alright... im still catchin up with newer GM technology but i do know my prix more than anything. Now.. on the GP, the HUD displays radio functions i.e AM FM CD TAPE. Looking at my schematics, it looks as though the E&C is used primarily for the radio functions bc it shows that data lead going into radio schematics. The HUD actually receives a lead directly for speed input from the PCM. The following leads go directly from the dimmer switch to the HUD.... Ground, ON switch input, Display Dimmer Input and 2 leads for the motor. Other leads to the HUD are the "Hi Beam Input", "Vehicle Speed Input", E&C data input" and a "Enlgish/Metric" input. The dimmer switch just has basic leads. What i dont understand is the E&C data input. The radios in these cars are not even linked to any kind of data bus other than the one shared for steering wheel controls. Sperry, i wonder if it would be safe to assume that the E&C link is solely for the radio display of the HUD. Time to dig some more. I NEED AVALANCHE books!!! Grrrrrrr.  To be continued...........

Both would get the VSS DATA from the PCM/Live VSS. E&C or Class II wouldn't matter.

The other items would need the data bus compatability. E&C for the 02 Av and Class II for the 03~06 Av's.

That boils down to (00?)01~03 GP's for E&C and 04(05?) GP's for the class II.

About the radio controls, I believe some are on the 03~06 class II bus in the GMT800 trucks. Likely for the RSA compatability. We just only see them on the display. XM has to send that to the HU display also.

So, that's another thing to see what becomes of this.

MWK, I presume you have an 03~06? You may want to use the sig feature and indicate what Av you have...

----

I don't have GM-Lan info for the 07 Av folks. Many of the cars had that for a few years now, but not the 05 GP, per the info I see, as it's also/still class II. So it should be no different than the 04's HUD, except perhaps some DIC functions.

Wow you guys are good. Thanks for the schematics Sperry Smiley

I'm going to try it if I can find a HUD. What wires should I tie into in the Av? Also, should I put in diodes to prevent any backflow into the Av harness?

I would love to have the HUD on my Av and Tahoe!  That's the one thing I really miss about my Grand Prix!!  I don't know why GM won't offer the HUD as an option on all of their vehicles!  I would pay for it in a heartbeat!!!!

Also, should I put in diodes to prevent any backflow into the Av harness?

I would doubt that you would need to, even though you're operating two clusters in a vehicle that wasn't designed for. I don't know what it would do with the SOH polling by the BCM when the system is powered up. (SOH is "State of Health")

Other than the SOH, the module is likely just in a "read only" mode anyway.

Remember, until someone does this, it's still unknown territory!

So, who will be the first with a HUD in their Av? Smiley

I am going to check the local scrapyards and see what cost I am looking at for a 2004+ Grand Prix HUD.  The H2 is based off of a modified GMT800 so if I can get it to work, the results should be able to be reproduced on the Avalanche.  I am not very talented when it comes to electronics, but from what I can see here, I might be able to rig something up.  I hope others get involved too, though, so we can call on each other for help.

There were a few people in one of the Hummer forums working on this, but I have not seen an update since last fall, so I do not know what progress they made.  One of them owns a plastic fabrication company, and hope to make replacement dashpieces, so people can just go that route and buy the entire kit, so they just swap out their dash.  It sounds nice enough, but like I've said, no progress in months.

I hope that all works out. `Sounds like the H2 folks let theirs fade a bit like this topic did until recently.

Perhaps their's needs to get "bumped" too..

Once one does it - here or there, certainly it'll be a hot topic.

This sounds like a good idea adding a HUD seeing the Speedo while driving with the sun in your face can be difficult.  I have a question what year did the corvette start using  class II I may be able to get  a 04 HUD

The corvette's HUD is connected to it's IPC and needs that to interface with. Not like the others.

The class II bus type in the `Vette was MY 2001 & after.

OK they are 2 posts on this MOD this one and this one LINK
Since this post had more details I'll put updates here

I was working with Sperry on this before he got sick and put it on the back burner. Midwest Kid is working on this also.

The HUD does work but the problem is there is no room for it under the Dash Cover so I'm in the process moving things around to fit it in. Looks like I'm going to lose half the left defroster vent. By the way if you want to try this they make the switch but do not make a harness, I made my own. Heres a couple Pic the first one is the top of the dash you will see a brace in the way and that white thing near the top is the back of the Speedo which will have to be moved forward about a inch. The second is the HUD unit. I'll try to get more pic tonight
But feel free to read both  posts and ask questions it you need to.
