Any of you have one that you have taken off to put on aftermarket stuff?  What's it worth?  Wife's gonna get a part time job to get me something for my B-day in about 2 months and she mentioned getting me a drop down but not sure if they are worth it or just to get an aftermarket.

Retrofitting an OEM screen isn't easy. Have you considered headrest monitors instead? Anything decent in size as a drop-down, would block your rear view mirror - not that you can see much out of an Av anyway.

"Better" as in less cumbersome, not in the respect of screen size of course.

I spent twice as much as the RSE option for my set, with the thought of the grandkid's stiff necks looking up and over, as well as any blocking of the inside rear view mirror for the driver, I chose the smaller (at the time) headrest monitors along with a pass visor screen of the same size.

Now, one can get the 9" versions too.

But, that's just personal choice, fortunately we have that..

Here's one of several mfg.'s...

I did some work on my OEM drop down last weekend. There is built in brackets that the unit screws into with 4 10mm screws. I don't know how you would be able to find out if the support is in place without gutting into the head linner. Not somehting I would want to do.

I am not an expert, but I know I seen a posting on here where someone did just that, added the overhead monitor.  If I remember correctly, to do this, you need to rip out your headliner and put in the bracket that has the correct mounting holes in it, the one in there is not set up for it.

I have been looking at doing this and prefer the headrest monitors, not permanently mounted but mounted to the posts.  That way when you aren't using them, you can take them out so they don't attract the attention of a would be criminal.  There are also more options where you can purchase the headrest monitor which has a built in DVD player.  They have many options available.....my $.02.

The side-load 9" would have a problem on the driver's side unless you don't have the extended height of the seat-belt guide part. (Whatever you call it?) Other than that, it's only $$, but really nice!
