Thats too bad the XM box from the Impala did'nt work out for you!! (im assuming you tried to install it in your S-10) doh!!
Thats interesting about why they make the XM box unable to learn a new VIN... And yes, 630$ IS quite a deal!!! lets see... normal dealer prices... lux amp: 600 TNR: 1600 GPS antenna: 100 nav disc: 300 noise compensation mic: 30....i bet the guy who won that ebay auction is pretty happy with his find!

I totally understand and respect your decision.. however! You may want to think it over again for three reasons:
1) Aftermarket systems, especially high dollar navigation ones, get stolen ALL the time. On every car and truck forum, every day someone posts about how their vehicle got broken into and everything got stolen. A factory head unit is a LOT less likely to get ripped off.
2) Aftermarket systems, no matter how nice and expensive they were, actually do not help the resale value of your truck at all. If you were a car dealership looking at a Avalanche getting traded in, would you rather see a nice clean truck with an (apparently) factory GM navigation system, Bose amp etc? Or would you rather see some motorized goofy fold out screen setup with a little remote velcroed to the center console, etc, wondering about which kid at what Best Buy hacked up the wiring to install? (not that its what you are going to do, I'm just saying)
3) Only stock systems will work properly with your trucks other components.. think about nice features like Speed Compensated Volume, steering wheel controls, OnStar etc. You can fix some of that with aftermarket modules, but that's a $100 bucks here, $100 bucks there.. etc
Think it over.. it will be a weekend project, for sure, but its nice to learn how to do this stuff and it gives you a chance to learn a little more about your truck too. Even if you see all this and still want to eBay it, at least end those three auctions and sell everything as a package deal. You will make more money this way. If someone is looking to do a nav upgrade, its not fun having to fight for every component you need across 3-5 different auctions etc.
Ok, I'll get down off my "stock head unit" soapbox. ;-)

One of the NorCal guys (I keep forgetting his screen name
) Retrofitted an XM box before they were available by parts... Maybe the later software for the Tech2 may not have the programming step in them or something, however it has been done in the past.
I wonder what this will do...?
Digital Radio Receiver Setup

Well, I'm heading back to my favorite junkyard in Michigan that gets late model GM wrecks, and I plan on grabbing lots of harnesses, an amp or two, etc and I'll snag a couple of XM boxes. Couldn't hurt to plug one in and see if I can get the Tech 2 to program it, right? It's nice to finally have an XM ready HU!
This spring, the headliner comes down and I am drilling holes to mount my factory XM and OnStar/GPS antennas.. (my current OnStar antenna is on the back window, old style one)
I think it's funny that SI calls it "Digital Radio Receiver" - as if GM supports other types, like Sirius.

Hmmm, what is this going in that wasn't XM ready?

Sorry guys..i have (another) question... I have 3 Y91 LUX amps... An '044, a '454, and a '992. The 15199992 is installed in the console currently. Are there any of these amps that have better compatibility or anything? Steve I beleive you are using the '992, correct? And I think Avarchitecht is using an '044...
-----ben
The `992 works and sounds just fine, but I had to get it programmed (new). Other's didn't always need to be prog'd. though. Hit & miss.. `never pinned that all down.
I would imagine that a pulled out `992 from a working system would work normally. Since there's no theft lock in the amps. Just system config differences (# of speakers, acoustics, etc) may be a bit different.

I would imagine the S-10 would be! Did it have an RDS radio?
Get that Tech 2 and play! And when you grab the XM boxes, get the VIN of the vehicle(s) they came out of. Somewhere I heard that if you are setting these up, the original VIN was needed.

Yes, my S-10 had an RDS radio but the "word on the street" was that if your HU says AM FM it is not XM ready. If it says BAND, then it is. (See pic below). This may be just another false statement about the mysterious Delphi stock units.

My understanding is "RDS". However on a single-connector HU, it's no doubt what you said..
If one has a UC6, it's a 2-connector HU and it should have the ability.
The LM7 appears so basic, that it's a single-connector unit. The UN0 and UP0 may have it, but there's no indication I can see that confirms one way or the other...
That's another rumor needing to be cleared!

My 6 disc CDX stooped working. Turns on fine and loads up discs, HU screen CDX comes up but will not select disc. Everything has "0". A single CD will play, but no #'s on screen. Any thoughts??
This is the GM slot loader, TNR, Y91 setup. Thanks

When you say "a single CD will play", do you mean it will play a CD in the TNR's cd slot? or it will play just one disc in the CDX? I would maybe check the Class 2 data wire...but then again it probably would not even load up without the data bus...maybe the changer went bad? hmmm....

Hey Duramax NICE CONSOLE
Can you gather some part numbers while you got that thing apart.
Like what's the part number for the wiring harness that plugs into that y91 amp?
Whats the wiring harness part number that is plugged into the back of the cd changer?
Oh and the big one: when you take the cd changer out it, what is the part number for the plastic mount that is in the console. Basically the black box screwed into the console that the cd player rests in.
Got any pics of that?? I realy don't want to mess mine up in my av, and it looks like it come right out.
So maybe that one will go in it's place. I am I making sense??
Thanks!

It will play one disc in CDX
Remove fuse - wait a few seconds - insert fuse. `Sounds like it glitched!
Factory fuse is the INFO fuse. If you tapped elsewhere, well
Pull that one.

smokinfish--- There are no separate harnesses inside that whole console...its one BIGGG bundle of wires. The part number for the whole thing is 15194112. It's basically a Tahoe/Avy/Sub/Yukon/Silvy harness with a few additional wires for the CDX, noise compensation mic, the silly dashboard Bvlgari clock, and the rear seat warmers. Believe it or not, the big plastic piece has most of the part number sticker torn off!!(see pic)
However, I dont think it would be worth buying one and putting it in your Avy console...knowing GM it would be probably around 250 dollars (considering that piece of plastic that houses the two cubbys and lighter/12V outlets is 120$!!!
)...and im not even sure if it would fit in an Avy console. Your best bet is probably to modify the existing cubby to accept the CDX. The part number that you probably want to use for the CDX harness is 15312903. I hope that helps you out!

Back before I bought my Av, I was looking at EXT's. I told the salesgirl that If I was to sign the papers, would she have her service dept "remove the clock?" She asked why I "wanted it removed?" and I replied "So I wouldn't waste my duct tape by covering it". For some reason she was a bit stunned..
.
I suppose they're a good test for a sledge hammer...

Until my console arrived, I didnt mind the Bvlgari clocks (i had only seen them in pictures and from a distance). When the console arrived, i really had overestemated them. Its nothing more than a plastic Delco part (complete with "made in mexico" stamped on the back).....
Thats just IMHO though...

Oh, that's just me... Being grumpy.
I just had a bit of curiousity why they had something of old technology installed in something a bit more advanced.

On the XM boxs. they can be vin cleaned for a few were done about a year ago by screen name horacio. Not sure what was done but it can be done. Delphis idea is kinda stupid for they might get more custmors if they were but then I guess they are into selling product and not air time.
