I have a couple of friends that want me to do this to their Silverado's, plus a friend that has an Av...  He was supposed to join up here...  LoL

Hmm.

Did some early-morning driving and some day driving on the way into work.

I noticed that my ambers stay on with the lights only when the high beams and/or the fog lights are on.

Need to look at maybe a crossed wire this evening.   Tongue

I like the way DRLs look with just parking/running lights on cladded AVs, all 4 corners on front are amber  Thumbs up!

I'll run that way near dusk, or when overcast and raining/snowing, maybe use fogs lights too. I only do it when visibility is where headlights don't do me any good, it makes a huge difference in other's ability to see you.

Note that the DRLs will be off if you just turn on the parking lights. Otherwise they should function normally as well as come on with the headlights.

I just have teh lights set on "auto" - the DRLs used to come on without the headlights. Now, I noticed that the DRL's dont' come on unless I have the fog lamps.

I'll check under the hood Wednesday if I get a chance. I got home this evening - made dinner - waited for rugrat #1 to come home from soccer practice so I could shuffle both off to the hardware store to get an electrical socket for my mother's house - her CFI socket died and the sprinklers aren't working.

Tomorrow, I coach rugrat #2 in soccer.

Wednesday is my only non-sports day.   Cool!

Just a little reminder...

DRL = Daytime Running Lights

As in they will only be on when your vehicle is in drive...

Yep, a lot of people throw it and park, go look, and no lights. But the DRLs will only be on in gear. That is the normal functioning. Try the e-brake (if yours does anything) or use a window to see your reflection.

I have seen some 03-06 Av's with the DRL's on with the truck in park just like my 02. Is there a way to make this happen here?

Assuming I do the 5 diode install, what happens at night with the normal low beams?

By the way, GREAT job.

At night with normal low beams, you will have your low beams, parking lights and daytime running lights on. You will still be able to select fogs.

Thanks again. Now just one more question. When I had my '05 I did the FTDRL and All On hih mod with the diode(s) on the BOTTOM of the fuse box. When I got my '06 I duplicated it.  If I do the new mod should I undo the mod on the underside first?

Thanks for all the help!

Uhhh, yeah. But if you already have FTDRL and All-On-High, why redo it with this method?

Because the FTDRL doesn't work like it did in my '05. I just went outside and tested all possible combinations and here are the results.

DAYTIME

Normal  DRLS are on.  if I turn on Fogs, fogs come on and Parking lights as well.
Turned of fogs and added HIGH BEAMS (arm forward),Only the DRLs are on. Nuttin' else.
If I FLASH the high beam s  I get all four head lights on but drls go off. Now for night time.

NIGHT TIME

Head lights on and Parking lights are on but NO DRLS If I hit the Fog lights they come on as well.
Turn on high beams and only High Beams and Parking  Lights are on. Headlites go OFF.
But if I Flash the High beams, I get all four  on and Parking lites as well.

Ya'all think something's wrong?    Huh  Help me!

Now you know why I asked about removing the underside diodes first. I think I just answered my own question.

Sounds like a couple of the diodes are backwards.  I would check those first.

This is my next mod to the '04, but has anyone done this that lives around Wichita, KS area? I hate to go to Radio Shack to purchase a 50 count box of diodes just to use 5 of them. I would gladly pay for them if someone here would mail me some or if near Wichita area I could meet up and get them.  Cool!

Has the increased power draw shortened anyone's stock alternator life yet? Would that be an issue?

Lurch, no issues with my stock alternator...  I did have my stock battery go out, but that was my fault (I think)...  too much playing the stereo without the AV running while doing other mods.

The diodes are small, so I don't think they would draw too much power anyway.  They don't control the actual bulbs, just the relays that activate the bulbs.  You should be OK.

the pack i got from radio shack only had about 10 i think. enough for me to do the mod and have enough spares for messing up...  i think they were only a buck and some change.

I think I got the 10-pack too.  I found some other uses for the ones that were left over (more mods!)

Cool! Thanks all for the input, I will check out RS tomorrow and get some diodes and shrink tubing then. (will have pics when done)

OK, finally got around to do the lights. I had the shutter speed way fast to cut some glare off of the lights for the front pics.

And like I asked if anyone had 4 or 5 spares to pass my way if possible.....all RS had was a 50 count pack (lucky me) and I will be glad to share these leftovers with the next guy/gal that just wants 4 or 5 while they last! Maybe then the over abundance of these can go to good uses and not get trashed or sit on a shelf for no reason.

Send me a name and address if you want some 1N914-Type Diodes P/N 276-1620.

Thanks, Eric
