After trying to use 3M tape and it not holding, I finally got around to finding a good spot and using screws. I think it may hold this time.

Took mine out when I put my train horn CO2 cylinder in there.

Hopefully I never have to use it, but if I do, I hope it's for someone else.  ::)

Why not ditch the fan clutch and go e-fans like I did 3 years ago?

Why not ditch the fan clutch and go e-fans like I did 3 years ago?

Actually, I didn't even think about doing that conversion at the time.

No good reason not to, other than I wan't interested in putting any more effort into the project than buying the new fan clutch and tossing it on while I had things apart to replace the thermostat and lower radiator hose.

I was also pressed for time and needed to get this project finished fairly quickly.

The former fan clutch had been installed 100K miles ago when I first bought the truck, so I figured it would be a good time to freshen it up.

It would appear this was a good call, at least, since the a/c is colder now at idle than before the install.

The e-fans are still an option for a later mod.

The way I tend to forget things these days, maybe I should have a written to-do list for mods and such.

New oil pick up tube and o-ring to try to address some lower oil pressure issues. (This helped, but we still have lower pressure than in the past. Engine is probably just showing it's age.)

Replaced the "new" ACDelco "Professional" oil pressure sensor (less than a week old) when the sensor sprang a leak during the road test at maximum oil pressure at WOT and spewed a quart and a half of new Mobil 1 oil all over the fire wall and the rear of the engine.

The sensor itself was still mounted normally to the engine, but the plastic packing around the sensor electronics is where it blew out and began to spew the oil.

Even the connector lead was still in place.

Just no readings sent to the cluster and oil spewing past the plastic packing.

I have never had one do that before.

Interestingly, when the sensor blew out, the cluster gauge went to zero, but the computer never complained or gave any low oil pressure warning or went into any sort of limp mode.

The oil pump was still producing oil flow and pressure as the engine showed no signs of distress.

I was prepared to have the truck towed back to the shop, if anything sounded or felt wrong.

Ended up driving home the back way and changed out the bad oil sensor with the old one I had removed previously.

Oil pressure showed the same as before the other sensor had blown out, when I fired up the engine again.

I now just had a mess to clean up and I had to add a quart and a half of oil to top things off again.

I'm curious, does the engine computer receive oil pressure data from somewhere other than the oil pressure sensor mounted behind the intake?

I know there are three wires on that sensor.

Maybe one of those is the lead for the computer and that one remained intact while the one for the cluster gauge was broken during the blow out.

I don't know.

But at any rate, the computer appeared to be fine with the situation and was happy to let me continue to run the engine as if nothing was going on.

So much for buying supposedly upgraded parts, I suppose.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, who else would put a Supercharged 3.8 into a Pontiac Aztek.

That motor took my Bonneville SSEI up to 130 MPH, it would have gone further but it had a speed limiter.

3 wires are for the sensor.
1 = +VDC
2 = - VDC or ZERO Reference normally
3 = PRessure Signal

Thanks!

Strange that the computer did not seem to register the zero oil pressure condition that was showing on the cluster gauge.

When I put the old sensor back in, the cluster gauge began showing pressure again.

Took a 200 mile test drive and all is well.

Curious.

Who Knows? But I feel your pain. I don't have an answer but I would like to know too why the engine did not throw a code? WTH?

I ended up driving close to 10 miles along a slow back way home, listening carefully for any sign of a problem.

I heard none because there was no oil pressure issue, thank goodness.

Little did I know there was oil spewing out of the top of the sender unit.

Not until I got home, at least.

But the cluster gauge showed a dead flat zero oil pressure and it appears that was because the sensor went bust.

Curious thing about the DIC not complaining in the least.

I wonder if I had lost enough oil to trigger the oil level sensor, if I would have gotten a warning.

Thank goodness again I only lost 1 1/2 quarts of brand new fresh Mobil 1.

Outstanding!

I replaced all of my front leather and the driver's seat foam a couple of years ago with products from The Seat Shop.

I have enjoyed this more than any other thing I have ever done to my truck.

I hope you enjoy yours, as well!

Will have to check out the Seat Shop. Locally I've only used Sure Fit seat covers in Tacoma.
