I'm starting this thread to help out all of the members who like me got frustrated with trying to find the correct information and instructions to the Under Hood Full Time DRL mod.

If any of you are like me, if you can't find something with three or four clicks you forget it, but this is one of the coolest mods and its pretty easy. These instructions are compiled from different posts and are only intended for 2002 Avs.

1. To play it safe, disconnect the Black Ground cable from the battery.

2. Standing on the driver's side of the truck, Remove the black curved bracket that connects the fender to the body.

3. Remove the Electrical Center Plastic housing. First the top, then look at the sides of the housing and find the tabs which hold it down. Angle the housing and unhook it from the tabs, and lift it off. This should reveal the naked fuse box which is the contents of the Electrical Center.

4. On the fender side of the fuse box is a locking latch. Push this tab towards the fender and this should unlock the fuse box. Then unhook the tabs at either ends of the side facing the engine. The fuse box is now loose and ready to be turned over.

5. There are different colored sections on the underside of the fuse box; we'll be operating in the green area. It is bolted into the box and it must be unscrewed. Loosen and remove the green connection block. Remove the two blue locking clips on both sides of the green block.

6. On the far right row, there are several wires, locate the double royal blue wire. Remove this wire from its current position and drop it down one (1) hole. Now the right side should have a double green wire at the top, followed by a single red, a single blue, a double purple, then the space just vacated and the newly relocated double blue wires.

7. Relock the green block using the blue locks. Screw in the green block back into the fuse box.

8. Test to see if the mod works. Reattach the Black Ground cable to the battery, and turn the key to the on position. (You don't have to start the truck. The DRLs should come on when the truck is in Park.

9. When everything works as you like it, lock in the fuse box, replace the cover and the top. Reattach the black curved bracket.

10. Sit back and enjoy the sense of accomplishment.

Use these pictures to aid in the modification. The first pic is of steps 1-4. The second pic shows the location of the double blue wires in the green connection block. This picture shows a red wire in the slot where we have placed the blue wires. The red wire is XRover's switch mod. For directions on the DRL on/off Switch, PM XRover.

Thanks to XRover and WesTexAVY!

IceBear - According to my sources this should work on all 2002s, no matter the model.

ygmn - Why don't you moderators tack it to the top of the board. Or maybe Skidd could replace the other Full Time DRL link with this one. There are people in place to prevent a valuable pieces of information like this thread from slipping off in to never never land.

Well we can't just tack every good idea to the top of each board or else the first page on each board would be full of pinned topics.  I have added this thread as a 2002 - under hood specific link in the FAQ page.  I have left the other link in place also as it has a lot of good background information contained in it and also another under steering column method of the same mod.

Thanks for the consolidation of this info... it helps all the members.  thumbs_up

Ok, I followed the instructions and it was a very simple mod.  No problems and it went just like it said it would.
probably took me 15 minutes to do it.
It really made it easy and you could change it back if you desired, with no cutting, splicing, diceing, etc.
Thanks again! Grin

banghead Did the mod a few days ago and worked like a charm. Got in the Av last night and no DRL's at all. Checked fuses, opened block back up and checked wiring, and everything looks hunky dory. Anyone else experienced something similar? BTW the lamps are brand new also.

I haven't the slightest idea if this works on an '03. You shouldn't have to do a search, I don't think the thread is that deep. There are several concerning the FTDRL on an '03.

I simply created this thread after getting really ticked off trying to find the right directions for this mod.

Thanks to all the post on the Full Time DRLs and 4way High Beam mods guys and gals.  This was the first time working on the AV and it help out alot.  I did the Modified Fdrl/nrl mod with the diode and wire clips same for the 4 way and it made the whole mod take about 15 min from start to finish.  I thought a thanks was in order to all of you who contributes to making these mods easier and less time consuming for the few of us without the time or knowledge to figure it out for ourselves or troubleshoot all the bugs.  Plus it is a great way for me and if feel the rest of us to even see if we want this mod or that.  Once again I would like to say thanks.

