Last Monday evening I had the hard tonneau covers stolen on my Av.   The tailgate lock was "punched" to gain access.   I've heard of several other AV owners experiencing this particular theft but haven't seen any posts on it.   What's up with this?  They are expensive to replace costing nearly $900 for each segment.    Beware - park near lights, travelled areas.   I'm looking into a "jimmie jammer" for the tailgate lock to hopefully deter this kind of thing.

There is a "jimmy jammer" for the tailgate, I remember seeing it when I was looking at the ones for the doors.

First,  Welcome! to the club ledford  Welcome!

Sorry to hear this bad news. This is the first case of this in AZ that I have heard of not saying that it has not happened before thou.

Where abouts did this happen ?

Start checking Craig's list ASAP cause that seems to be the place to unload stolen goods anymore.

gargoyleman - this happened along the Price corredor in Chandler.   The security guards at my building had warned me 3 weeks previously that they were being stolen in the parking lots up and down Price.   Then I heard of two other folks whose avalanches had this happen not on Price.  You're right about craigs list.  There's 3 or 4 sets for sale there currently.   $250 is the highest price which is odd given that they cost 2700 to replace.

The sad thing is that they'll wind up on another Av.  Hope the guy that swiped 'em doesn't have one...

Welcome! To the club and let me add my $ .02 worth. I am so darn sorry that happened to you and the miserable person that stoops this low certainly could not be an Av owner. At least not a good one. Hopefully your insurance will take care of this and yes I would get that guard put on. This seems to be a new wave among thieves I was warned by my agent that it is common. This is one thing I have never understood is someones willingness to steal anything.

That would be a GREAT idea.  Maybe the last six digits of the VIN, which nobody else would have. It would tie those panels to one truck.  "Stealth Mod".

I'm sorry to hear that! If there is one thing I really HATE it is thieves, people work hard for what they have! I've always been afraid of this happening to my truck since they cost so much! I think today is a good day to hook my alarm up to my tailgate!

My #2-3 panels have a ring about the size of a garbage can lid, #1 has a bad spot too. I posted before & after photos on here when I treated them with Something Better. It's almost impossible to detect the ring after I treat the panels, almost.

That sucks..
I wonder if this a problem on the 07-08 since the general got rid of the keyhole...
I would love to put a pit bull in the back and park it on that street and wait for that SOB..
or maybe a snake or two..

Imagine the look on the guys face if I found him selling my panels. I'd tell him I needed to go to the ATM, come back with the cops and my 17" laptop with 3008x2000 pixel photos showing the tell-tale ring on the panels proving they came off my truck. BUSTED!

I went and looked at my ava's back and I fail to see how they could get them off the 07 08's and then if they did mine I would know it if I found them for sale. My dealer showed me that they have some scan thing in all doors and other parts all over the new ones or at least they do here and if a door or top etc is stolen and reported they can scan them now. Not sure how this works but they did say they were not removable either so the new avs are fairly safe from thieves . I hope he is right.
