I beat all sorts of Fords with it   All Except the Lightning obviously    Motor Trend puts the 1/4 mile time of the Titan at 16.0  My Av was 16.3 Stock.  I hope my Mods Will pull me past him.  however  Torque Mangement Will spoil the fun If I cant get the jump off the line!

Precisely.

Sorry, but I don't buy a truck like this to be fastest from stoplight to stoplight Wink

For that, I'd buy an SRT-10 if I had to have the fastest truck around.  For stoplight-stoplight or on-track performance, I'll choose the appropriate vehicle for that.

I think the titan time is around 14's or 15's in the 1/4. Maybe high 13's. I can't remember exactly, but I know its alot better than 16.
Oh, yea, if you want to beat the lightning and everything else, get the Dodge Ram SRT-10.

Well, if the Titan is built like my wifes Armada, I think you would loose. FOr such a heavy vehicle, hers hauls butt, and is very comfortable. I absolutely love driving her Armada, that engine is awesome.

My Friend is waiting til he hits 500 miles on his Titan before the race goes down  and its likely to be at Francies Lewis Blvd here in Queens,  Its the longest stretch of road with no chance of a car coming out and creaming us both! Plus Plenty of room to Stop!!  I have 20" rims on the truck now, Im wondering If I would be faster if I put my Stock tires on, Considering there would be less rolling resistance. Plus I never leave the 20's on the truck for the winter, So Its about that time to change them!

well guess what, while the AV is in the shop getting the t-case fixed... my rental is a crew cab Titan 4x4.....

All I can say is WOW.....

I really wish that my AV had the pull this thing does... from a stop it will force you back in the seat all the way to 60..... I am sure my AV would feel the same if I dropped an extra 5 grand on a super charger...  Roll Eyes

I love my AV, but it is nice to see what the other trucks out there are like....

AV beats the titan in functionality with the midgate.... but I think the titan takes over the lead from there...

That being said.... I can't wait to get my AV back from the dealer today  chevy

My neighbor has a new Titan, nice truck. Not for me though. It always looks 7/8 scale next to my Av. And I think we have a more comfortable interior. I guess I don't really care who wins the 0-60 arrgument, since they are so close its mostly the nut behind the wheel.

My neighbor bought his touting superior jap quality. His Nissan is six months old, has less than 4k miles on it, and has been back for warranty service five times. My Av is one year old, turned 35k last night, and just went in for its first warranty work. And that was the tailgate cable recall, and a mirror. Just Dunno..........

that is not jap vs american quality.... both are american made and no matter what brand, you will have good ones and bad ones.... you got well built AV and thats where it ends...

My AV has been in many many many times (I am friends with 2 service advisors, 1 service manager, and 2 shop formans at the local dealer.... I never met them before buying my AV)

Nissan did their homework on this one.  You drive a V8 Tundra, and it feels like you're driving a Toyota, nice, but bland and uninspiring.  Drive a Titan, and you know you're driving a rumbling, push you in the seat V8.

this is what my decision came down to, titan or an av.
if i had to have or needed a 'full' truck i would have gotten a titan, it blew away everything else. the only problem i had with the titan was the very loud exhaust volume. thumbs_up thumbs_up

Hey all,

I too, test drove the Titan, before getting my AV. And I'm really impressed with the numbers and truck feel of the Titan.

But I chose the AV for comfort and ride. Not to mention the heavy duty cargo cover that can withstand 200lbs... etc.. etc... If I wanted a truck for hauling stuff, I'll get a used one. I'm not going to spend 30k on a truck to haul stuff from Home Depot.....

that makes sense.  i have the AV for comfortable long hauls, going out, and hauling some things.  for those things that are dirty, big and bulky, etc., i have my '77 F100 for that.

Yes, you can take a Nissan Titan, beat a nice shiny black one Sunday from a light at a deserted intersection. The owner was just as surprised as I was, although if he had aftermarket, intake, exhaust and power programming too he may have won.

The Titan is much quicker than the Av due to the weight savings.  The Titan is not considered a SUV like the Av is and it has an awesome powertrain.  If you wanted speed, you shouldn't have purchased an Av.  I bought mine for looks and comfort.

I can't recall that I saw too many tricked out Suburban's when I was growing up so what's the difference between an Av and a Burban?  The last row of seats.........and maybe 100lbs.

Well I guess its Been Long Enough Without a Result!!!    We Found a Long Stretch of Road, 3 Lanes Wide and about 1/2 mile long, We lined Up with one of My friends in the Middle acting as the Tree, When he Said go, I Jumped Off the Line and Got a 1/2 Fender ahead of him for about a Whole 3 Seconds, I thought I had a chance!!, Those 3 seconds came and Went as the Titan went ahead and Showed me His Taillights at about  3 1/2 Truck lengths by the time we Reached the 100mph mark.  HOWEVER!, He May be Faster But its Hard to Setup a Rematch considering that His Truck is Spending more Time at the Dealer then in His Driveway!

