vertabatt,

Man you are AWESOME.  I have done the lighting mods the other way every since I have joined.  Today, I did it this way for the first time and IT ROCKS.  So much easier than the Scotchlocks and diodes UNDER box.  And it is reversable if you need to take your AV in for electrical warranty work without having to fuss and fight over the aftermarket wiring..........2 thumbs up my friend...great job.  THANKS!!

Vertabatt,

There is really nothing that I can say good about this mod that has not already been said! I completed this mod today(it is something that I have wanted for a long time), and it more than satisfies my thirst for light in the dark! love Thanks for making this so 'simple stupid' for me, being that I am electrically impaired???!
One thing that I noticed when I completed this mod, was that my fogs were not working when my lights were on low beams:(. I always have my fogs on when my lights come on, so this was irritating me a bit banghead. I decided to try to remedy this myself using the same diode system that you introduced me to in this thread.
I started with the striped end of a fifth diode, placed it in the low beam '85' hole, and went to the fog '85' hole. It worked! Cool! This completed the look and feel that I was going for. Now my fogs and DRLs are on when the low beams are.
Without this thread, I would not have been able to do this, so much thanks for your time, and attention to detail! Happy modding!  Wave

AWESOME!  Thanks for the compliments!

Good thinking with the diode from the low 85 to the fog 85 for Fogs-On-Low!

I did this for a member at MODAPALOOZA in NJ earlier this year...  I thought it was kind of wierd, but I guess for those members too lazy to press the button...

 Big laughter with tears

maybe I will add it to the walkthrough for those lazy people out there   Roll Eyes

Glad to see you got exactly what you wanted though!

Thanks.

Do you know if you can over-ride this in the event that you need to turn the fogs off for some reason?  I guess I could just go try and see, but I am lazy.

I believe that with this 5th diode in you will NOT be able to turn the fogs off when the low beams are on.  With low beams off the fog button should work normally.

I still don't get why people want that 5th diode, but hey if they want it they got it!

The only way that I can get my fogs off, is to turn off the headlights, or turn your lights to the parking lights. I always have my fogs on, when my headlights are on, so I opted to do this. I agree, it is not for everyone, and I might be a little lazy; but not too lazy, I performed the mod!

I may try this method with mine. With my 2000 F*@d Exploder, the fog lights stay on all the time except for on high. What I mean is, once I push the fog light button, they come on everytime the key is turned on and it is dark enough to illuminate the lights automatically.

Hopefully this made sense.

OMG that was easy!  I prepared the diodes last night, and it took me all of 5 minutes to complete this mod.  Thanks for the easy to follow instructions.

Just did mine (the wife's) this morning before church. Extremely easy and I even did the 5th diode for the fulltime fog lights.

First pic is low beams and the second is high beams.

I just did this .... !!! VERY easy ....

I did Diodes 1, 3 and 4 ... I didn't do Diodes 2 b/c I didn't want my lows while the highs were on ... just my preference ...

I do have a tip about remembering what side the black stripe is on ...

When you take the Diodes out of the package ... keep the red tape on the end of the Diode ... take the white tape off and slip the heat shrink on by that side ... DONT remove the red tape until your ready to install the Diode. ... ... this also gives you a hold while using your lighter to shrink the tubing ...

I have the FTDRLs and haven't had any issues with heat.  It might get warmer in there when you run your fogs too (for cladded trucks, since they share the same housing), but it shouldn't cause any trouble.

I almost always have my fogs on when I turn on my lights (meaning DRLs and fogs are on simultaneously) and I haven't had any issues at all.

Completed this Sat. and it worked great except for one question. Why do my DRL's turn off when I switch the headlight knob to parking lights? Shouldn't I have all 4 ambers at that point? Everything else works exactly as described.

hmmm... I'm actually not sure about this one!  I will have to check.

I also noticed that if my auto headlights come on and I turn them off (by pushing the knob over to the left circle past "auto") the drls also shut off.  Guess thats the way to go into stealth mode...

because the diode goes to the low beam relay. when the light switch is tured on to the parking light position the low beams go off and the power going through that relay is off. hence no power going through the diode to turn on the drl's.
