So this morning I start off to work and my CEL came on.  Not sure why.  I know it's hard to give suggestions to what it could be, but to help you out I have 88000 miles on my 2004 Avy, it's due to have the oil change, and I do know my fan clutch needs to be replaced.  Could that be the problem?  No other issues that I have noticed are wrong with my truck though.  All levels are fine with fluids and all.

Thanks

Marques

Get the code.  Any other guesses have no meaning.

AFAIK, you can go to Autozone or Pep Boys and have them read your codes. They should do it for free.

Or if you really feel frisky, this has been a terrific investment for me: http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9125-PocketScan-Code-Reader/dp/B0007LEG2K

It'll even clear the codes once you get the problem solved. Quick and easy. I recently put on a new water pump and didn't get my MAF sensor plugged in all the way while I was buttoning everything up (see Busch Light), and the next day threw a code. Plugged it in and immediately pointed me to the MAF. Very cool device. Saves me curse words and part throwing.

Yep the CP9125 is a great little code reader I keep one in the AV all the time. Thumbs up!

I had the exact same thing happen to my 03 z71 avalanche with 64,000 miles. Mine said on the screen change engine oil. I havv never had that happen before. I found it odd for the light to come on. I'm going to take it to auto. Zone tonight to figure out the problem.