03 Full Time DRL's and then scroll down to post #226
For the 02 under the hood: (my preference) FTDRLs New Post-underhood Mod ONLY and then scroll down to post #29.
For the 02 under the dash: Full Time DRLs scroll down to post #221 for a link to a members page that has good pics of how to do it.

Here ya go Poppies Baby...I'll give it to ya with pics!

Ygmn..see I told ya we should've made this a sticky thread!  Grin

Is it a must to disconnect the ground / blk cable to the battery when switching the wires for the DRL's? Have gotten the fuse box off and ready to turn over to look at the 'green' box to look at wires.... do I need to disconnect the ground wire before doing anything yet? I don't want to if I don't have to, but I also don't want to shock myself or hurt my AV.     Smiley

Yes Disconnect the Battery GROUND. It is a Must, You could end up in a very bad way leaving it connected.  PM Sands611 and ask him what happened when he did his.

Okay... battery cable off.... one more question...
How do you switch the wires? Do you just pull them out by hand and put in the one below it? Problem is, I can't get it to pull out and I don't want to pull so hard I break something. Once I do get it out, do I just put it in the correct place by hand also, or use a tool?

You have to remove the blue retainer.  Then there is a little tab on the connector itself.  I used a very little screwdriver to get it out.  Then you just push it in the correct hole and it will "snap" in.   This picture will give you an idea where the tab is for the connector.
(the pictures are ment as representations only, not as the actual part you are working on)

I received my green bulbs from euroeffects.com.  I told my two boys not a word to Mom.

I then took my bulbs out to the garage.  Came back in turned on the computer to this site
and ran out to the garage and opened my bulb package making sure all was there.  Ok I then went to the manual on my computer because I don't have mine (dealer is supposed to get 1 for me).  and found out how to change the DRL bulbs.  Went back to garage and changed right side OK.  Left side would not turn easily and I broke part of the white casing around the lip.  This will probably cause water condensation now.  Darn.  anyway I changed out the 4157 white bulbs with my eurodesign 3157 greens.  Then said what the heck I still got 1/2 hour before the wifey gets home so I took off the bar got a little socket to take off the black battery terminal.  Oh shoot feels stripped.  Get the cresent nope it really is stripped.  get the little wrench.  Nope totally stripped get the Lock Jaws  OK no problem.  take off top to fuses.  Unhook left side unhook right sid lift up.  what the ....Run in the house to this thread.  Oh OK take off the green block,  cool.  get all my nut drivers nothing fits.. get all my sockets finally find the right one.  take out the little pretty blue clips.  No Prob.  Run in house to read next iinstructions.  "stick small screwdriver in slot to unhook clip"  Ok spen 10 minutes looking for a itty bitty driver. just cross heads.   Get small needle nose.  It comes out.  hope I never have to use that receptical again.  Lower one space insert.  Put blue things back in green thing.  Put green thing back in bottom of big black thing.  Close big black thing.  jump in AVY turn key on nothing.  Try again, nothing.  Oh yeah dumb a$$ get out get Lock jaws hook up black terminal to battery.  Get in AVY turn key to run beautiful green lights on wall.  So cool. turn off key check watch 5 minutes till wifey gets home from work.  quickly make sure all is tight.  Put on cross bar.  Put away tools.  Close and hide box from eurodesign.  Tell Boys not a word go in house and start the T-bones in the snowy BBQ out back.

And That is my story.  Tonight BACK UP BULBS to GREEN  And Pictures.

This is my first Mod.

Regarding the full time DRL and all 4 on mods, has anyone tried the factory override to turn off lights when in park with parking brake applied to see if it still works?  Owners manual says if in park and you still have the engine running the lights will stay on, but you can press the dome override button 4 times quickly, you'll hear a chime and the the lights will go off.  Maybe it's more than 4, can't remember but I just press it quickly several times until I get the chime and they go off.  Resets when you turn the ignition off and restart, or you can repeat the dome override procedure to turn them back on.  Pretty handy when unloading at boat ramps early in the morning and you don't want to blind the other guys and gals.  I want to do both full time DRL and all 4 on mods but want to know if this nice little feature from the factory still works.  Can someone try it and let us know?  Thanks...

