Hey again.

Ok so i got my factory nav head unit (from ebay) GM #25846421.  In my 2007 Z71 avy w/ bose (no dvd in back)

got it all installed, installed my gps antenna, installed my VSS/Voice harness.. and i got it reprogrammed at a dealer.

Radio works, XM works, Watching DVD's and listening to CD's work.  But when i put in a Map disc, it tells me "The disc inserted is not a MAP DVD"... but it is.

now if you are not familiar w/ this radio, it is one w/ a cd/dvd slit up top for music and movies... and then when you opt to insert a MAP DVD the face flips down and there is another slit for the MAP DVD.  (i only explain because my sister has an H2 and it only has the 1 slit and you have to swap if you want nav).

So i used 3 different GM Map dvd's.... i used the one from my sister's H2 which from my research on the gmmapdisc.com should work in a 2007 avalanche.  Its the 4.1 version, i believe 2006 or 2007 maps.  The second DVD i tried was just a burned copy of that 4.1 map dvd.  BOTH of these work in the H2 nav system.  The last one i tried (i didnt expect to work) was a map disc that after looking up the part number belongs to a different set of vehicles like the trailblazer and stuff.

So has anyone else gotten this message ?

I have 2 ideas..
1. someone has put in an updated map dvd and it wont read older ones (is this possible?)
2.  the nav dvd laser is jacked up.. which may be why it was sold so cheap on ebay...

if anyone has any ideas.. i'd love to hear em!

Hmm, my original disc says Version 2.0. My updated disc for 2008 says 4.0c. Does the H2 have the same type of nav system as the 2007+ Avys or is it the previous generation like to 2006 and below Avys?

If the H2 nav looks like this one...

... then it WON'T work.

... then it SHOULD/WILL work.

well this makes me feel much better because hers looks like the first one.  Mine looks like the second one which makes sense why it would work.  Now to find the right disc

got it all working good.  Found a 2007 disc from a buddy at work.  made a copy of it and works great.  the only thing that i've had some issues with (i dont really care) is it doesn't give me voice directions.. it says "proceed to the highlighted route to begin guidance"... but it never starts, and when i get close to destination "you have arrived at your destination".  but everything else seems to work fine.  i'm going to try to find the 2009 map disc from somewhere,  maybe that'll do it.  either way, i got a hell of a deal, like 400 for total install.  i'm happy =)

Can you watch a DVD while you drive (for passenger of course) or does it cut out the video out of park?

it cuts out cause of the safety feature.  but there are 2 things you can do to get around it (from what i've read).  1.  you can buy the "lockpick kit" from ebay.  bout $100 - $150ish
2.  i read that all you have to do if you want to mod it yourself is ground out the wire that goes to the parking break.

can anyone verify?
