Rear Seat Audio Controls w/Aftermarket HU & PAC OS-3BOSE
«

I apologize if I asking a question already answered. I tried searching for an answer but wasn't able to find anything.
I am thinking about adding an aftermarket HU to my 2007 w/BOSE and Rear Seat Entertainment. I'm planning on using a PAC OS-3BOSE or equivalent interface to the GMLAN. I understand that if my new HU does not support dual zone, I will not have be able to switch sources with my Rear Audio Controls.
My question is if I add a HU that does not support dual zone:
1) Will I still be able to use my Rear Seat Audio Controls for volume, FF,RW,Skip controls?
2) Will the rear speakers still mute when the Rear Seat Audio Controls are turned on?
3) Will my wireless headphones work?
4) Has anyone installed a PAC OS-3BOSE interface w/Rear Seat Entertainment and has this setup working well?
Thanks, in advance.

Thanks for the info gmgeek. I called a tech at PAC Audio as well and confirmed that the rear audio controls would work with both single and dual zone head units but you need the steering wheel control module. With a single zone HU you won't get the option to switch sources.

As for the earlier GMT800 premium system models, the RSA used the rear audio outputs from the HU, interupting the low-level rear speaker circuit to the amp. When it was active, the HU's rear audio out would set to a fixed level and the RSA volume controls would set the level(s) for the headphones.
The Delphi HU's are dual source switchable for the front & rear outputs.
Aftermarket equipment would need to duplicate the Delphi's audio routing and communicate with the RSA's volume controls in order to maintain the OEM functionality.

For some reason, the PAC OS3 PDF didn't work with my (updated) PDF reader.

Hi Sperry & All,
Thanks for the good info on how the GM dual zone units work. I actuallyed called PAC Audio and they said that the Rear Audio Controls would work as long as I have the steering wheel control unit (i.e. it would work through the IR remote integration).
Re: dual zone head units -- I've seen several aftermarket ones but I'm not clear on how they would integrate to the rear audio controls. Can you also validate my assumptions:
1) How would I hook up the unit? From the online install guides (pdf)'s it seems they have both amplified wires for the 4 speakers (FR,FL,RR,RL) as well as pre-amp RCA's for front and rear audio out. Would I hook up to the wires or to the RCA's or to both?
2) Is the "SRC or Source" control something that is specific to only dual zone heads or will regular units have this button/control as well?
3) Is there a difference between the HU SRC control vs the rear seat audio control SRC? Assuming the HU and steering wheel SRC controls the pre-amp outputs to the front RCA jacks and the rear seat audio SRC controls the rear speaker pre-amp outputs (RCA jacks).
4) If there is only one source control, how this this work? How is the SRC from the rear control distinguished between the src from the front HU? I'm specifically wondering how this works from the PAC steering wheel control (i.e. are there two or one src buttons on the remote)?
Thanks, Duane
