How do I love my Avalanche? Let me count the ways

Hey, folks!  I'm here.  My gorgeous Av is at Tim O'Neill getting a tire changed out.  After 30,000 plus miles, what first appeared to be a drivetrain issue turned out to be a tire failure.  I couldn't believe anything was wrong with it mechanically.  This truck is bulletproof.  It feels as solid today as when I bought it in October of '02 and, while I wouldn't dream of taking it off road, it does get thrashed during the daily commute.

I've asked before, where do I get amber DRLs?  I'll have to have the dealer install them.  I'm still waiting for my better half to install the '95 Cadillac tri-horn set up.  I retrofit those to all my vehicles where applicable, e. g., not good on the Z06.  What a beautiful blast they produce.  He hid the horns so I can't take them to the dealer.  Dealer installation, Cad dealer, runs to a couple of hundred dollars not counting the horns.  Suspect a Chevy dealer would charge similar.

Anyway, we're south of Council Bluffs back in the hills about a mile.   I frequently ask myself, "Is this heaven?  No, this is Iowa."

Just bought my first Avalanche 2 weeks ago, and I think I have spent more time in it than in my house!  It's an black 06 with all the bells and whistles!  I found the club on here and had to join!  My wife thinks I am a little crazy, but I think she will come around!  I look forward to being on here and maybe meeting some of you!

I'm in Cedar Rapids. Bought my 02 cladded Av in March of 03 brand new. Haven't stopped moddin' since. I've got an Indiglo Blue Av with chrome mags on in the summer months. The easiest way to spot me is that my Av is level. I dropped the back with Escalade springs. Also you might hear the 2100 watt stereo... from across town! My picturetrail.com account is probably down if you're lookin' for pictures. One of these days I'll get on the myspace bandwagon.

Hey Guys. My first post on this board. I just bought a 2007 Sunburst Orange Avalanche. Some people thought that I was a little crazy going with that color. Most people see it in person and love it. It's hard not to say that I have an orange truck without cringing myself Wink
The last truck I had was a 1999 Dakota Blue Sport. I traded that baby in after owning it for about 8 years. After test driving on of the Avalanches, it was love at first sight. And even my wife loved it (she always hated the ride of the Dakota).
I'm from just outside of Cedar Rapids.

Hi All.   I'm new to the AV Fan Club as of today, 9-9-07.   I'm not new to owning an AV though.   Had I known that this club existed I would have joined when I bought my first AV.

I bought my first AV in December 2003; it was a MY2004 AV.   Even though it didn't have all of the options, it still had a lot more on it than what I had considered requirements {e. g. , no sunroof, a front bench seat (too bad you can't get this in leather), the Z-71 package (too bad this isn't offered in the MY2007 Victory Red paint color and so far not in the MY2008 Victory Red paint color), etc. } at that time.   Comparison-wise, it even had more options on it than other trucks that were also on my 'short list' for purchasing during that time period.   Am I glad that I bought my 2004 AV and not any of the other trucks that were on my 'short list'.

Does anyone know what one of the major signs is that you have bought the right thing at the right price at the right time for the right reason?  The novelty, excitement and enjoyment of the item you bought never wears off; even when you are making payments on it.   This is how I know that I had bought the right vehicle for me - I still enjoy my 2004 AV.   I enjoy it best while driving it, but, I enjoy just looking at it too.

Even so, I have traded that one in on a new 2007 AV.   And let me say, this one is even better that my 2004 AV.   It too has everything on it that I wanted, and more.   The only options it doesn't have that I have identified so far are the 6. 0-liter engine (I required the 5. 7-liter), the power running boards, the Navigation System (having this deletes the 6-disc in-dash CD changer that I required), and the factory-installed back-up camera system (the navigation system was required for this).   As far as I know, it pretty much has everything else - and yes, even a power sunroof for those of you who were wondering why I didn't get one on my first AV.   I might write about that one in a future post.

As with my first one, I have added some accessories to it.   Again, I might write about those in a future post as well.     But for time's sake, it has pinstriping, some chrome items, added lighting that includes red-lighted "AVALANCHE" door sills.   I found the lighted door sills at www.  wooddashexperts.  com  Click on the "Chevrolet Dash" link in the left column.   The lighting colors are available in blue, green, red, orange, yellow, pink, white, and purple.   FYI - I am not affiliated in any way with the manufacturer, this company or website.    The way I envision this, we're all here to help each other out.

