curious myself...I might check today if i get time.   Not sure when I am gonna do the av

*UPDATE*   Just checked the internet.   Advanced auto parts sells these plugs for $2.79 each.  Their part number is 3186

Oreilly's had to pick mine up from their warehouse. It was only a small delay (a couple of hours), but I thought that it was kind of strange that those aren't in stock everywhere. They fit a ton of different cars and trucks.

I think the plugs are about 6 bucks each. I did mine last year and 37k miles ago. It is about time to do them again. I do recommend changing the plugs if the idle is a little rough after doing the Seafoam treatment.

As for the seafoam, I DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING YOUR AV WITH IT IN YOUR OIL. It is a solvent, it is going to destroy the viscosity of your oil in a very very short time. More than a couple minutes is enough. Your oil is already old and worn out from driving 3000+ miles on it. You add a solvent to that and you can see the damage you are causing if you drive on it. At idle your engine is not working or doing much of anything. When you are driving you are stopping and going revving up and dropping down. You are working that old oil and the seafoam into all your metal moving parts. I do not recommend it, your bearings do not need the extra damage. So please do yourself a favor and do not drive with seafoam in your oil.

I noticed that.   Did the honda one more time and then changed the oil.   The oil was very thin.    Had quite the smoke sho yesterday.   Its still smoking a lil bit so I guess I take it for another drive.   Planning on doing the av on monday.

I just ordered new NGK TR55GP plugs, a new intermediate shaft and rear shocks. So next week I am going to be seafoaming everything. I am also gonna try and change the rear axle fluid while I have the Av jacked up. And of course do a complete Lube oil and filter.

Spoke with a tech at Seafoam today because I was curious about the application for the oil crank case.

He told me that you add 1 1/2 ounces per quart of oil capacity to the oil crank case.  Then you drive a minimum of 30 to 100 mile before changing the oil.  Since I do not do my own oil changes, I wanted to make sure that it was o.k. to drive with the seafoam in the crank case.  I mention to him that the were conflicting theories on the club on how to to this.

He said that seafoam DOES NOT thin the oil.  It is a slimy lubricant and that the more you drive the truck with this in the crank case the better it works.  I did put it in the oil crank case this morning the drove about 45 miles then went and had the oil change done.  The truck ran fine.

I also did the seafoam in the air intake.  When I did this I let the air intake suck up the seafoam the shut the engine off for about 5-10 minutes.  This is what the tech reccommended and also the directions on the can.  Did not smoke as much as I thought it would but that may be a good thing.

I will now add a can of seafoam at my next gas up.

ok...searched for the pcv and wasnt able to find it.   Went to advance auto to get an oil filter, and look up a pcv.   That explains why I was unable to find it.   Got home and looked again and sure enough it was staring me in the face.   Sent in the seafoam, and was a piece of chocolate cake.   She drank almost all of the can before I realized it.   I got kind of a smoke show.   The honda put out more.   It def smoothed out the idle.  I sed to be able to feel the idle.  Not anymore.  Glad I used it.   Gonna use it more often now.   Thanks again shane for reviving the seafoam threads.

Your welcome. I am doing mine tomorrow, along with a tune up, new ISS and rear shocks. If the weather holds I plan on detailing her one more time before we are in snow. Gotta get as much wax as I can while I can.

yeah, get that protective wax on before it snows....

I parked the av at the bottom of the driveway (sloped) while I washed the honda.   The mother in law jumped in the av to pick up the boy from school.   It smoked a lot.  Freaked her out.   Kinda surprised me too.

Just wanted to add to this post.    I bought an 04 avy with 86,000 miles and it just did not the power or the throttle response of other trucks with the 5.3 liter i had driven before.  I recently ran 1/3 of a can of seafoam through the pcv system, and mixed the rest with 12 gallons of gas.  Within 20 miles the diffenence in power and throttle responce was tremendous.  I highly recommend doing this.

Power brake booster vacuum line.  Pull it off the drum on the firewall and pour it into the rubber hose with the engine running.

I don't think the 04's have that, at least mine doesn't. My brakes are hydaulic. I used the PCV vale hose to suck up the Seafoam.

04s have hydaboost, so no brake booster.   On the back of the driverside valvecover is a hose.   Just pull the hose off.   The engine vacuum is plenty to suck it out of the can, kinda like how you sip a hot coffee.  Easy to do...too easy

I have heard of the Seafoam before but was afraid to use it.  I have a 2007 Avalanche with 24000 miles,  Would it be worth putting the seafoam in the vaccum with such low mileage, or just go with the gas tank.

Are you having any issues with the way the truck is running? I would think that with 24K miles it is still running like new. If that's the case I would just add some to the fuel tank.

Unless you've been driving Ms Daisy I'd just add it to the tank to keep the injectors clean!

X2 on just doing the gas tank with Seafoam. If you took your throttle body apart, I doubt you'd see any build up whatsoever at only 24k. Wouldn't be worth the risk of fouling any of the plugs with the intake cleaning with Seafoam until about 60-75k in my opinion.

I jumped on the Seafoam bandwagon today. O'Reilys had it on sale for $6.50 a can.  I did just as Shane said. Let her slurp it up from the brake booster hose until emptied. She didn't care for it much toward the end and died. I let it sit 5 minutes and cranked it up. It looked like one of those mosquito spraying machines you see down in Mississippi.  Shocked I could see it being sucked in & blowing in the cab defrosters. Time to roll down the windows. Let it idle for 5 mins. and hit the road for 10. Finished my lunch & went back to work.
After work I used the remote starter and watched the tail pipes, no smoke came out, I was surprised.  The drive home was great. Will take a couple more days to see if I can really tell a difference.

Don't forget to put a can in the gas tank. And then change your oil real soon. all the crap from the valves gets in the oil when you clean it like you did. Before you drain the oil dump about 4 ounces in the oil filler tube and run the engine at IDLE for about 1 minute or so, not much longer. This cleans all the oiling ports so the oil flows better. This keeps the engine lubricated.

Ran great this morning! Very responsive and smooth. But you need to leave it in the oil pan longer. Here is a direct quote from Seafoam:
Quote
1.
As a pre service cleaner for old oil residue, sticky rings or valve train noise, pour 1 ½ ounces of Sea Foam Motor Treatment into the engine oil crankcase for EACH quart of oil capacity, including filter. Drive a MINIMUM of 30 minutes/miles, MAXIMUM 100 miles, and then do your oil change service – Lube, Oil & Filter (LOF). This begins the process of safely/slowly re liquefying the old oil residue so contaminants may flow and be filtered. This also makes your old oil dirtier, quickly, so a LOF service is necessary when the oil gets dirty. Great for Turbocharged & Supercharged applications where oils deteriorate so quickly due to heat, and leave those residues that NEED CLEANING.

Thanks I have actually never read that. I have always done word of mouth. I have always been concerned with putting something in my oil that is made to thin it out. Then running it thru my engine for a long period of time. I know we use to clean engines from the junk yard with kerosene. You would pour a quart of kerosene into the oil and run the engine for about 1 minute. This does the same thing. It cleans all the deposits out of the engine. But if you run it too long it will seize the engine. So I have always played it safe and never drove with Seafoam in my oil.
