there are 3 plugs I'm not sure of, mainly because they go behind the front of the console. One is the mic, I would think. Anyone know what the other two are?

Let's see... the plugs in front half of the [lux] console are: CDX, 12V outlet, cig lighter, Delco-I mean Bvlgari clock, and subwoofer! I cant think of any more...ill take a look at my Escalade console tomorrow though.

Some Cig lighter sockets are on a different fuse. Two on one and one on another if I recall.
`Depends on the vehicle. My Av just has two there.

Smokinfish

Fresh off the console removal, mine went like this:  Remove both seats first.  The bolts/nuts may be a special security breed, to keep you and I away.  I used standard sockets with an impact wrench.  Worked fine.  Going from memory.  In hindsight it would be useful to know the torque spec for these rather important safety elements

1.  Pull off instrument bezel-it snaps off, pull straight out, about 8-10 snap clips
2.  Pull off the front fascia/bezel-the piece with the cig lighters.  4 snaps.
3.  Remove the console cup buckets-storage compt.  A number of small black screws plainly visiible with the removal of the rubber mats on the bottom.  Now you should be able to see the amp.
4.  The only things holding the console to the dash is gravity and 2 bolts behind the cig lighters-remove.
5.  Carefully lift the console from the center amp location so as to dismount the four black "feet" that straddle the seat bolts-don't pull too hard till you get the main harness disconnected-it is located on the hump just forward of the amp if I recall.

Thought I would add a tip for those upgrading the speakers.  Nothing came easy when I did this, but one thing!  The 19mm CDT tweeters I used fit perfectly in the little bozo pillar grills on the windshield.  You slip,em in and you can rotate them and everything.  Since a main objective in my install was stealth-this made me very happy.  Note-they are driven with a separate amp and XO, you can not swap them across for the bose tweets, since there would be no XO protection.  These tweets in conjunction with the tweets I built into the door panel (next to the main driver hole in the interior door panel) provide wonderful imaging.  So as not to sidetrack this thread, I can provide details via PM.

Here's a question...I wonder if the TNR would work in a GMT-560 medium duty truck?? They all use Class II just like the GMT-800s and they also have a double DIN dash opening. Wouldn't that be something - a Kodiak with a TNR!!! Shocked

Two-speaker base system. As long as it understands the VIN format in the BCM and communicates Class II (03+), it should work maybe add a pair of rear speakers...

I have read this post, and I must say i'm pretty psyched for this mod.  I have an '04 Z71 with OnStar, XM, and Premium Bose with in dash 6 disc changer.  I am not going to do the lux amp upgrade, as I plan to go aftermarket amp/speakers.   I also don't mind losing the 6 disc changer (I don't use it now, XM rules!  and I don't mind the devaluation of the resale value, as I plan to keep the truck until it is worthless!)
I have a couple of questions that I would appreciate some help from the experts:

1- from what I can tell, I need to get the non-lux TNR, p/n 15229287  seems to be the newer model, correct?
2- Since I have factory XM already, do I need an XM Tuner, or is it just plug-in from the existing tuner ( I remember seeing a diagram with a harness behind the glove box???)
3- do I need any other harnesses, since I am just replacing the H/U?

From what I have read, I just need to mount the GPS antenna, check the VSS and possibly splice that in, and replace the H/U.  Am I missing anything?

thanks to all for the posts and Sperry's document.

good stuff.

Yup, '9287 is the new NON-LUX unit. '7287 is the OLD non-lux unit. The XM is a separate module behind the glovebox and simply plugs right into the new nav unit. (no reprograming or anything!) Nothing else is needed for the non-lux install... Just check pin "E" of the radio C2 connector (the smaller, 12 pin radio connector). If there is a Dark green/white stripe wire in there, then your Avy already has the VSS wire run. If not, we can help with that if you dont know how to run it. Then just mount the GPS antenna (i posted a picture a page or so back where I mounted mine...works perfectly) and you're good to go!

I got this one: (non-lux is my thing LOL)

1. Yes
2. You need nothing more
3. No harness needed just change out the head units.
4. Antenna mounts under the dash should be a pic in here somewhere.
I would unlock the light sensor on the dash before I did anything or you
will rip it out. Just twist and push it down to make sure.
5. VSS you can do or not do see previous posts for discussions.

Thats the mod I did, in My 2004 Z71 and It was just plug & play. Took 30 mins tops!
Just need a dealer to Tech 2 the theftlock and it was good to go!
As far as adding aftermarket amps I'm not sure what you will need later.

I'm doing the Lux install next. I'll let ya know what the difference is like!

Ordered my extraction tool today and found a buyer for my non lux TNR.