Yes this is possible! The instructions for the 2002 Full Time DRL (FTDRL version #2 w/ diode) are in this thread:

I, along with a few other members have done this and it works very well. You will have the override function that the version #1 of this mod does not have and they are not on key on to key off.

Thanks Chad for the pics and instructions!!!!  It took me like 8 minutes to change the bulbs and a mere 26 minutes to make the drls full time.  I had a hard time getting those wires out though and then, I wondered what holds them in in the next hole?  I forgot to pull the green block off, I just pulled and plugged.  Do you think it will last?  Or was I suppose to attach something on the other side of the green block?  So far I think it looks really cool and can't wait for it to get dark here.  Thanks again, Breedlove

When you move the connector for the DRL do they turn off when the other lights are turned off using the headlight switch being moved to the O position?

Has anyone had any issues with the DRLs staying on and the marker lights coming on? When headlights are on, the hazard indicators come on, no flashing and my air horns fire.

This really screwed up. Any ideas? I think I have a relay blown. I'm going to wire back to stock and see what happens.

I've had no problems.

Are you sure you used the right directions?

Yep, I think it's something else. I switched it back tonight and the problem continued. Somehow it is effecting my airhorns, but not my stock horns. The relay for firing the airhorns is wired into the stock wire running from the horn button. Even completely disconnected, the lights are still messed up. I'm thinking it is either the DRL, Headlight, or horn relay or maybe the flasher. I've tried 3 relays on the air horns and maybe all 3 are bad. I'm going to call the delaer tomorrow and see if they've seen anything like this. It's the only aftermarket thing still hooked up. It maybe the flasher gone bad. Now, with the FTDRLs disconnected (wired stock) and the signal light switch is on, the signal light (in the direction of the switch) flashes fast and the opposite flashes just as fast, but dimmer.  banghead

I'm at a loss. I didn't think the DRL mod would have caused it, but I wanted to rule it out and switch it back before going to the dealer.

Be careful with this mod, Just did it yesterday. Worked like a charm untill I noticed my factory radio would not work. I guess the theft deterrent system kicked in when I disconnected the battery. Just a FYI check your owners manual for instructions on the radio lock code. This free mod cost me 30$ and a trip to my dealer. It really is a great mod but be aware. Thanks to all who make this site what it is.

Finally got this done today! Something I was gonna do LONG ago. I was also gonna do the "all 4 on mod" until I realized that my only soldering iron is in my toolbox at work. Sad At least I know how to do it, and once I get some more time.........

I know what ya mean Sparza, I just got my wife talked into a brushguard, after I convinced her about the change over to leather interior(which I didn't win off of Ebay BTW.) With our first child on the way, I'll still be gettin' some before spring though, factory or aftermarket.(leather that is) It'll be easier to clean up spills. At least, that how I sold her on it!!

;DDid the full time DRL mod over the weekend. This one is great. (full step-by-step instructions on post #1 of this thread)No cutting, drilling, splicing or welding. Just move one wire. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.

One step I would add is before disconnecting the battery wire, make sure you have programmed the security code in the radio.(owners manual, page 3-18)  (and remember what it is) Otherwise it is a trip to the dealer to get the radion working again. banghead banghead banghead

Hey, I'm a new poster but an old reader of the forums and want to do this mod. But on the first post, I can see all the pictures except the last one. I assume it shows the newly relocated wires. I was wondering if someone could repost the last pic. Thanks. This site is awesome.

Thanks a lot for getting the picture guys. I just got back from a 45 day TDY so I've got the whole week off next week so I plan on doing as many cheap easy mods as possible. I'm planning on doing the amber DLs, Four brake light, and full time DRLs. I just put on a Carriage works billet grill and APC billet antenna that I got for Christmas. Thanks again.

Nope completely different. It should be the same as the 03/04 though...

The process is basically the same, but you'll be switching different wires around. There's no difference between wbh and cladded.

So I made it as far as step 5 now Iam stuck.

