with help from peoples' messages here I have bought on ebay a 2005 Touch screen nav pulled from a new hummer - sold by ebayer cnote6, I highly recommend him.   Then ordered the nav DVD from www.gmpartsdirect.com, about $240 including shipping.

"NON LUX ...PN# 15229287. . non LUX  press your Auto EQ button on your radio and it should say Custom or Talk, if not I dont think this radio is for you."

This went right in place of the old radio which had the built in 6 disk changer - connectors are the same.  I double stick taped the gps antenna on top of the radio.  The dealer's shop foreman was really skeptical it working  but I finally convinced him to look into it.  He wandered off and came back about 30 minutes later having called the factory and with the schematics in hand (not that they were needed).  Programmed the vin and the radio came right up. $42 for the work they did!!!

Next is to add (yet to figure out how, one thing at a time) an AUX input for mp3 music and audio book playbacks and sound from my tablet pc and treo 650.  I don't have any use for the Onstar and don't care for any CD changer.

Then comes the backup camera.

This web site and the people here rock!!!

You could have done it yourself, with a little reference here or not, except for the theftlock clear (on used units). They did just fine. $42 is a lot better than other dealers would have done! Now they know, too!

Adapters from PAC and several others will work for your needs. I used the CD once, in my old 6-disk when it was new, just to see if it worked. That one was a clone CDR of a friends. It worked, and thet was the last time a CD was in my truck (March 03). Plenty of DVD's, and soon a few MP3 CD's, since I have a DVD player in the lower dash slot that will play those.