The saga continues...

EDIT Whoops.... Sorry Duramax.

Yup, it would work -- you wouldn't win any audio competitions with it though, unless you installed some extra speakers and redid the speaker harness. As far as plugging it in and having it power up and be functional.. sure. Isn't there something on the GM Fleet website about the availability of NAV radios in fleet trucks?

I'd still like to see a TNR in a late model totally stripped, crank windows, stick shift Cavalier. LOL!

Wow,  called my dealer to get some tech II time.  The Service Manager called me back to clarify what I wanted, and I asked what the charge would be?  Nothing!  "we do this all the time..."

Guess they like my reviews lately.

Some dealer's will freebie it!
Especially if you bought the vehicle from them or they can "win" your future business.

My dealer will up to the point of what they know. But then again I enjoy showing them some "can't be done" mod's like my door chime killer.

Now, they call me for a question or two on occasion! And if they could only fix my OnStar! banghead

Smokinfish-- have you made any other discoveries with the LUX console harness? I probably wont really be able to mess around with mine until the summer when i'm out of school...

---Ben

I have started on diagrams by noting the color of each wire, and in what slot they go into the various blocks. I have never seen so many of the same color wires used for different stuff!!

At first glance it does not look as if the wires to the main block match up with the wires in the AV's harness. If I didn't think I could fry my amp, I would just hook it up and do a plug and pray. But I don't have the Kahunas!!

I'm getting close to just hacking up the harness and using the wires for the basic conversion. But I really need to look at the AV's harness a little closer.

I get the impression that the wires need to be in the same position on both sides. Please correct me if I am wrong. If I do decide to just hack up the harness, I will trace each wire from block to block so I will know more and share it. Because there is no way I can go just by color!!

Durmax that is the first I have heard of the VSS wire being connected to the radio already. Would that be the same wire used for speed variance volume?? Because my radio does do that.

And the saga continues...

Hmmm, I thought I answered that speed-compensated volume question earlier.

"Speed compensated volume" uses non-priority VSS info on the Class II bus, not the dedicated VSS.

Here's some others:
Why change this? Isn't it easier to just swap cables and rewire the amp connectors?

Thanks Sperry! That is exactly what I need. And yes, you are correct, it will be easier to just swap the pins. And judging by the diagrams, that is what will have to be done because they are not matching the Lux harness.

thanks

ahhh ha! Steve those are a big help, thanks. Im assuming the big one (the last picture you posted, C306) is for non-Y91 vehicles only...would you have the pin-outs for the Y91 connector? (the one I have in my escalade console) That way I could make a wiring change x-ref chart like you did for the amp swap. Couple other questions... What are the C206 and C220 connectors for? Where are they located? Last question: so that wierd second black connector that I found in my Escalade console (the one that was next to the huge C306 connector) is ONLY for the Stabilitrak/yaw sensor and therefore not needed at all by me. (unless I do a Stabilitrak mod to my 2500HD )
Thanks again for those pin-outs!

----Ben

PS--- as a side note.. I was riding in a friend's 1500HD yesterday and we were listening to some music with the Premium Bose system...boy once you get used to the Lux system sound, you cant beleive how bad a premium system really sounds when you hear it again!!! Until I heard my newly installed Lux system, i thought the premium system was perfectly fine. It (the premium system) seemed like it had so much less bass and clarity than i remember. Going back into my truck is like i just pulled cotton out of my ears! I was originally planning to use a C2A-GM24 to add an additional sub and amp, but the Lux system really fills my smaller cab (Avy sized...as opposed to an Escalade or Denali) with wonderful (not overpowering, but the little sub definetly lets you know its there) bass!

The one above it! C206 is a Y91

They didn't define where C220 was `just the description. I would have to chase it down...

There is a power connector - I didn't upload it. How many connector pins are there?

Why not just retrofit an "Amp Connector rewired" NON-Y91 harness in there?

I'll e-mail you the zip of the harness connectors for the GMT800 trucks. (When I sort through the rubble...) There's a directory that has the images in it, that has to be within the same directory as the html file (the HTML is not inside the image directory). Hopefully, you'll figure it out.
I compresed it using 7-zip. The other zip utilities mess up some gif's. See if this one is OK.

Durmax that is the first I have heard of the VSS wire being connected to the radio already. Would that be the same wire used for speed variance volume?? Because my radio does do that.

And the saga continues...

I have the bells and whistles D-max, no VSS wire here.  Used a leftover pin from the changer install for the "E" terminal and "switched" the wire, hiding the switch in the side of the storage bin.

...and that raise a good question.  My stock radio has the auto volume control.  How did it do that w/o a VSS?
