NAVIGATION ISSUES?
«
on:
12/22/05 08:06 AM »
I was just reading an article about how people are having issues with navigation in some high end vehicles and it mentioned this:
"Earlier this year, GM issued a bulletin that advised mechanics that the navigation system on its Escalade and other models "may exhibit a condition in which the vehicle reports an inaccurate location." It was another case of the software blues."
My question is has anyone had any issues? -my nav seems to be reasonably accurate. It tends to take the long way sometimes avoiding some side streets which are more direct. It recalibrates imediately if I decide to use secondary roads though.
How do you go about obtaining the newer NAV DVD upgrades. I heard that through caddy you are entitled to a few upgrades for free. Is there any truth to this, and how do you get them?
Thanks all

I think that plow you have acts as an additional antenna to keep you accurate

I have not had any problems with my NAV.... other than not showing sections of town ....completely constructed 3 years ago....
sometimes I wonder what the date is on the NAV disc I have...
I too have heard when there are new updates...I can get them for free.... seems like I read that in an 06 EXT brochure....but I will have to ask Cadillac this one......
I ask my salesman...he smiles a lot, says he will find out....but is clueless when I follow up with questions..he just doesnt know much.

Nav was acting Wacky yesterday-the arrow marker kept jumping off the highway and then redirecting back to the highway. I do have the VSS switch installed, but it was on at the time.

My navi in my EXT sucks compared to the one in my Lexus. Half of the addresses I enter don't exist and when you actually get to your destination, it shows an incorrect street name.

I had a problem with mine about a week ago ... was way off ... trying to tell me to turn left to enter the e-way and I had already made my left ..... then telling me to turn right on this side street and left here and right there to get back to the highway .... eh ... I was already on the highway .... Silverbudman had a similar problem ... instead of a direct route for us to meet up off the e-way it took him thru town .... what a mess .... I think it was due to the overcast sky ... and the fact that the "GPS" with the line thru it was showing .... but once we got to where we were meeting and ate then got back to our trucks it was fine ....

you need to change the region .....
bring up the map of the US ... should be when you hit the button to destination ....
in the right side of the screen you will see the US map ... tap it .... then set your region that includes Chicago ....
current region will be displayed in Green ....

Just to comment on the Navigation update....According to my dealer and some other printed source I don't remember: 2008 and up Escalades did not come with the two free Navigation updates of the previous years. An updated Navigation disc is available but it is priced at MSRP $199. ::)There is also an updated Firmware available for the Nav systems that can be installed by the dealer (for free with right complaints) but it does cause problems with GPS if an aftermarket lockpick like the GMX322 is installed. Some info on the Cadillac owners and Tahoe forums about it.

The GMX322 is compatible with the latest update for 2007+ Chevy Avalanche style nav system. I think its the same for EXT. Go to gmnavdisc.com enter your vin# and get the Latest part#, then search it on Ebay. Got mine for 65.00 it was part #25974486 When you put the latest nav disc in for the first time, it updates the firmware, The dealer can do it too but there is no need.

I am not having the issue you describe but I would like to up date my disk. When I enter my VIN in the GM Disk web site I get the message that the disk is on backorder. Someone has said that the disk us upgraded and available in October, can anyone confirme this?

I have not had any issues with my nav and I do have a switch on the speed sensor. However my avic d1 is a much better navigation system.
As far as the updated nav disc goes my truck came without a disc I bought 1 of ebay copied it and then resold the original. no harm no fowl thats just my 2 cents

I run a copy as well of the 2009 NAV DISC # 25956245, I still think my Garmin Nuvi is probably better, but I like the factory NAV screen and such.
