It's been nine years since I joined this forum, and though I haven't been too active, I have indeed had a lot of help from the forums over the years with maintaining my Avalanche. SInce I live in Michigan, we contend with the corrosive effects of salt; Most of the Avalanches around here are now suffering as as a result. Mine was no exception, with rust-through in the lower rockers just in front of the rear wheel, and also in the rear fender just after of the rear wheel. Fenderwells have stayed solid. I make sure to keep the car clean as much as possible during winter. I went out and bought some new steel rockers, steel patch panels for the front fender area, and steel for the rear fender area (I believe it was a Suburban or a Yukon spec sheet metal) and had them welded in this year. All up, about $5000 worth of steel repair and paint. While everything was opened up, we started spraying corrosion-preventing wax into the rocker panels, and I also used rust converter on the frame, and followed up with some rustoleum black on all black painted surfaces, and red on the underside. One area of concern is the brake lines. They look like they will need replacing sometime soon.

The Avalanche now has 140,000 miles on it. I also decided as part of the spruce up to change out the factory stereo since the CD was glitchy, and replace it with a new Kenwood system that is bluetooth enabled. I also have a backup camera to install later this fall. I'm looking for some new wheels I think, and then take these wheels and mount some winter tires on them. Sitting on the garage floor is a fresh, never started LQ9 6.0 liter engine with LS3 heads and a slightly bigger cam. The engine was initially bought to install into my Trans Am, but I think I may want to invest in an aluminum block 427 LS for the T/A, meaning that this engine could go into the Avalanche instead. Since I generally tow an 7200 pound camper trailer, I really could use that extra 100 horsepower. Another option is to put in a rear-mount turbocharger in lieu of the muffler? I haven't decided yet. I think the N/A 6.0 motor might be the better way to go, since it'll be just a direct bolt in. All I'd have to do is maybe swap the cam for a more towing-specific grind.

Anyway, Here's my Michigan Avalanche, which has survived 13 winters, and ten seasons of camper towing.

Hope you enjoy!
