will be at the 'old barn' for people to come see and get photos of.

I'm hoping we're in front of them in the parade...I'd like to get to the end of the parade and watch them...though I'll get to see them tomorrow night as they lead the 'tapping of the keg' procession to the beer garden.

Anyway...if anyone wants to come down, you're welcome!  Welcome! PM me and I can give you my cell number and meet up with you!!  Thumbs up!
