My '01 2500HD and my '04 2500 Avy both behave the same, and the Dodge Cummins was similar as well
Seriously guys, hydroboost behaves differently.
"Hydroboost behaves differently" -
- Evidently on American vehicles it does...but that doesnt mean its good.
Hydroboost is simply a sealed compressed nitrogen container in conjunction with a pressurized hydraulic cylinder.
Having a brake pedal literally kick back up at you is not a great thing, its indicates a flaw in the design or function..imagine if power steering kicked back at you for a split second when you turned suddenly - NOT a good thing - power steering uses hydraulic pressure to assist in the direction of the steering shaft, similar to how power brakes are supposed to assist in the pressing of the brake pedal. Its pretty straight forward simple concept.
My 98 Lexus GS300 has Hydroboost, as well as my RX300 - Niether do this. Newer Toyotas and Hondas also use the compressed nitrogen cylinder with hydraulic....none of them do this.
Im not here to Bash GM, or Ford or Dodge...but, Seriously - If American auto mfgrs want to really shine again - then they need to make superior designs and products....the whole "Thats just the way it is" doesnt cut it for people who want high quality....if the Japanese can do it, then we can do it too...no excuses!

When you smack the pedal quickly, it takes a moment for the pump to build the pressure back up, that's the small "kick" you feel. I noticed on my high-mileage Dodge (290k) that flushing the PS fluid made things a bit better...
Surprising that the Lexus has hydroboost.. I wasn't aware of that.. I wonder if it was a packaging reason or a lack of vacuum reason?

Lexus has been using the hydraulic power brake assist system since 1998. There is no lack of vacum, hydraulic systems are just better, and more consistent in the assist they provide. Ive never felt any type of kick back before in any other vehicle, but reading the forums, it does appear to be somewhat common.
Mine has stopped since the other day. It got bad on Monday, it kicked back pretty hard even while parked, now its gone.
As for a kick back in the brakes "being normal" - I hold the design & engineering of systems to a higher standard than that...the hydraulic assist for brakes works similar to power steering....imaging what would happen if your steering wheel kicked back at you...
Its a desgin/manufacturing flaw. Its not critical, but its annoying...now, if that kick back prevents the brakes from engaging for a fraction of a second, it could be the difference between barely taping someones bumper, and smakcing them hard. thats a little bigger of a problem.
