PRESA25 - unfortunately, the SWI-X will only work with the 1995-2002 vehicles. The new radios and wiring for 2003 makes all our current interfaces void for the 2003's. PAC and PIE both are working on units for the new radios, but nothing is out yet. They are pretty slow when it comes to releasing new products.
I don't expect to see much until April or May.
I've also heard that many radio shops are not removing the stock radios for the 2003's.  I've also heard you can't remove it because it is a key part of the vehicle now. I'm still trying to get good info on this, but maybe you could share with us once you get your truck back.

I am getting the truck back today so I will see what excatly I lose with the nav system. At least there will be something out in a few months to bring back some of the functions that I lose. I will give you guys an update this afternoon.

Well I went to show my install guy a print out pic of the SWI-X and it seems he was way ahead of me and already installed it. I guess it does work for the '03 and seems to be a pretty great product. As far as the navagition system goes it is a little overwhelming trying to figure this thing out Huh It would be better if stuff was a little more user friendly. Maybe ill get used to it. I also have the snakeeyes backup camara hooked up to the unit, another fantastic product. I ended up having the screen mounted up were the head unit was. I mounted the nav-dvd in the cubby hole below. I will post some pics when I get a hold of my buddys camara. Thanks for all the help guys.

The nav unit is a bit undaunting at first. The way to use it remember that it is menu driven. On the remote press the NAV button and go thru the menus . With some practice you will pick it up.  I am still learning more about the unit every day. If you have any questions about the unit post it here and we will help you.

I agree with Aegis....

I've had mine about 2 months now and am still learning.  Just get use to the basics and learn the more advanced features as you go.

I do not, YET, have a backup camera so I don't have much input about that part.

I really like it and think it was worth every penny.

Hello Presa25,
One of the cooler things about the Pioneer System is that it is so adjustable. This means that it is also somewhat complicated. I'll agree that they probably could have made it much more user friendly but half the fun is finding out the new stuff that it can do. Did you get a bevel mount for you DVD unit. I had to purchase mine separately but ended up with one that matches the interior better than the LCD screen unit bevel. Has anyone found out how to get the DVD movie to choose "feature Film" and then play via voice command only. So far I have struck out.

BJKIRK,
Sorry if I sound stupid but I am not sure what you mean by bevel.

BJKIRK,

 Hello Presa25,
I'm probably using the wrong term for it, so I'm probably the one being stupid. I should have said face plate. The beveled piece that surrounds the part of the DIN unit thats sticks out of the dash. I originally only had one for my LCD unit AVH-P6400. I wonder if there is a part number for the one that goes around the DVD unit AVIC-90DVD. The one I purchased was for a Pioneer DVD unit only. The clips didn't line up but it did fit and with a little adhesive putty it holds on the unit without any problems.

BJKIRK,
I actually did not need a face plate for the dvd unit. I am not sure if the interior changed for the '03. Looking at some other install pics I think I have an extra spot for cd's and stuff. The dvd/nav unit look like it fits right in there perfectly. I dont know how it it mounted in there but it looks like it was supposed to be there from the factory, no extra face plate.

Pics I need Pics Grin

Has anyone tried to install the unit in the lower section of the console where the door is that holds CDs? I have yet to transfer my unit from my Ford to the Avalanche. I want to make certain how I want things put in and what additional components I will be adding. My thought has been to see if I can install the Nav unit from the rear of the CD storage compartment. I thought if I could keep the existing flip cover, it would allow me to keep the unit out of site and just open the door when needed.

I have a question for those of you that already have this unit. Does the navigation have voice promps like turn by turn and how close you are getting to your destination? Also does it tell you where gas stations and resturants are located while you are driving along the road? Thanks

Yes to all of you questions, voice prompts, expanded view on turns, you can check for gas stations and restaurants etc-etc.  It is a great unit. It also show mileage and time to destination.

I got my new HU installed today. It is the Pioneer 6.5" LCD with CD. I know a couple of you have this with ONstar. I used the box that JP Customs sells. My Onstar work fine, but I can not control the volume. The volume on the HU tuner and XM are ok, but when I turn the volume either direction, it does not change Onstar. How does it work on yours? Suggestions? Thanks.

I could be wrong but I believe the OS-1 has an adjustable volume. Meaning whoever installed it adjusted it (or not) to what level they found comfortable. The adjustment is on the OS-1 itself which is now probably hidden in your dash. I do not believe it can be adjusted by your after market HU. I will know in the next couple of weeks when I do my install. Lets wait and see who has done this and can give a more certain answer.

I think I have the OS-1 and the volume is adjustable on the HU for Onstar. I have not had a problem with with the Onstar interface or volume.

Does anyone know if there is an updated DVD Map for the AVIC-90DVD?

I was browsing around on the Pioneer Website and noticed this AVIC-80DVD and it has a RED DVD disk where mine is GREEN.  I'm wondering if this is a newer/updated version.

Hello Avalanche Rookie,
From what I read it just has the touch screen capability. I really wouldn't use the touch screen if I had it, so I can't imagine needing to upgrade the disc or head unit or Nav unit. The map # is the same CNDV-21. I wouldn't be suprised the price for the Nav-Sys 900 doesn't drop drastically now that there is an upgraded system.

Hi bjkirk.....I hope life is treating you well.

I would just like to have an updated map.  We have ALOT of construction going on here in Indy and there are new roads and intersections not present on the map.

I wonder if another DVD mapping software would work. hhhmmmmmmm

I finally got a reply from Pioneer today.

Here is what they had to say......"This disc (the CNDV-20) was released in 2001. The updated disc is scheduled to release, tentative the end of this year."
