I can understand the 510X100 limit on Sig files because they could easily end up 200px wide and totally ruin the look and layout of the forum, the part I'm unclear on is the need for a 30K limit on them, they are linked from an outside source so i can't see it being a bandwidth issue.

I'll be the first to admit, this is a completely selfish question, notice how the 67k banner is nice and sharp but the compressed jpg in the sig is kind of...not?

I see the difference (big time)..........

wonder if possible supporting membership might allow link to member album with slightly larger sig files with same size banner. Grin

'course DougD's is trying to have a little vacation time in NYC........  Cool

Since they only look different when viewed side by side, whoever builds them is really the only person who notices anyway. It doesn't matter but
I've been curious about the subject for quite awhile and this seemed as good a time as any to ask.

Reason for file size limit of sigs and avatars is to speed up the forums for those on dial up.

If everyone had a huge sig and you open a large thread it could take a long long time to open...

yes you can turn off seeing peoples sigs and avatars but some dial up users may want to see...

Everyone please abide by these file and pixel size rules....

The limit has been so since 2002.

If Onstar can cut loose a few million people with analog service systems we can inconvenience the 4 people still using dial up love

 Just kidding

My across the street neighbor still has dial-up, I enjoy sending them huge files.

I always abide by the size limits, even on the front page banners which are apparently immune from the 30K rule

If for some reason you find your avatar or Sig pic missing.....

MORE then likely it is because the file size exceeded our size limits .....and we deleted it....

MAX file size for avatar and sigs is 30K....

please check yours by right clicking on it...and hitting properties......

THANKS

reminder since some do not read entire thread

Reminder to all..

There is a new policy on signatures and avatars and the custom text field under the avatars.

First read this thread about size restrictions:

Signature And Avatar Sizes

They shall be Rated G.  That is No sexually explicit material, No curse words, No violence, etc.

The moderators and admins will be sending PMs to those out of line and requesting you to change them.

Remember this is a family site with children and family reading the forums.

Thank You for your cooperation.

A quick reminder to everyone ...

Make sure your custom Avatar does not exceed 30K and your Signature does not exceed 30K.

You can check their sizes by right-clicking on the images and looking at their properties. Please resize and/or compress any which exceed these limits.

The size for the Avatar should be 100 x 100 pixels and the Signature should not exceed 510 x 100 pixels.

This will help improve our performance/loading times.  I have come across some that were over 260K!

Thanks for your cooperation.

Feel free to ask me or the Moderators any questions.

goo929

A friendly reminder to everyone. Please check your avatar and siggy for file size.