FWIW, many a AV spent time their first year in the shop for warranty work, including mine.  The bottom line, comparing Titan to AV, mod for mod, the Titan will take you every time.  Their lighter and got more ponies under the hood.  That's just reality.

I never looked for the AV to be a racer.  That's not the reason I bought it.  Comfort and ride quality were my determining factor, and I think I made the right choice.

i beat him pretty bad too, backed off at 55 and he stayed behind me. well, lo and behold, guess what i kept seeing, the titan parked in front of the police station, had a buddy who has friends in the p.d. ask around, it's the chief's new truck. i'll be hiding in guatemala for a few years. banghead

comfort it the main thing with the av... i have lowered my av 3/4.5 and my friend still says that it is still more comfortable than a stock f@rd... i havent driven a ford but that is a big compliment... i thought that my truck is already stiff (the way i like it) but i guess its still comfortable for the ride.

A stock Nissan Titan runs about 16.3 @ 86 which is what my 2500 Avalanche runs.  I have yet to line up with one.   Next time I get a chance to....

Nissan Titan published quarter-mile time is 15.4 seconds.

http://www.roadfly.com/magazine/17/nissan_titan.1.html

Motor Trend reports 0 to 60 in just 7.1 seconds.  Those numbers would eat my Grand Prix alive, let alone an Avalanche.  Your boned...

oooh, a bunch of magazine numbers generated by a professional driver in a factory supplied vehicle, very impressive! Beats the heck out of my Avalanches magazine test numbers.
In the real world, at a traffic light, the one who has his engine backed up against the convertor to near wheelspin will have a serious serious advantage over the guy who just punches it when the light changes
even if the first vehicle is stock, which mine isn't.
Don't let numbers scare you off if something that "will beat you" wants to play at a traffic light, remember though, safety first, make sure there is no traffic around  you and, win or lose, back off at an appropriate time.

Well, I have a  souped up 2500, and we own an Armada. From driving both, I am quite confident the Armada will smoke my AV....Now, only if I could get the wife to go out and drag race with me

Supercharger just came out too that puts out close 500hp at the flywheel. That should be good for putting the Titan in the low 14's possibly high 13's.  Cool!

btw...I'm not bashing the AV at all. It was one of the best vehicles I've owned. It's just not in the same class as the Titan as far as this goes.  Cheers!

Agree away, you're most likely right, just sayin' sometimes the better driver wins, happens to everyone once in a while. Doesn't matter how bad your vehicle might be, no car can drive itself.

I won't argue drivinga ability, did Autocross in the SCCA for three years and that is a lot around driving ability.  But with a roughly one second 0 to 60 advantage off the line the Titan driver is going to have to make a pretty big mistake.  The Nissan guys really did their homework (unlike the Honda guys who have built a joke of a 1/2 ton unibody pickem' up truck)

due to where i grew up my "legal" racing experience is limited to 1/4 mile drags, motocross, snow cross and sand drags. I completely agree that in most racing venues a second doesn't mean a whole lot, and a superior vehicle/driver should be able to win anyway.  When the contest is only a city block long, there isn't any time to recover from even a small boo-boo.

i'll further bore you with a couple of examples:

in '95, i was sitting at a light on New Seward HWY in downtown Anchorage, a Toyota MR2 turned out of a side street and pulled up beside me, (wont say what i was driving so as not to enrage anyone hint: its a brand that uses a lot of colored tape to give the illusion of  mo-power.) The guy in the MR2 began to rev his engine and looking over at me grinning-the Toy was obviously not stock. I knew i had no chance but figured i'd get him to put on a show.
Unfortunately, the light changed while he had just redlined the car and had his foot off the gas, i could hear him behind me getting rubber in all the gears, almost caught me too but not quite. when he pulled up to the light he wouldn't even look at me and turned left when the light changed. i won with inferior equipment.

Works the other way too, a couple months ago i was in my car (again nameless) at a light in front of the daytona speedway, there was an early 90s beater thunderbird next to me,
the way he came roaring up, i decided he needed a lesson, but given the difference in our cars i didnt really try too hard, when we got green, he roared out ahead of me, i floored it and started catching up with him , suddenly he cut in front of me, slammed on his brakes and turned into the pep boys 300 feet past the intersection. he won with inferior equipment.

In a sanctioned 1/4 mile race, i completely agree my AVY would be toast against a Titan (or most anything)but in a couple hundred foot race, or a quick interstate bout there are just too many variables to say that the quicker truck would always win.

Precisely.

Sorry, but I don't buy a truck like this to be fastest from stoplight to stoplight Wink

For that, I'd buy an SRT-10 if I had to have the fastest truck around. For stoplight-stoplight or on-track performance, I'll choose the appropriate vehicle for that.

you can have both...in an Avalanche

Smart wife! Neither of my Vettes have lived up to their reputation (95ZR1, 79L82 w/375hp LT1) ended up being garage dwellers.

300 is a nice car... before taking delivery of my Charger I rented one (V6 touring model), for 2 days (the AV was DOA for a couple days)... there were some thing about the interior of the 300 that I didnt like, and was concerned about having the same pet peves in the charger... not the case...

