What year AV?
Look here at this pic
, between 4 and 5 on the exhaust manifold. If you had one it would be there, or it may be on the end of an extention tube.

Doubt it is EGR valve... as they rarely need replacing
since all they are is a check valve allowing flow from crankcase into intake one way...
was describing PCV Brain CRAMP Sorry
Get error code from check engine light.
report code here or search it on interent for advice on what to check.
check engine light does not mean change a part...
It means something is wrong in a certain system... and one needs to trouble shoot properly...
good luck

I think your thinking of a PCV that vents the crankcase to the intake.
EGR means Exhaust Gas Recurculation. Its takes exhaust gases and routes it to the intake manifold. Quite possibly it could fail or stick because of the carbon deposits that can stick to the valve needle. I have an 02 and it has no egr valve on it. I've only ever seen them on the 4.8L engine.

AutoZone or one of the other stores will be able to clear it for you, or it will clear itself after so many times you run the AV.

I got the P0442 code today! Did a search and looked at the threads. You can go from sublime to ridiculous (at the dealer) really quickly so this is what I can contribute from
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442
Code P0442:
Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
What??:
This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
Causes:
A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
* Other small leak in EVAP system
* Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible Solutions:
With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
(Note: To clear the codes see Autozone or buy a cheap code reader (invaluable) and clear them yourself.)
I have done step 1!
