How many miles do you have on your Av?

I have had my Av for just about a month and have put on about 3000 miles. This is because I work for a home builder in the Service Department and travel to all our developments. I love my Av and am woundering who has the most miles and what can you recomend to get the most out of my Av (other than regular oil changes, lube,and tire rotation)?

I have an 03 -Z66 with 60K.  Have driven suburbans for years, this is more versatile and rides better.
My bride didn't like to drive the burban, but likes the AV.  I change the oil when the oil monitor says so, usually about 8K.  I use Mobil 1 Synethic.  Replaced the original Goodyear tires@ 45K. Rplaced the Goodyears with Yokohama Geolanders.  They seem to corner better, ride as well, and have better wet traction.  They have a 60K warranty. I hope this helps.

      I have had mine for 2.5 years, and have accumulated 44,000 miles! Have taken it to Tampa Bay twice, Detroit once, and frequent the Nashville scene @ least once a month! What better to drive than a comfortable and capable AV! Most of all my miles are pleasure, I only live 5 miles from work! 

     I recommend the same as rxzruby, love and attention. Keep it clean, and treat it with care. We all wish you the best of luck in  your new found relationship!

Today is April 15, 2023.

I put in my reitrement papers effective July 1, 2023.  We're going to get a vintage (2002 to 2010 model) Airstream and tour the country visiting family for a couple years.

Our 2002 NFE bought October 25, 2002 has 338,450 miles.  Yes it still has it's original puke green interior.  We are however going to swap out the Supercharged 6.0 Escalade motor we put in back in '15 and drop in an 8.1 I've had sitting in the shop for the past couple years.  The wife has been nagging me to finally do something with the parts Av's and EXT's that are lying about the property.  So I'll start cataloging and putting these things on the board as see if anyone needs some Av or EXT pieces.


But Seriously....

We did buy our '02 NFE 10/25/02 and it has 39,700 on it.  It needs new rear brakes, and we have been fortunate in not having any reliability issues.  We change the oil every 5K with a AC Delco PF 59, one quart of Lucas and five quarts of 5W30 that I picked up on sale somewhere - always a name brand oil, not store or off brand stuff.  The driveline service was done at 26K and plan on doing the next one at 50K.

2002, Purchased Jan 02, 89,000 miles, ISS problem, (ok after relacement), , the parking brake problem, the "harmonic" noise on medium acceleration problem. Original shocks, still great, original plugs and wires, original brake pads,(approximately 1/3rd left. Original battery, cladding has held up very well in Texas sun, no add oil between changes, (Mobil 1, every 5,000 miles, rotate tires at oil chg intervals. Xmission and rear axle fluids every 30,000. Gas mileage 16 around Dallas, 19-20 on highway. Plan to keep to 200-250k miles. Ride  and drives like new.

02 AV with 175,000 miles, the only problem is fuel pumps, and shocks.  Has had 33's on it since 100,000 miles and still rides smoother than just about any other truck on the road.  It gets MOBIL 1 syn. every 5000-7000 miles, and that's about it.  We've managed to rip off a good bit of plastic, but it usually just snaps back on.  This truck has been driven HARD, and shows no signs of giving up.  It was our first Avy, and we just sold her.

04 AV with about 100,000 miles on it, and hasn't had the first problem other than the wipers.  Ran the stock tires to like 70,000 miles and they still had tread when we took them off. 

04 AV with 26,000 miles, hasn't had the first problem other than the paint chipping off the Ac controls.  (MY baby)

05 AV with 7,000 miles, and no problems duh.


As you can tell we love our Avy's.  My dad has had vehicles from all three of the original full-size truck producers, and he has preferred Chevrolet for the past 18 years that I know about, and up until 02 he was a silverado fan until I talked him into buying the 02 av, and ever since, that's the only vehicle for me or him.  They're super low maintance, and we really don't maintance them like we should, but all they get is Mobil 1, new air filter, tires, and that's it.

Had to replace the sunroof w/in the 20K, A/C condenser got replaced at 25K, brakes first went at 28K & 30K(rear & front respectively), brakes went again another 10K later, tires got replaced 14months ago w/ the lift, getting replaced again by Interco in a month after 14K, 1st tranny replaced at 52K, 2nd tranny replaced 3 days later, current tranny holding up.

At 90K, depending what you may have already done so far and how recent, personally I would recommend changing the transfer case and both F&R differential fluids, transmission service, fuel filter, cabin filters, pcv valve. Spark plugs are a piece of cake, might want to think about those too, at least at or before 100K. Not sure what a dealer would want to do, but nothing a dealer does is ever cheap. Nice thing about these rigs is they are easy to work on. You might think about doing all of it yourself. Lots of good info on this site.

At 600K miles per year, I would hate to pay your gas bill!!  I am almost certain that is a typo, you would have to be driving 24 hours a day 365 days a year at full speed..... 

At 60mph, driving 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, you would only drive 525,600 miles.  That would not include stopping for gas or anything else!!!

WOW, that is really good.  I have a cavalier that I use for commuting.  With the price of gas, it is an easy choice in the morning which vehicle to take.  Plus, it just make the times I drive the AV, that much more enjoyable!

I Have an 2003 Z66 that I bought new in Dec 0f '02. I currently have 125,000 miles on it. I do a lot of highway driving. I replaced the tires at 79,000 and have only had the stering shaff repacked (a known problem) and a BCM replaced. I even still have the original brakes! Like I said I do a Lot of highway driving! I have always used Mobile 1 synthetic oil and replace the oil when the indicator gets to 25% which usually occurs around 5,000 to 6,000 miles.

wierdest thing happened to me last night...i was driving and hit the odometer button to see how many total miles i was at because i knew i was close to 80,000 and when i hit it 79,999 came up and then 2 or 3 secs later i hit 80,000.  it was so out of the blue that i decided to check and was able to watch it hit 80,000.     i have a 2002 z71 that i bought in october of 2001 brand new.   man do i love this truck

1043xx.  just went in for the 2nd time since buying for repairs.  first was a u-joint right after buying (bought at 36K miles in Oct 04).  this time for an ignition switch.  Not too bad considering I've averaged a lil over 3400 miles a month since owning it and still put 12K+ miles on my car in the past 9 months also.

There's been a few lil issues here and there, but very few major problems.

Funny thing happened tonight.  After a weekend of camping and some light 4 wheeling I go home, unloaded the truck, went to dinner 4 hours later and when I pulled into my parking space I heard hissing.  I got out and found that I had broken a valve stem    I have no idea how that happened?  Do those things just give out?  I did not hit anything.

Wow i thought i had it bad and mine has almost 138,000. Its an 02 7Z1, ive had to replace the melted cats, and a small leak from the transfer case that the dealership thankfully helped pay for. Other than that my baby runs like a champ! Ill only get rid of it only to get a newer one! lol.

Last Saturday passed the  :o200,000 mark. It is a 2002 Z71, ordered in August '01 and delivered around 9/16/01.  It is GREAT!
By the way, anybody know about a recall about the in-tank fuel pump. The 2000 Suburban, et al were recalled.
I had a problem with mine going out recently, causing severe backfires and then frying all four O2 sensors. Very expensive repair!  My stealer did not do me well.  CITY CHEVROLET in CHARLOTTE ripped me off BIGTIME. The repairs took about four hours and the book said nine hours so guess what I paid. I wrote a letter, got a call offering me a 10% refund but I stuck to my guns on the GOUGING on the time and they agreed to send me a check for the difference...but you know what they say about checks in thye mail.....!