5. There are different colored sections on the underside of the fuse box; we'll be operating in the green area. It is bolted into the box and it must be unscrewed. Loosen and remove the green connection block. Remove the two blue locking clips on both sides of the green block.

When I unscrew the bolt all the way(which doesent come out)from the green area, it still seems to be held in their somehow. Do you have to use force to get the green section out? Should the bolt be screwing out completley? Please help!

You can take it out completely, but normally the green block should be coming out on its own. I've never had this problem.

After 1 hr of tring everything, I gave up. It seems I can get the bolt loose but somehow the last part of the bolt is still fastened to the nut therefore not allowing me to remove the panel. I tried pusing the bolt from inside the nut but it didnt help. I was hopeing there was something simple I missed. Not sure how to do this mod now dissappointed

I don't know what could be different.  I did my 02 with out any problems.  The screw will not come all the way out but the block should pull out with out much trouble.  Try unscrewing the screw as you pull the block out to insure that it is completely loose.  Good luck

Hey Leather and Mikro Brew!!

I just did this again on an 02 in the motel parking lot yesterday morning. After you get the 7mm bolt loose (it will not come all the way out), you have to pull and wiggle and pull and wiggle until the green connector block comes out. The reason it is tight is that you are "unconnecting" about 20 connectors at the same time. Same goes when you put it back together.....push it in a little, then start the bolt, then push on all 4 corners while your tightening to make sure you "seat" all those connectors again.

Don't give up guys!! It's worth it!!

Leather and Mikro

I had the same problem with my 2005.  Unscrewed the 7mm bolt and could not pull the green block out.  I am real hesitant to apply alot of force because if something snaps I'm really f'd.  I finally gave up on that method and used another which entails bridging (sorry for the terminology, I am an electrical idiot) two wires on the white block on the far right using a diode and two snap connectors.  Just did this yesterday and so far works great.

I'm at work right now and don't have the exact post that explains this method but you can probably find it with a search.  I remember the post I used contains pictures of this.

Finally,   the pull and wiggle and pull and wiggle did the trick !!!!   I was under the impression the 7mm (used a 9/32 gotta get the metric tools now) came all the way out, but nope, just loosens and it looks like a couple of hook barbs holding the green block in as well.  pull and wiggle pull and wiggle. and yes! its well worth it!!!!

So after work I tried again using WesTexAVY suggestion. I used needlenose pliers on both sides and pulled gently and it popped right out. Thanks for all ur help. It looks soooo good.

WesTexAVY,

I followed your thread it was exactly as you described. Very easy to follow.
Done in 30 min. Everything works great, No problems other than accidently skinning one of the wires (not enough to hurt anything) when i was trying to get it out of the green block.

Thanks,
Rcola

WesTexAVY,

I followed your thread it was exactly as you described. Very easy to follow.
Done in 30 min. Everything works great, No problems other than accidently skinning one of the wires (not enough to hurt anything) when i was trying to get it out of the green block.

Thanks,
Rcola

Sorry WesTexAv I meant chad2fw.   Embarrassed

I know this thread is a little old, but was wondering something.
I did a mod like this on my Suburban and if I ran the lights to long the circuit breaker would blow and I would have to wait for it to cool before the lights would come on.
I found this out while on a hunting trip with a couple of trucks following me.
I had no idea what had happened until I thought about it for a little while. I want to do this to my 02 AV, has this happened to anyone?

Nope, haven't had any problems here. Only thing I've done since posting this is change my bulbs to SilverStars.

no problems here either.  I drive to NW Alabama or FL panhandle from Augusta Ga at least trice a month...fill up and do the whole trip without stopping.  The trip th FL is around 7 hours, to AL is a lil less.

Mine is an 02 and I've had the mod since April, I think.

While this is a great mod, there is one drawback. If you put brighter fogs in and run them all the time along with the DRL's , you can melt the plastic housing. Ask Ladylanche.

I've got 55 watt Fogs and I'm doing just fine... I run my fogs whenever my Lows are on.

Why would you be running your fogs all the time when your Amber DRLs are Full-time anyway?

