A quick reminder to everyone ...

Make sure your custom Avatar does not exceed 30K and your Signature does not exceed 30K.  

You can check their sizes by right-clicking on the images and looking at their properties. Please resize and/or compress any which exceed these limits.  

The size for the Avatar should be 100 x 100 pixels and the Signature should not exceed 510 x 100 pixels.

This will help improve our performance/loading times.  I have come across some that were over 260K!

Lately we have seen several member avatar's above the 30k limit and it is becoming unmanageable for the moderators to personally remind each member who is over the limit to reduce the file size.

So please check your avatar and fix as required.

So I have corrected the above two post to reflect the new 30k limit for avatars....

I hope you understand and this subject should be clear now....thanks to those who pointed out a few things in various threads to me.....

Please double check the size of your signature picture....We are seeing many pictures that exceed our size limit as dictated in the first post of this thread.

The avatars section in the admin tools is (or was when I set it up) to automagically resize images that were bigger pixelwise or filesize wise to comply with the specified parameters...  Quite cool me thinks.

In lieu of this might be better to put your sig in your album and then insert URL into your sig...as an img tag....

We remove or edit sig pics over 500 pixel wide or 100 pixel tall and/or exceed 30kb...

I suggest you double check yours to ensure it does not exceed our limits...

Little Reminder for everyone since I have been removing those that exceed these limits.....

please check yours out to see if it complies...

As for avatars the big issue is file size.... right click yours and select properties...make sure it is under 30720 bytes or 30kB

As for sig pics biggest offense is exceeding our 100 pixel height limit.....

So if you find you have lost your sig pic or avatar...more then likley it exceeded our limits...and was removed...

To put pic in your sig:

Maximum total file size is 30kB
Maximum total picture width is 510 pixel
Maximum total picture height is 100 pixel

Store it in your personal CAFCNA photo album...

See this thread for info on setting that up: How to use the Album (Gallery) & info

then go to your profile and select Forum Profile Information

Scroll down to the signature part...

type in what ya want for text.

and to have a pic...

where URL for pic can be found by right clicking pic in your album and selecting Properties and then cut and pastw the ENTIRE address(URL)

if you see the following in your Sig:

Sig Pic removed Exceeded file size limit of 30Kb

Your Sig pic file size was too big and removed.

If we have to remove it a second time you will lose Sig privileges for a period of time.
If we have to remove it a third time you will lose posting privileges...


Large Sig pics slow things down for everyone...

So be courteous to your fellow member and check your Sig file size...

Check your avatar as well as max file size is the same 30KB.

If everyone kept the Sig and avatar under 30KB the site would speed up a bit.

Size of 30kb & 510x100pixel is for the sum total of any pictures linked to by using the img code.

the whole sig is limited to certain number of characters as well...

I can understand the 510X100 limit on Sig files because they could easily end up 200px wide and totally ruin the look and layout of the forum, the part I'm unclear on is the need for a 30K limit on them, they are linked from an outside source so i can't see it being a bandwidth issue.

I'll be the first to admit, this is a completely selfish question, notice how the 67k banner is nice and sharp but the compressed jpg in the sig is kind of...not?

Since they only look different when viewed side by side, whoever builds them is really the only person who notices anyway. It doesn't matter but

If everyone had a huge sig and you open a large thread it could take a long long time to open...

yes you can turn off seeing peoples sigs and avatars but some dial up users may want to see...
