You have a pretty far drive. So, whats your best route there.

No problemo ... US60 West to Ellsworth / Usery Pass North then right on Bush Hwy ... Then right into Butcher Jones Ridge ...

OK, careful now with mentioning the word 'HOT' around ghostwheel. He is on a continuing quest to find Hotter stuff then he has already tasted. Don't get him started again. We will end up with another cabinet shelf of Hot sauces.

Ha Ha honey.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I'm having issues with my computer.
As far as bringing something, what else is needed, what should I bring?
Where are we planning on meeting for a car-a-van?  or are we just going there directly?

Let me know what's up!

Ok, as far as what is needed, something along the lines of polish sausages, hot dogs, or hamburgers. Or some kind of salad, or a couple salads, such as potato salad, pasta salad, or something along that line.

If no one options for a main dish I will bring that as well.
So no one is under pressure, and you can bring whatever you would like.

As far as the caravan, this will be decided this weekend, or the beginning of next week....

Azcavfandt may have something to add to this, is she does, I am sure she will post.

I'm sorry that I have not responded sooner, We just got another location and the work load has been hectic.  I've also been working out in Sedona.  I didn't think I was ever going to say this, but I will have to miss this one. veryveryangry I have to work that day.  My sundays are tied up for the next couple of weeks until September. I have been unable to access this site for a little while, I was having my computer upgraded and I received it back last night.  Everything runs great, so I will be on here every chance I get.

We will have more on the caravan after this weekend. I am going down there around 10 am this sunday to check it out.  If I got the count correct, 3 av's are in interested in hooking up on the way there. 4 if we hook up with 11h by ellsworth if he's interested also. Ellsworth is about 1 mile past power. It also depends what time everyone wants to leave, incase someone has prior arrangements for that morning.

Greetings All,

New 2003 Z-66 Sunset Orange owner... GTG sounds great, plus a caravan?  Awesome... Unfortunately, reading thru the post and trying to decipher the actual information is a little mind boggling for an IT guy when he gets home from a long day of breaking applications... So in a nut shell?
  • 8/24/03  Noonish at Saquaro Lake?  Butcher Jones camp ground?
  • Caravan starts where and when?
  • Bring what?  Food?  Etc?

Looking forward to meeting other AV owners, slowly falling in love with mine!

Sorry, no pic yet!

Kharless,

Foodwise I think all we are lacking is some kind of salad, potato salad, pasta salad.... something along that line. Possibly even fruit salad. Or anything not listed on post #1 of this thread that you would like.
We are doing this potluck style.

Yes, 8/24/03, butcher jones/ lake saguaro. eating at around noon.

The caravan is TBA, more then likely sunday or monday we will have this info.

I try to keep the first post in the forum as updated as possible with the information.

Looking forward to meeting the new members, and gathering with those I have met previously....
Grey_Av

also, how many people will be coming with you?

Any one planning on bringing any group games?

Horseshoes, etc.... something the group can all do.

Unfortunitly, anything I have is packed in boxes in the garage.....

Anyone have anything they can bring or they are planning on bringing?

I would like to welcome our new members. We look forward to meeting you.

As far as games, we do not have much for outdoor ones.

Are there any kids in the group?

I was thinking of maybe bringing along one of our dogs. He is a golden retriever. But not sure yet.

Hey Grey (and all),
I'm thinking that I'm in (barring the arrival of inlaws)- Sunday works great for me at this point, just don't know what day they are due to show up. Glanced through the posts and didn't see anyone down for bringing sodas. Let me know if that'll work. Looking forward to it!!

Butcher has a beach area where people can swim. I believe it is roped off at a certain point so the boats stay out.

there is a beach right there at the picnic area, and there is a designated swimming area.... a word to the wise.... if you plan on going in the water, brin water shoes or sandles... do not go in the water barefoot....

Heya gang,

There will be two of us.  My Fiancee makes a killer bowtie (seems appropriate) pasta salad, how many should she feed?

Also,  whats the deal on dogs?  Actually bought the AV because of its dog friendly configuration for a 6 month old Great Dane puppy thats growing fast.  Can you have dogs on the beach at butcher jones?  If not, its way too hot for a dog, in my opinion.

I am not sure what the rules are about dogs there...

right now we have around 10 people (guesstimate), fyxtion is bringing enough sausage for 15 people. So as far as how much to make.... probably womewhere in the middle.... we may end up with more people as the week closes in....

We went to the lakes sunday to scout it out.  We were there from around 10:15 to 10:45 am.  It was not very crowded at the butcher jones area. There were about 15 single picnic tables with Charcoal grills. Plus there were two picnic tables with more then one table next to each other.  There was only one family already at a table. The rest were free.

There are a lot of shade trees in the picnic area. There are a few bathrooms around there. I did change my mind about bringing any dogs. There was a sign: "no dogs allowed on the beach".  No glass allowed on the beach either.

There is a big parking area near the pay station that nobody was using. From there there is a walk to the picnic area. There are also parking spaces scattered around the picnic area.

In regards to any watercraft. There was a sign prohibiting launching from the butcher jones area.  Assuming it needs to be done at the main saguaro lake area.

The fees to enter butcher jones can be paid in cash or credit. It is an unmanned station.

Next post to include info on saguaro lake and the caravan.

The fees paid is good for all lake access in that area. The main saguaro lake area was a bit busier at that time. The covered picnic tables would probably fill up faster here. There was not much for shade trees by them. (butcher jones has shade trees but not covered picnic tables.)

We saw 2 av's there that had boats out on the water. We got another small chip in the windshield on this adventure. Grey-av, I think you should move that replacement glass under your name now.  Cheesy

They had a brochure on the main area only. It gives boating info and rules and boat rental prices. There were also plenty of picnic tables free near the salt river bridge area. We checked out these last two areas as a back up. Not to confuse anyone, we will be still having the bbq at the butcher jones site.

see next post for caravan info.

For anyone who is interested in hooking up on the way there. Meet at the S.E corner of Power and Mcdowell. at 10am next sunday. We will depart from there at 10:15 am. The distance from there to butcher jones is approx. 20 miles taking about 25 mins time. Please let us know if you will be meeting up there.

additional note: might want to bring your own lawn chairs also.