I'm just resurrecting old posts tonite. I have a question and please be gentle I'm new to modding.  I tried this and I seem to have a problem with disconnecting my negative battery cable.  It appears to be stripped and I'm wondering if someone can tell me the exact size socket size or something else I can try to get it disconnected.

I've tried the 8MM and that seems to fit, but I think since it's stripped it doesn't have anything to actually grip onto.  Any ideas on something else I can try?

vice-grips?  if anyone is wanting this mod done, I'll assist anyone in SE GA needing it.  02 only, unless you want me to practice on your Av.

vice-grips?

Tried them too and it still didn't wanna come off, the vice-grips just slide off even if I tightened them.  I'll try again tomorrow cause I am determined to get this done. Modding is so addicting.

jayteez, please elaborate if you know of a quicker way.  Remember I'm pretty new and this thread is old so it's a chance I just haven't read about this new/quicker way.

I think you're referring to the adding 1 ground wire, correct?  Well if you could explain it a little more.  Where do I add the ground wire and where does it connect to?

Yeah it's an 02 , unfortunatly I won't be able to make the lunch, it would take have my lunch hour just to get there, then the other have to get back to work.

...as far as the ground wire drop your referring to the method in the first post of this thread right?  Yeah I'm having trouble getting my negative battery cable off so I'm going to work on that again tomorrow.  I was asking jayteez about his alternative method.

Thanks for offering to help me out I wish I could make the lunch.

Hey guys, check out this pict of my negative battery terminal and see if you can offer some more possible advice on how to get this bad boy off.  I've been working on it for the last 10 minutes with a brand new Vice Grip and still no luck.

Is there some trick I need to know.  My Blazer's battery terminal nut came off with a quick socket this one is giving me a hell of a time. Thanks!

I've tried pretty much everything and nothing seems to be working.  When I bring my truck into Carmax Monday or Tuesday I'm going to see if they can get it off for me and maybe even replace it if possible.

I'm really bummed cause I wanted to get this working and I also wanted to test my tubes for my underbody so I could start working on all my neon.

Oh well!  banghead

Try putting the vise-grips on the larger part of the bolt instead of the hex part.

Then there is a little tab on the connector itself.  I used a very little screwdriver to get it out.  Then you just push it in the correct hole and it will "snap" in.

Man, I missed this and didn't notice the tab and ripped the wires out of the little metal clip.

Now I have to go to the parts store and see what I can get to fix it. I was so close and get this done. Bummer!

Well I checked 3 stores and I found something that was close, but I don't think it would work.  Has anyone had to replace one of these?  If so where did you get a replacement?

Also, since I had to restrip the blue wires they are a little short now.  Does anyone know what guage wire it is so I can add a little bit to it...once I find a replacement piece?

Thanks!

Well my saga still continues, the piece I bought yesterday didn't work.  So I guess unless I can actually find the exact piece, I might have to make this one work.

I'm still trying to figure out what guage wire that is so I can extend it. So if anyone knows, please chime in. It's the wire that I had to move down 1 slot.

Thanks!

Maybe pry back the tabs that are holding in the old wire and insert new.
Or:
You could try soldering a new peice on.

I think it is about 18gauge wire. I would just try to solder that peice back on first. I would put on a replacement battery terminal though.

NFNY

It seems to not wanna pry open because they don't appear to be tabs.  It's almost like a tunnel and once the wires were inserted and they are clamped, that is it.
I think it is about 18gauge wire. I would just try to solder that peice back on first. I would put on a replacement battery terminal though.

It looked like 18 guage and that is what I'm going to try.  Not sure what I would solder because the only thing that happened was the wire came out of this piece.

Wish me luck cause I'm going to see what I can do right now.  Thanks!

No soldering, what I did was I stuck the new stripped wires into the little clip then folded the tabs down and wrapped some electrical tape around it to make sure they stay there. It's hard to explain but you get the jist of it.

It's funny since I already tried it once and knew how it all came apart this mod actually took no more than 15-20 minutes start to finish.

Check your bulbs first. Is it turning on at all? I would check the same wire that the other guy had a problem with.Let us know.

