Here in the Netherlands, they told me jump starting a car can be dangerous for the onboard computer and electronics of the Avalanche.

If a battery is dead, and you jump start it with a power booster or jump starter, they told me when you remove the power booster when the car has started up, the dead battery can't take the high current coming from the alternator resulting in peak current to the Avalanche computer and other electronics.
Is this true?

Not sure, I have had to jump mine the last two Mondays mornings. And each time I do the AC blows hot untill I turn off the engine and wait or disconect the positive side cable. Then all is well.

Never heard of that, I don't think it's true.

The stock alt output is controlled so it does not put out too much power.

I think there may be a grain of truth in this. If you jump start a vehicle with a seriously dead/bad/defective battery I could see where the electronics would not take kindly to possibly wildly fluctuating instantaneous voltages when you removed the stable source.

I actually got to think this through from the flip side a couple of weeks ago. Had to deal with a car that had been left sitting for ten months....battery of course was way dead; relatively new but completely flat which can be deadly. Had Av and jumper cables but chose not to take the chance. Bought a cheap battery charger and let dead thingy charge up overnight.

Nope it is not true, if the battery has a dead cell it may cause the Alt to go full charge. This is because a dead cell may drain the electrical system then it may damage something..

I had to have my 05 1500 Z71 jump started once (over a year ago) and there was no damage to any electrical components.  It has remote positive and negative points that should be used.  The positive is in a red box marked BATTERY+ located above and behind the power steering pump.  The negative is a lug on the alternator support and is marked GND-.  The owner's manual says to shut off the radio, lights and any other electrical loads before jumping.  I know most of us have probably jump started many vehicles in the past, and I only mention the remote connections on the AV because it is the first vehicle I have owned that has them.
