Can't find the PF59 filter at my normal shops.  Did AC Delco switch to a different filter?  I saw the PF61 and grabbed it, haven't changed the oil yet was planning tomorrow.  Is this the correct filter to use?

Th3 61 filter fits the Caddillac North Star Engine and also the 3.7 inline 5 cylinder Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon.  It's a Duraguard filter.

Technically it is not the right filter for your 5.3L.

You need to go to Walmart or some other parts store and buy the right filter.

I had a interchange number for a filter that had the same thread and a larger capacity, but it is out in the shop and I am in the house.

I think a Pennzoil PZ 28 will work.

The manual calls for either a PF 58 or 59

The 61 has the anti drain back (bypass) valve set deeper into the filter.  That is about the only difference.  But it does make a difference - because the PF 58 did not have this valve and The PF 61 is ok  to  use on high mileage engines.

So what exactly did you try to say here, MCM? You contradicted yourself in a very confusing manner.

OP: I've seen references that the PF61 can be used to replace the PF59. I have not used it myself as I run Purolator Pure1 or similar premium filters. Whatever filter you use, just make sure it has an anti-drainback valve on it.
