Finally replaced the front bumper cover.  It was cracked when I bought the Avalanche.  & years ago I found one for $100 and just  never got around to putting it on.

Replaced the tranny rear seal for the driveshaft spline. Funny the new one from Autozone has an additional rubber seal protruding onto the shaft. Seems work just fine. Took about 20 minutes to do.

sold it to my son in law. He just re-enlisted and he was assigned a post 300 miles away. We couldn't find an affordable manual trans for his Silverado in time.  Much more reliable and he can lock his stuff up.

Changed the fuel pump in the wife's Avalanche. She asked me if she parked in my way. I said "No, I can move it if it is.".... once I changed the pump, I could move it... ugg
She was helpful, said it was acting weird all day... when I had the hood up. Took longer to decide it was the pump than to fix it, thanks to the hatch in it.. and a spare pump on the shelf ... that's paid off a few times....

Having the leaking rear main seal addressed today.

Opted to go ahead and replace the entire rear main seal back plate since it was leaking, as well.

The whole assembly is not too expensive and the local dealer stocked a bunch of them on the shelf.

It comes with new seals, gaskets and new bolts.

The dealer parts guy said most people that are doing this repair generally just replace the entire assembly and I prefer this anyway.

I figured it can't hurt and I am not interested in having to go back in there later.

Do it now and be done with it.

I am also replacing the old OEM plastic oil galley dumbbell with a new billet aluminum piece with much tighter clearances.

If the billet piece gives us any problems during it's fitting, I have a new OEM plastic dumbbell to use instead.

I am not interested in my mechanic having to do any machining to make the billet piece fit and I've seen one YouTube video where a guy had to do so because of the extra tight clearances of the billet piece.

If the billet piece will fit in nicely, then that is the way I am going, otherwise the new plastic piece is going in.

I am doing this because of the condition of the o-ring on the oil pick up tube I had replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Both of these o-rings are most likely the original pieces and the pick up tube o-ring had gone bad and was letting my idle oil pressure drop dangerously low.

I don't know if changing the oil galley dumbbell with it's old o-ring will make any difference, but as long as we are there, what the heck.

At any rate, the rear main seal and back place showed to be the last place where I have any oil leaking, so hopefully, this will complete this project.

We used a UV dye in the oil to pinpoint this last leak.

Interestingly, the oil leak was not visible when looking through the access port in the bell housing before we added the dye and looked at the area again with the UV light.

That whole area kept looking dry every time we looked.

But I still had a leak on the ground that was about 5% of what it had been before we changed the entire oil pan a while back to fix the buggered up oil cooler ports.

I am hoping this is the last time we are going to have to attempt to fix this ongoing issue.

I am tired of leaving oil spots everywhere I park.

Installed the DZ TailGate assist on my 2013 today. Works great but the threaded insert into the tailgate needs some improvement.

I don't want to jinx things, but after a 200 mile road trip and sitting over a piece of cardboard in the garage overnight, it would appear that the oil leaks have finally been fixed.

I'll keep checking, but it is looking good so far.

What a long and difficult road this has been.

Finally changed out the ambient light sensor on the dash. And since I had the dash out I did some touch up painting on it and removed the cubby hole and made a cover plate to house the sub control and the 1500 watt inverter control.

They take a test strip and dip it in the tranny fluid then compare it to a chart. I'm not sure what they are testing for.

First I have seen of this. I usually smell and look at the color of the fluid to determine if it needs a change. Thanks for the info.

Probably to show that you need a flush.  Thing is I know the last time I got a flush done, and its well within the kms before I need a new one.

I have read a lot of discussions on the when to get a trans flushed, but I would think it would depend on the condition of the fluid and not just miles or age of fluid. I believe if someone pulls a trailer or is more abusive to the truck that may warrant an earlier service than say a truck that has seen lite duty. JMO

I do pull a trailer for camping, and on a regular basis for our acerage to haul water.  Every 2 weeks its 3-4 loads at 6000 lbs

Do I do it to often, or not enough.  Not sure.  Truck is 6 years old and has never gave me grief.  And to be honest, Im tired of trying to follow other peoples right way, because for everyone right way is another person disagreeing with them anyway.  For decades now Ive done regular maintenance and fluid flushes on any truck, car or mini van I have owned according to the manual.  And I have yet to ever break down.

Is it becaue of that, or just luck.  Dont know.
