Thanks for helping in advance!

I have read nearly all the posts about the noises.  Looks like most of them were pre 2007.  Just wondering if there were some new thoughts about the 2009 or 08 models.  I have a 2009 LTZ.  The first noise is the common "rattle" appears to come from the drivers side dash.  Pretty faint but clear with silghtly bumpy roads and appears to get more frequent at highway speeds.  Thought about taking it to dealer but dont want to waste my time...seems like they often cant find these problems.  Maybe its the windshield against the dash?  I rather doubt I am savy enough to take the dash apart.  But if it continues I may just try...cause I dont like it  Angry!!!!

The second I swear comes from the midgate window area and is a slight creak creak that happens intermittantly.  I put some felt tape on various areas to no avail.  Seems like maybe some expansion or contraction going on or something.  Is this a common problem as well?

Any ideas?  Should I take it to the dealer or is this a waste of time.  I hate noises like this they drive me crazy!!! banghead

I love my truck, but I would rather enjoy it instead of obsessing over annoying sounds while I am driving.

I have an 07 new body style and I have 1 annoying sound as well. It seems to be coming from the left/ center of the dash, almost like a faint ticking/ hishing type of noise. It disappears when I shut the truck off, not sure if this is similar to your 1st noise. I've had a few friends try track it for me with the engine on, both from the engine compartment side and the interrior. Can't seem to find it! Thumbs down

check the rear locks they rattle against the door.  if they are, put 2-3layers of duct tape behind them, but keep the slivers low so you cannot see the tape. You need to take the locks tabs off to stick the tape to the door.

I also had a noise, (before i dynamated my entire truck) from the midgate area. Thought it was the window rattling. Never examined it closer though.

I just finished a large audio system upgrade, took the whole truck apart. Seats, carpet, doors, etc... I sealed up everything nice and tight, so, so far no noises. yet

DocAv,
What sounds like coming from dash, could be the vinyl strip above the hinge on the hood. I used to get a rattle/vibration from there, until I put a small strip of magnet under the vinyl piece. This would stick to the metal on the hinge and stopped the noise. There are other ideas for fixing this, somewhere on here. You might have to do some searching.

Crazy huh,  well at least we can commiserate together  I need a hug

You would think that they could make a vehicle that didn't make extraneous noise, but I guess they are too darn complicated.  I had them in my acura and have read about people going crazy with dash noises in their honda ridgelines as well.

One just expects things to be perfect when paying so much.

My noises are pretty slight,  I think I found them both.  #1 goes away when I press on the very front of the dash on the drivers side.  Do you think I can shove some insulation under here from the front near the VIN?  I tried to kind of shim it down but that didnt really work.  #2 I think is actually from the sun roof.  I enlisted my excellent hearing 10 year old boy to ride around last night.  He swore it was from the roof.  When I crack the sun roof of put pressure on it with my hand it seems to go away.  I siliconed it up good last night but still creaky.  the noise also changes when I close the sunroof access hatch, so I am pretty sure that is it.  I might try to put some shims in that to make it stop.

I actually crawled under neath my truck last night to take a look, like I actually know what I would be looking for  Tongue

Thanks for all the ideas.  Its amazing what people have found that makes little annoying noise,  I hadnt heard of the plastic on the hood idea.

Good luck with finding the problem.  I had an annoying interior noise.  It was coming from the passenger seat.  It went away though.  My girlfriend and I broke up about 2 1/2 years ago.

Now that you have a good idea where it's coming from, I would take it to the dealer and have them fix it.  Especially the sun roof part.  The rattle will probably get worse over time and maybe leak.  At least if you take it in now there will be a maintenance record of it and if the problem persists you could still have a shot of getting it fixed even if the regular warranty expires.

my 2008 has more rattles than almost any vehicle I have owned. With what this thing cost, I would have hoped for a better fit and finish. I have a 1997 Lexus SUV (LX-450) with 35" mud terrains and 3" lift, and it rides better and has less rattles and squeaks. in fact, it is still whisper quite inside. no rattles, no squawks, no nothing. how can a 12 year old trail rig be more quite and have better fit and finish than a 50k 1 year old Avalanche.

DocAv,

My 07 had the rattle in the driver side dash problem.  Your description of pressing on the front of dash (near window) and it goes away is the same.

I took it to the dealer and they fixed it.  Something about a black box in the upper dash had worked loose.  They reattached it and I have had no problems since.

I took it to the dealer and they put some extra padding up front and I think mostly fixed the issue.  I still can hear occasional small rattle but with what the dealer did and my padding adjacent to the windshield,  I may just leave it alone until the scheduled service.  Its a pain to take a day out of my schedule to take care of that.  Oh here is a good one.  While they were fixing it, they backed into another car and busted off my nice avalanche hitch cover!!! banghead  and put a couple of tiny scratches in the bumper.  Real tiny and most buffed out.  They fixed the hitch cover, and I made them give me a interior and exterior wash and had them give me some free touch up paint.  It was raining so I didnt want them to paint it and I just wanted to go home at that point.  So you would think they know how to back up those things, but maybe thats my punishment for being so annoyed by little things

OH!  I think I finally figured out what the back squeeking was!   Those black plastic flanges/handles on the top of the removable rear window squeeked like crazy with just a little pressure from my fingers.  So I stuffed a bunch of tissues inbetween them and the roof and have not had that squeek in the last few days!  So I may see if a little silicone or a tiny rubber gasket wedged into place may do the trick.

So maybe that will help somebody...I havnt heard anybody with that problem/solution yet.