Yeah I was driving around with no ambers for awhile since the double blue wires were not connected.  Just do what OA said and check the bulbs first since it's the quickest, than check the wire since those are really the only two things you've touched right?

Huh??, what the heck...  It stopped raining, so, this AM got the tools out and took it apart.   Looked like it was ok, but pulled it apart and put it back together.  Checked, working fine.   warpped it up with everything together. turned switch on and nothing....  dark so head lights were on. Well dang.................

Took  it apart and when i lifted the fuse block they came on. (Yeah, I know, shoulda disconnected the battrey) something is loose but dang if i can figure it.

They are working as of now. On the road next week,  see what happens during this trip..

Thanks for all the help..

Whew,

What a problem this turned out to be,  running along and the drls are on, can see them on the vehicle ahead of me, pass a car and next time they are off.  then on, then off.

pulled it apart and 2nd, and 3rd, time, nothing at all wrong.  NOTHING.  dang it.

so took it apart one more time looking closely at parts as I go..  wouldnt you know the receiver, that you pull out and move, is oversize,  grab a awl and move the metal to tighten the connection point and ,VOILA, no more problems at all.  now they are on all the time and I am Happy..

thanks for all the help guys,  this is the greatest site I have ever visited.

ok so its rainy outside and i just decided to do this mod.  finally! but i have already come across one problem.  i dont know how to disconnect my negative battery lead.  is that the wire directly connected to the negative bolt on the battery?  if so, do you have to unbolt it off? cause its on tight.  also if so, why is it still on in the other pictures?  and lastly, is it neccessary or just a precaution?  can i still do th mod as long as im careful with the battery connected? thanks.

ps - sorry for the stupid questions, im just a newb Embarrassed

Just completed my newest mods! They look great. I did the amber DRL's and also the FTDRL's while i was at it. Pretty simple took 30 min but thats only because i had the same problem as AVZ71 and that i couldnt get the double blue wires out. The wires even with the safety clips in are held in by a one way plastic clip inside the hole i just got a very small crewdriver(from a glasses repair kit) banghead and used that to pull the tab back and pull the wire out. Piece of cake haha. Any suggestion what my next cheap mod should be?

Heres what it looks like...

were you trying to do this, or did it just happen?

Well, I put the ignition in the run position, the position before starting the engine, then pushed the dome light button 4x.  I guess that did it, but I didn't hear a confirmation that it took.

When I tested it didn't go on when I released the brake, which is what I want.  Then I shut off the engine then tried again, but it looks like the light when on when I started the engine and released the parking brake.

Edit - I just read the manual in that last step, it's supposed to do that.  How do I make it permanant?

Dude, I tried this mod...no worky!!.    Then I tapped the fuse and duh I feel so stupid.  Guess I kncoked the fuse loose.  THanks for the research!  Took me 15 min.   NOw just have to get the ambers installed.

Yup, those are SilverStar turnsignal bulbs as well as DRLs, LED amber turnsignals, and the blueish highs are actually XENON bulbs that I tried out on my Bimmer and liked them enough to put on the AV.

Then I also replaced my tow hooks with the PIAA 2100XT driving lights, which also have a blueish tint.

OKay,

Did the mod...worked fine.......did a bulb check, threw the hazards on...poof no more DRL.

Reach in the truck, flick on the headlights manually...poof DRL back.

Turn headlights off...no DRLs.

What the heck happened?!?!?!?

did you connect the green wire? ouch! pricey mistake

Just kidding I would put everything back to the way it was and verify that it works and then follow the instructions word for word. They are pretty easy and correct.

This is an easy mod for an 02. WHich mods did you do FT DRL's and all on hi?

Okay, I got a chance this AM to put it all back the way it was from day 1......DRL work as GM intended.

Re did the mod, double checked everything....the only way I can get the DRL to come on is if I manually turn on the headlamps.

Do I have the one truck that rolled off the line in 02' that won't play nice with others?

Okay,

I put it all back to stock in the fusebox, and decided to do the mod inside the truck.

Spliced into the green black wire, put it to ground, and it works like a charm Cheesy

I'm good to go now!

