I had a good idea for GM.

Make an Avalanche SS using the 2wd Platform with WBH. Insert a 500hp LS7. Run 22 all the way aroung. Mount a rear spoiler to the back cover. The reason you ave to use a WBH is because or Areo.

my second idea is since they are talking about discontinuing the cladding. is to make an Avalanche Calssic. This would be a cladded Av either with the old body style or the new body style. GM would be able to charge more for them to make up for the extra cost of the cladding. I think this would be a smart thing to do for those of us that would not be caught dead in a WBH.

Good idea, but why WBH??? It is aero-neutral

Give me cladding or give me death.

Because CLADDING says OFF ROAD. NOT SS...

WBH SCREAMS SS

Super Sports have traditionally been sleak, performance, ROAD MACHINES.

Not Rugged Off Road Trucks.

Not necessarily. One of the differences that separates our 68 Chevelle SS is the addition of hood, fender and lower body trim that the Mailbu didn't have.

I'd like to seen and SS version too.

I think GM has other things to worry about right now.

My Dad is retired GM and I'm starting to worry for him. With United trying to get out of their obligations... who knows what could happen.

Good idea. I'd even settle for a "Sport". Use, the 310hp 5.3, Z66 Suspension (preferably a couple inches lower) , Monochrome Paint with matching Bumpers, Mirrors, Door Handles, Fender Flares, SS Gauge Cluster (I prefer the Escalade Platinum, but this IS a Chevy), 20" Wheels. AND NO UGLY XM, or ON* antennaes to clutter things up. Shocked

But that is exactly my point.

All those things you mentioned gave it a sleak, performance look.

On the other hand, the cladding is there to protect the body in off road use.

Now...  Should they make an OFF ROAD Sport/Hi-Perf Edition... The cladding would work.

But NOT a Super Sport with cladding.

It just doesn't work for me.  (I do respect your right to your opinion)

Sounds to me that this is the last thing that GM needs right now.  Automotive experts are saying (and I agree), that GM has concentrated to much on the high end vehicles and thus have lost market share to both Ford and Chrysler whom have come out with dynamic vehicles in the sub 32k price range.

I would love to see them do an SS version of the Avalanche but don't see it in the near future.  JMHO

It's too heavy a vehicle for them to concentrate on an SS.  They would first go for a tahoe.  From the reports the new '07s will have a significant increase in hp and tq, that would surely be welcome on an underpowered 6000lb beast.

Slapping SS on any vehicle that Chevy makes will not fix GM's problems. They missed the retro boat and forgot the common customer who wants something uncommon. GM is in full retreat with this "everyone gets employee pricing". Reorganization soon to follow.  Embarrassed  wail

I agree 100%  If they don't get their act together soon there could be real trouble.  But then there stock takes a huge jump the last couple of days.  Glad we all could make ol's Kirk a little bit richer.

They are talking about a retro Camaro but you watch.  They will come out with one and it will be 35k+.  Why bother?

I have been watching and waiting with intrest for the return of the Camaro too. Considering how well the Mustang did and the intrest in the return of the Hemi in cars like the Magnum and now the Charger... I think the Camaro would do well.

If GM does'nt hurry they will miss the boat again.

My dealership has an "SS" version.
It's a WBH, but has the sails and all other plastic areas painted (it's a white AV).
List price is $52 smackers  Shocked Shocked Shocked
Same engine and everything. Only difference that I can tell from the sticker is the painted plastics, performance muffler and cold air intake, a few window decals, a Southern Conversions emblem, and ...uh....we... that's all.

If you want a true SS, start with the heart. That biotch has to have 500 hp. Period.
Beef up the wheels, tires and brakes, paint all the cladding (no WBH here), cold air intake, Corsa or Borla pipes, maybe a header upgrade, jazz up the interior with some dash upgrades, embroidered leather seats, a ram air hood, . Then stick an SS emblem on the side.
Give me something that will compete with the big boys, not some pansy-ars ss-want-a-be (like the Silverado SS).
I'll pay for that directly from the dealership in a heartbeat.
Wish that you could order Chevy's A La Carte.
Take an AV, add back a crate engine (500 hp), Allison tranny, Painted cladding, etc...

Come on Chevy!!! Let me be the first to place a custom order for my next AV.
If you build it (like we want it), they will come.

PS.  Roll out that smokin' next camero concept ASAP!!!

Like they are doing with the new HHR.  They are banking a lot on that there is still a market for a PT Cruiser like rig.

I got tired of waiting for GM to do the SS Avalanche so am finishing my own.  Started with the 2WD WBH Z66, have pulled the rims and replaced with Silveradoo SS rims, added the front bumper cover from the SS, replaced door handle to body color, added badging in correct areas and am waiting for the last couple of parts to finish up.  Have to do the mirror caps and the rear bumper.  Looking real close to the Silverado SS from the front right now.  Was going to color match the sails but have decided against that option, think the black looks better.  Hope to tear into the engine this summer and add the STS turbo kit and tweak it up a little more for some increased boost to get it to run like it looks.  Expect to do the 2"-3" drop on it next month to improve the handling.  Believe it or not, except for the engine stuff, it's not that bad price wise to convert the truck.  I've already done something like this on my Sierra and people swear it is a special edition from GM.  Keeping it mild but different works good.

Sounds great.
But in my humble opinion, a true SS requires an engine upgrade/add-on to earn the badge.
The rest is fluff (needed fluff though).

Come on GM!!! Let me order my next AV off the A la carte menu.
Everything from engine to tranny, to any of GM's paint offerings, to options.
Logistics would be a bit to iron out, but sale would make up for that obsticle.

That's why I said I was doing the engine mods, the STS turbo primarily.  To back up the badging.

That's looking good.  Nice rims.  I figure if GM won't build what we want, nothing to keep us from doing it ourselves (with the exception of running out of money).

Because I believe that the SS AV should have it's own bumper this is what I did to mine. I took out the DRL/Fogs (Which broke and were loose anyway) and installed tubes up to my engine compartment (one goes directly up to my K&N FIPK II) and covered the holes with grill wire and these are the results...
