Well for Avalanche owners... only one year of truck, the 2002 model, will be affected. All 2003 and newer trucks can upgrade to digital onstar. I know, because I got a digital onstar unit from a wreck for $50 and installed it myself. Works great!

What did you have to do after you installed it to activate it?  I have a 2005 where the VCIM has suffered a break down and keeps telling me the "Phone is unavailable".     Onstar says take it to a dealer.     The dealer tells me it will cost $395.   00 to replace.     Yet '03 & '04 can be upgraded with 3 year contract.     Twenty-eight months life for such an intergal piece of equipment is lousy.     Oh and the dealer says due to integration of the VCIM the voice cannot be turned off! :E:

Thanks for any help.

Yet '03 & '04 can be upgraded with 3 year contract.

The '04 can be upgraded with a one year contract and a $15 fee.

Limitless MPG.  Just point the Avalanche toward your destination, wait for the earth to shift on it's axis, walk to the other end, and you're there!
