Yndio,
I have waited all this time to reply to your "revival"...

That's because even before you posted your question, we had plans for our N-1 that for one reason or another had to wait until a couple weeks ago to complete...
Yes we still have our N-1 and now love it even more than before...

We have updated to the 70MT software and I must tell you that the maps for us (West) make all the difference in the world...
They now contain ALL the updated addresses and road changes that we have been missing...AND...the software upgrades are incredible as well...
It's like having a completely new Nav...the 70MT software (I am told) upgrades the N-1 to the equivalent of the N-3
You not only get new "skins" to choose from in the software, but can upload your own pics/graphics for background use in the Audio and Navi sections. I made and uploaded about 20 photos and graphic designs onto the N-1 and now have my own custom backgrounds...a different one in each section (Audio/Navi) and the ability to change them when I want.
We did NOT do the work ourselves...rather used a service though ebay...and had the following done to our N-1 for a total of only $275.00
1. Had the flex cable (the one Pioneer has extended the warranty on) replaced with a Mil Spec piece which is supposedly much better than stock..also Pioneer supposedly only replaces with the same one used in initial production when you take advantage of their warranty extension program. Ours never broke but we figured it was going to
2. Had them install the 70MT software ("pirate" / torrent copy) and supply us with both East & West discs
3. Had them replace the micro LEDs in the face plate and on the flip screen to our choice of color (we chose teal...but they do a variety of colors)
4. Had them do the bypass which allows Nav/DVD functions same as with the original 40MT discs with the park brake "bypass" ( you still need the park brake ground bypass along with the soldering of the two circuits)...
There are LOTS of folks who have done the solder bypass themselves...Lots have succeeded...lots have ruined their units...we chose NOT to use my limited soldering abilities on such delicate printed circuit boards and instead have the work done by a "pro"...
I think for $275 we came out just fine, considering the software alone through Pioneer is $240
Now having said all that...
1. You can get good "copies" of the 70MT software for about $20 from "buy it now" ebayers...some are better than others according to reported feedback...
2. I can give you a link to a "torrent site" which has the 70MT software you can download if you have a Dual Layer DVD recorder and discs...you may need other software to do this properly
3. If you got "skillz" you may want to try the solder bypass yourself...I can post a picture of the circuit board location if you want.
4. If you want a referral to where/who did our N-1 I can give you that info as well...he does GREAT work with a VERY FAST turn around time...although he is an Ebayer I contacted him by phone and discussed exactly what I wanted done and got the price mentioned (which included one way shipping = back from him)...
EDIT: Oh and all his work comes with a One Year Warranty...
and he is a REAL PERSON with a REAL PHONE #...

My only problem would be to be without the stereo for X amount of time. how long did it take from the point of sending it to receiving??
I am very interested bro.
