Finally got around to getting mud flaps installed on the 2009.
Just in time for the winter salty slushy road mess.

Which ones did you go with??

I still can't decide... WeatherTech or GM...

I need to do something soon. I'll probably try to pick them up while I'm in Florida.

I can order the GM flaps in Summit White, and I thought about it until I saw a set installed... Definitely looked cooler in my head!!

I noticed that when I aw it online. The specs are something like 42 long but only 35.7 wide. The smittybilt one I am going to try to get is 48 by 48. Which is why I want one so I can mount a full spare up there along with bigger light bars. I am also considering building my own with the same mounting kit that comes with the smittybilt so that way I can mount them wherever I want. And for the spare I would put a tire cover on it and also a y strap to hold it down. Plus if I make my own I can make it wide enough to be able to put an solid 1/8 inch plate across the front at an angle that is slightly wider than the rack itself so I can mount a 50 inch bar straight to the rack instead of onto the roof

the thing is tho, those demensions are outside dem. The inside width is only 30. I think im gonna take it to a fab shop, see what itll cost to widen it 6-8 inches. I think thats the only reason i dont like it. It needs to be wider. It looks so small up there. If the fab work costs toomuch, ill probably get the yakima rack.

I assume you had a clear guard and painted the inside??

That was my original intention for Ava, but the cost of the guard and paint kept making me put it off... But this looks great (even better than I thought it would.

I am picking up a black WeatherTech on the weekend, I think I'll just Plasti-Dip the front white and put it on for protection this winter and do the clear painted white in the spring.

Treated it like an RC car body, so yes painted the inside of a clear guard. I got the clear guard for $55 and free shipping from autoanything (had a coupon and hit a special) and the paint was $30 after shipping from express paint(had to order as the color cannot be gotten unless from a paint supply house). Still plenty of paint left for something else as well.

Well today I put together my winter "survival" tote. Of all the years living here in Michigan I have never had a need to use anything in it, it's nice to have just in case.

Money may not buy happiness, but I'd rather cry in my Avalanche than on a bus.

Thanks B!! I'd like to see one of the OEM ones before I drop the duckets on it.

For now I'll stick with the WeatherTech (gonna pick it up tomorrow in Royal Oak for 25 bux)  and I've already got a couple cans of white Plasti Dip.

so whats all in there?

I have a spare pair of hunting boots, insulated gloves, wool blanket, folding camp shovel, hand warmers, a Coleman SportCat catalytic heater w/2 1lb propane bottles, 750 watt power inverter w/various connectors, 8 x 8 tarp, LED flashlight w/ spare batteries, matches/disposable lighter, box of cat litter, bottled water and a container of trail mix.

Other things I carry in a saddlebag all the time are various tools, tow strap and chain, knife, first aid kit and jumper cables. I'd say the majority of the time I'm helping out others who might be stranded, broken down, stuck...whatever. Being on a SAR team, my Av is loaded and ready to go 90% of the time. All I have to do is grab my pack and I can be on the road in less than 20 minutes.