If you would like to see my 2007 AV, it is located north of Des Moines, IA, on Interstate-35, at Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, IA.    As of now, I pick it up this Saturday, 9-15-07.    It is getting protections and sealants applied to it the first part of this coming week, and the last I knew it was sitting in their Accessories Showroom.   It's exterior color is Victory Red.   It used to be Karl's (the owner's) demo vehicle.

Howdy folks  Wave
I've had my '05 Av for a little while, stumbled on the board looking (via Google) for a digital copy of the owners manual (which I found, thanks). I'm Rob, I call NW Iowa home but I work on wind turbines (GE 1.5 mw) so I bounce all over the U.S. spending a month or two in new places. I'll be looking for GTG's and ambers now as I travel and hope to meet some of you along the way.

I've found some real useful information here and have already put some of it to use so thanks for the great resource and I hope to contribute if/when I can.

Living in an Av.... down by the river Wink

Hey, another fresh AV convert just checking in.  Got mine at Karl's here in Ankeny (just north of Des Moines)... put about 600 miles on it so far, and just love it!  Probably one of the few who's stepping down in power a bit as I traded in an '05 Dodge Cummins (same hp, double the torque), but still am very happy with the move.  Truck handles awesome, rides incredible, has great rear seats for my family, and looks just absolutley incredible!   Thumbs up!  Also am amazed by the features the truck has... amazing the technology in these things these days!

Welcome Ramrod Smiley
I lease the '08 Ram 2500's at each job and try to hang on to them as long as possible but as you pointed out these Av's make the features (and fuel economy) of the Dodge just sad and pathetic. Av's are alot easier to park too! Wink

Thanks Windtech... hey, have you worked on any of the turbines up there in NW Iowa?  Been a few years since I've travelled on HWY 20 between Webster City and Sac City, but even back then saw the large numbers of those things going up.  Cool to see, would love to get closer to them!  Gotta love big machinery like that, and those things are just awesome!

I've worked on several of the new Iowa windfarms, including the brand new one by Pomeroy. One hell of a view from the top and man is it fun playing with all the stuff inside and starting them up. I have some pics of my Dodge next to a nacelle and a blade, I'll have to dig those out and post them. The scale of the machinery is hard to fathom until you see them up close.

I'll check in from Sioux City. I've got an 03 Z71 in Charcoal Grey. I've had it for about a month now. LOVE the truck. It's a pretty good upgrade from the 95 Blazer LT it's replacing. Know anyone in the market for a gently used (only 312k miles) Blazer?
Just added my XM over from the old truck. Still haven't gotten the harness to wire it to the factory radio, but at least the power wires are tucked away nicely.

Hey Stirling... we lived in Sioux City for six years, and moved to Ankeny two years ago... we lived on Pierce Street, just a few blocks past the hospital.  Still get back there off and on as that's where the in-laws are.  Sounds like you got your $'s worth out of the blazer!  Smiley

yeah, 312k will definitely keep a bowtie on the front of my rig. No complaints at all.

:cool:Hey Windtech, I am in a similar career field, I live in Ames and do electrical maintenance and testing for power plants and commercial industry.  Haven't had a chance to hit any of the wind farms yet.  If your background is the electrical side, relays, meters, cables, breakers, transformers, etc and are interested in settling down down a little we are looking for people to help us handle the midwest, mianly IA, NE & MN with a little MO thrown in.  If you are interested get in touch.

Hello all!

I have a Red '02 1500 Z-71 that I bought brand-new a week or two before 9-11......so yeah, I've had my truck awhile, coming up on 8 years young.

Very few mods (well, compared to my other vehicles). K&N FIPK, Superchips tuner, BFG All-Terrains. That's mostly it. I have to replace my brakes (finally!) in the next 2-4 weeks, and looking at a cheap set of eBay drilled/slotted rotors. Even though the stock rims will cover most of the rotors, they'll still look nice and stop even better.

Since I live so close to Omaha (I work there), I said hello to the Nebraska boys as well.......but we all know which side of the river is better!

Oh yeah heh......I stay away from those. Too many people at my work go and lose their whole paychecks there. The best I can say is that they DO support local charitable organizations through the Iowa West Foundation. When I was on the Volunteer Fire Dept (4 years), we got quite a few grants from them for nice equipment.

But hey, a lot of people like 'em.........it's just not for me. I don't wanna become addicted to gambling, I have enough problems as it is!  wail

Hello, Iowanians! I was born and rasied in Waterloo myself, but recently moved to San Diego. Why? look out your window, how much snow is on the ground? Its a lovely 70 here today! I can wash my Ave every day without it freezing. I'm just checking in, and will from time to time. Maybe there will be a GTG scheduled on one of my trips back... Have fun in the snow, I'm going to the beach!