Thanks for the help!

ya know i tried to do the reverse of this last year and my DRLs would not work at all anyone know why this would be.  I needed to change them back for the effen safety inspection.  I got the inspection done but saw this thread go through the new posts and said hey......They also said i could not have my third brake light covered and I also had to replace my Green drls with clear.

ok help me out here. I have one DRL that likes to not go on every-now and then. Now im pretty sure its a bad connection in the light in the light housing because if i give it a good tap it will go on. I have tried flipping around the bulbs, cleaning up the metal connectors, and also putting dielectric grease. And it always is either on or off when i start the truck. any ideas to fix it?

I just did this mod tonight.  Easy! Took me maybe 15 minutes to have it working and that included running back and forth to the computer so not to mess something up.

This mod is so easy a FORD owner could do it! :kidding:

Did that one after the All 4 on High mod that was #3 for the night.  Although I did run into a problem after I did everything.  The issue I am having is somehow I managed to kill my battery.  Most likely due to my own fault.  But I did play with the elect.  system tonight so i began to question some of the mods I did.  Has any one else had the battery die after you did the FTDRL (in the Powerbox under the hood), All-4-on-High where you ground out the yellow wire on the lowbeam with a jumper wire? Those are the only 2 elect.  mods I did tonight.  I don't know if its dieing now that I grounded the lowbeam.  Is that possable?

cb, shouldnt hurt battery at all, only uses power when you have the lights on...

unless you stood gazing in joy after completion... but the mod itself isn't doingit
maybe you grounded another wire on accident, maybe got a short?Huh

i grounded mine inside the box itself, bad angle but i got a pic for ya, real clean look, cant see at all , even when fuses are exposed, used like 8in of wire or so

gl with tha battery

Yea I figured out my problem.      When I was working on the truck I had the Drivers door open and had the interior lights on the whole time I was working on the truck.      Just drained the battery.      A quick charge and everything is good once again.      Here is a pic I got tonight of the FTDRL in Ambers.

I'm having some issues with my drls... I noticed yesterday at a light that my drls were not on, then later in the trip they were back on.  After stopping and getting back in the truck they were off again, and then once again they turned on after driving for a while.  I have been paying attention now and it seems like they are only on about 50% of the time.  What connection should I be checking to see what could be loose?  I was thinking a loose bulb or housing, but I didn't think that would affect both lights?  Help me!

I did ithe under dash FTDRL mod sometime ago- that was easy! I didn't have to remove anything and was done in 5-6 minutes including getting the tools and connectors out! And have had no problems at all since it was done

I have noticed though that I don't turn on the fog lights as much as I used to before I had FTDRLS. I always use them when the weather is crappy (which can be often in Seattle and our mountains) and a lot of other times, but before I would almost always turn them on because I liked the look. Now it looks cool with or without the fogs on so I don't bother to turn them on nearly as much.

Does anyone else do this or am I just getting lazy?

I bought a kit from an on line Ebay store called mrtailight. The kit is for the 99-02 Silverado w/ fog lamps. I wrote a message to the seller that it was for an Avalanche. Shipping and all it was 38.00.

Followed their instructions, it took about 30 minutes. Thumbs up!

The FTDRL mod is for the daytime running lights (next to the fog lights), not the actual headlights. This will turn the DRLs on full time.

Here's a link for the All 4 on high for the 2002>>>>>  http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,57331.0/all.html

On this picture, when you move the double blue wire, do you move it down to where the red wire is (which is blank factory) or over to the blank spot to the left of it.

Also after doing this are the drls on ALL THE TIME? Only when the engine is running or also just ignition switch on? Whether in park or just in drive? With both low beams and hi beams (and neither of course)?

Thanks!

Well I got it done today! I tired last night but i couldn't get it to work, did the exact same thing today and it worked perfect! I like this mod a lot! Gotta love FREE!

To answer my own question, you move the double blue wires down into the spot occupied by the red wire in the above picture (this spot is blank on a stock truck).

Just did mine this weekend.  Only took about 15 minutes including changing the bulbs to ambers.  Thanks for the great write-up.