I think dodge made it a muscle car outside with a sport sedan inside... while the 300 has a "mini bently" outside, with a chrysler inside... (sorry... I was not impressed with the 300's dash at all.... lacking alot for the style of the outside)

FWIW, the charger 1/4 mile is in the mid 14's here in AZ, a guy in Michgan ran a 13.8 in an R/T. The 300 would be basically the same (within 1/10, same driver, launch etc etc...due to weight). So comparing 1/4 mile times is not accurate when you are comparing different areas, different temps etc etc...)

In case anyone cares... the best run so far from a 300 SRT-8 I have seen is 12.9 and the Charger SRT-8 is 12.8 the cars went side by side down the track.

Doc, the Titan is a nice truck... I had one as a rental when my AV was in the shop (notice a pattern with my AV yet?), anyway... Power wise, stock for stock it will blow the freakin doors off the Avalanche, and yes you can roast the tires easily like you said... after 2 years of driving the AV though, the ride did seem REALLY stiff, but was it any stiffer then other true pickup trucks I have owned in the past? probably not..

Interior is better layout (gm has never been able to desin a decent interior IMHO), however the light gray dash in the rental seemed kinda, well for lack of a better word right now, "blah". I think that getting the dash in black would be a big improvement... the grey just makes it look to barren...

If I was getting another truck, the Titan would be high on my "look at" list, however I like big trucks... so the Dodge Mega Cab would probably be my #1 to look at...

Toyota is also going to be coming out with a true fullsize that will be built at the new San Antonio plant that should be just about finished with construction. Construction of the plant started IIRC, back in 2003.

For those who say buy american, it is a world market now... chevys are built in korea and mexico (and Flint  Tongue) and Dodges are built in mexico and canada... Fords are built by abuelito, out in some field somewhere  , but yet you buy a honda or toyota and you buy a product that was made by AMERICAN workers.... So the "imports" are becoming very competative in america's "sweet spot market" where in the past they have never really had anything to compete with (remember the Yota T100?). Hell even Hyundai will have a large V8 RWD car before GM does again... LMAO

So the choice is to support american workers and buy imports, or support american businesses, who dont have any american workers anymore, just so you can say I bought american...

My Car is an american brand, owned and ran by the Germans, the car was assembled in Canada, the engine was built in Mexico, and the tranny came from Germany... yup, buying american sure did support american works didnt it?

wow... sorry for the rant... kinda went off in a tangent eh?  Roll Eyes

Roll Eyes

My friend & I race frequently.  A lot has to do w/ the drivers!  Titan has nearly 500 LESS Lbs and at least 10 hp more at a lower rpm.  If you haven't made any hp / performance mods - don't count on it!  Titan is a real nice truck!  It would be my 1st choice if there were no AV - fortunately, there is!  I'll stick to my AV!  By the way, I can still fit into a parking space with a canoe or lengthy lumber in my truck - he cant!

yeah I am well aware that it is based on the 300... hoever the dash in the 300 is different... and looks cheaper then the dash in the Daytona... Oh... and for cheaper... I could have gotten a 300 similar equipment for the same price as my Daytona... and seeing as how they are build side by side... mine is not built any cheaper then yours is. Again, on the outside the 300 is sweet... but the dash looks fitting for a modern day derrivitave of the K-Car

Roll Eyes... hoever the dash in the 300 is different because of the better material.  Yes I agree the DODGE dash is cheap looking  Don't hate if you wanted one so bad you should buy one not put 300C down Huh anyway you look at it the rebirth of the HEMI started with the 300C and you still have a 4 DOOR Charger I guess that's a first 2 barf

Damn boys....Why can't we be friends???

Lets just agree on a few things...

The titan is Nice
The Av is Nice

I prefer the Av because...
"THOUGH I DRIVE THRU THE VALLEY OF RICE, I SHALL FEAR NO IMPORT... FOR TORQUE ARTE' WITH ME..."

And I'm a bowtie kid.  I was raised on two burbans and will always love em.  But I also can respect my friends Titan, and my friends Frontier.

Huh  Oh you have a GT.  My lightly moded GTP (3.25" pulley, CAI, headers, 1.90 rockers, other small stuff) is a mid 13 second car.

Bought Naked AV's 2003 Avalanche. Shipped it back to my home in Hawaii. With the Radix magnacharger, suspension work and exhaust it leaves the Titan in the dust.  So far I've ran a 14.58 at 92 mph. Sent Naked AV the video going down the quarter mile just so he can see what his set up can do in the quarter mile. Does anyone know how to post a video on to the site?

Nice times!  Cool! Most of us Titans are running low 15s to high 14s. One of these days, I'm gonna break down and supercharge this thing, it's just that little matter of spending the 6K to do it!  Beating Congrats on your AV!

Honda doesn't make trucks, they make paper macheted pilots.  I almost cried when I saw a Honda Ridgeline commercial during the super bowl and a friend asked if that was my AV  Angry  Luckily another said no and the AV would eat the ridgeline
