Hello all... I just completed the AMP Bypass mod this evening ( without using the adapters ) and the sound tends to fade out, but not completely out.  Did i do something wrong when i completed the Mod or could it be the head unit overheating thus fading the sound.  Now when i shut the unit off and wait for a for a few seconds then turn it back on, the sound comes in good and clear.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK I have to ask what is a AMP bypass Mod in a 02 AV. I assume you have a 02 by your screen name Huh

it's where you are by passing the factory amplifier for the stereo.  From previous posts regarding this mod, it sounds 100% better.  And yes i have an 02 Av.

In '02 models there is a small amplifier behind the glove box. Well, they call it an amplifier, but it's more of a sound distorter and muffler. I don't know why it's there, but if you take it out of the loop, and bypass the wires around it, it sounds much better. Basically, it's a speaker level amplifier, so you connect all of the speaker inputs to the corresponding speaker outputs, bypassing the amp altogether.

As far as I can tell, it's a holdover from the Suburban, which in addition to the door speakers has tweeters in the A pillars, and a subwoofer in the side panel behind the rear seat (where we have the side-saddle lock boxes.) The amplifier then acts as a crossover for those speakers. But the Av has none of the additional speakers, so the amplifier is basically useless and hurts the sound more than it helps.

Yes, I bypassed the amp in my '02 Av, and it was a big improvement.

Last mods: Removed brush guard and installed tow bar, braking system, and lights to drag the Av behind a motorhome.
The Av can now tow or be towed.

I'm curious as to how you bypassed the "AMP" without using the Adapter\Connector.
I bypassed mine using the Metra connector and haven't had one bit of a problem.

Basically what I did was looked at the setup and looked at the harness.  The I unplugged the speaker connector from the amp and made a jumper wire to the corresponding + / -  wires ( the A1 to A9.. etc ).  While doing so, the stereo is playing and once I got the sound to play from the corresponding speaker, clipped both wires, labeled them and connected them together.  The two wires I had remaining were the Orange wire and the Purple wire from the harness.  The only harness i have connected it the stereo harness from the HU. As stated previously, it sounds terrific for like 15 minutes then the sound fades without completely going out.  One thing i forgot to mention is that the HU does get a little warm, but i figured it is normal.
