Talking about CO2 levels, you'll love this story...

The eucalyptus tree has been around for 250 million years and exists today almost as it did then.  Fossils have been discovered and considerable research has been done in comparing the samples to today's variety.

What they know is the plant exists by absorbing CO2.  What they found, in the dino age variety, the eucalyptus leaf had 25 receptors to absorb CO2.  Today's variety has only 5.  Which means, during the dino age, there was a significantly higher CO2 concentration.

I wonder what happened?  Do you think there was a "Al (Gore) The Environmental Caveman" telling his bogus stories by the campfire?

Big laughter with tears Big laughter with tears Don't you love how the media hypes stuff up and people believe it and will not do their own research ? Now they are telling us the Polar bear is going to be extinct when in fact their are far greater numbers of the man killing beasts today then in 1960. Again global warming to blame. How many remember the coming of the Ice age back in the 70's and 80's lol. Oh and Calif going to have a major quake before 2000  and fall off in the ocean. Rof all it takes is a little search for facts and you can blow these beliefs right in the trash can with the rest of the stuff geared to scare people into buying useless junk. I am going to drive my big gas guzzling AV no matter what it is said to do to the environment which is bull because the emissions coming from the tail pipe these days is most likely cleaner then the air in your home.

Media "hype" driven by a political agenda and Hollywood "hooplah" whose voices didn't even finish high school or they follow the teachings of Scientology, or talk to aliens, and now. we have "Hussein" running for president.

As William Bendix use to say in "The Life of Riley".....what a revolting development this is!

I know this thread is a year since its last post, but I am still discovering new threads.  Cheesy
I am with many others that I would not trade my AVY for anything. BUT....
How about this.

The 2009 Colorado 4 door with a midgate and sail panels. could easily be done. I like the name Land slide.  Big laughter with tears

GM already makes a nice mid sized truck that sort of resembles an Avalanche-it even has a turbo diesel.

Only downside is driving it here from Brazil.

Modified!

Spring Hill Assembly is rumoured to be going back online to build-among other things, a Lambda based Avalanche type midsized truck  Thumbs up!

Now gentleman, we have to be good stewards to this earth that the good lord gave us.  That being said, my Avalanche gets pretty good gas milage for a vehicle so large.   When and if Chevy or anyone else makes a vehicle that can do the things an avalanche can do, in a smaller more environmentally friendly way, I will be first in line to buy one.   I'll be sure to where a coat as well because that day will be one cold day.

The new full sized GM line with the avanced fuel technology gets a lot better than 15 city, 18 highway. With my 08 Silverado, I pull down 18 in the city and 22 on the highway. Same drivetrain as the new Avy's.

I think midsized Avy's would lend itself to production suicide. It would split owners and leave a bunch of both full and mid size on the lot. Eventually they would go away. I don't think there is enought market for both models. One or the other and I couldn't stand to part with the full size models. They have too much going on to share.

. . . and by the way . . . that brazillian mid size is a horrible looking POS.

I don't think for a minute the bail out money will go into getting this into production.

chevy  If done right, and that's a big IF, a V6, midsize Avi could be pretty nice.  chevy

The 3.6 V6 makes 300+ HP in the CTS and Camaro, and although the midsize Avi would be heavier than those, it could still get decent mileage and help with CAFE help appease the greenies.

I just love my FULLSIZE '08 LTZ Avi. Coolest looking and most versatile vehicle I've ever owned!

Just my $.02

You might have a point here, I just rented the camaro and I was very surprised at the power and MPG the V6 had. If I were to buy the Camaro I would fine with the V6, so with that said, it may do the job well in a midsize AC.

Since GM announced this month that the Avalanche will be discontinued by 2013, a midsize, more fuel efficient variant may be the only hope left.  I think I would be content with a 300 hp V6 if that were going in a smaller AV type vehicle with 4 doors and midgate.   After all, my '04 5.3 is only rated at 295hp.

It's already on the way, from what I understand this thing has a midgate:

Based on the first-ever G8 performance sedan, the Pontiac G8 sport truck is a revolutionary design with a bold new attitude.

The G8 sport truck is power: 6.0L engine. 361hp. Able to haul more than a 1,300-pound payload** and tow a 3,500-pound trailer***. And when it's not towing anything, it does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. No other vehicle combines power and torque like this vehicle.

But power isn't the only the thing the G8 sport truck is about — it also boasts of a design with attention to detail. From its one-piece outer body panel to wraparound tail lamps to fully concealed tailgate hinges, all crafted to make the vehicle for you. Available late 2009.

I guess THIS is a moot point, eh?

Just can't imagine it happening. We've lost the 6.0L already and with the smaller diesel on hold the Av will likely be gone before it ever gets back online. Of course I'd love a 2500 Av with the 4.5L Duramax, but I'm afraid it will have to stay in my dreams.
