This is my suggestion,

Cottage pricing and info...

These cottages feature heating; air-conditioning, open fireplace, color TV, two, four or six carpeted bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens with microwave, coffee maker and telephone.  They also include bed linens, bath towels and toiletries.
Hair dryers are NOT provided.

Off-season discounts until April 30.
I called to get prices for March 23-25.
Prices based on two-night stay, Friday til Sunday...

8 bedroom (is not subject to off-season discount)
$3046.39
$380.80 per room

6 bedroom  Jan 23 Update.... No six-bedroom cottages available March 23-25
$1352.37
$225.40 per room

4 bedroom
$856.79
$214.20 per room

You may prefer your own room at the lodge.
http://www.oglebay-resort.com/lodgerate.htm
465 Lodge Dr., Wheeling, WV 26003
The cost of a two night stay at the lodge is $352.08.
That is their cheapest two-night, two-person lodge room package.

I am willing to reserve the "Host" cottage for the usual Saturday evening "eating" provided there are enough participants to use up (and pay for) the rooms.
The 8 bedroom cottage is nice, but probably not worth the extra cost.
I hope we get enough people to require a 6 bedroom cottage, or better yet two or three cottages all near each other.

Feb 6 update
We have two cottages reserved.
GoldBowTie has reserved Speidel #2 and 02 Z71 has reserved Speidel #4
These are both four bedroom cottages.
They are the first two on the right when entering the Speidel Cottage section next to the Speidel Golf Club entrance.
Speidel Cottage #2 location
Speidel Cottage #4 location

Planned itinerary:

Friday arrival at your convenience.

Check-in is at 4:00, so we can't get into the cottages before that.
GoldBowTie and 02 Z71 will have to check in at Wilson Lodge.
All others can simply meet at the cottages.

Friday night dining options....

Saturday:

MAPLE SUGARING DAY- Hands-on, outdoor program that includes a nature walk, demonstrations of maple sugaring techniques, history of maple sugaring and a pancake breakfast with fresh maple syrup. 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The program begins in the woods behind Camp Russel, Oglebay. $6/$4 OI members. Call 304.242.6855 to reserve a time.
March 6 update:
We have reservations for 10 a.m.
The cost is $4/person - please pay GoldBowTie.
Park at Camp Russel.
The tour is an hour, then we eat after the tour.
Fair warning, if there has been rain, the tour could be muddy - spare shoes might be a good idea.

12:30 departure to cruise to Cabela's.
It will be nice to take a drive with all the trucks.
FRS radios on channel 8.

Meet BigBlockBirch at Cabela's at 1:00.

Then perhaps a short cruise over the Wheeling Suspension Bridge just because it's there.
Plus this will earn me points with Toots.

Back at cottages around 2:00, or so, for modding, geocache or whatever anyone wants to do.

And finish up with Saturday night's "eating."

Additional options,

http://www.oionline.com/museums/
THE MUSEUMS OF OGLEBAY INSTITUTE - The Mansion Museum and Glass Museum at Oglebay.
The Mansion has 13 period rooms, the Wymer General Store and Sinclair Pharmacy collections.
The Glass Museum houses the Northwood Gallery and the Sweeney Punch Bowl.
GLASSBLOWING DEMONSTRATIONS & WALK-IN WORKSHOPS - Held at the Glass Museum.
For viewing times, call 304.242.7272.
The Mansion and Glass Museum are open weekends only in March from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

TOWNGATE CINEMA presents "A Separation" 7 & 9:15 p.m. Friday, 4, 7 & 9:15 p.m. Saturday, and 2 & 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Tickets: $7; $6 seniors, matinees and OI members.

The Good Zoo
http://www.oglebay-resort.com/goodzoo/index.htm
The Zoo is closed now.
It generally re-opens around Easter, depending on the weather.

We have access to the pool, fitness center and game room.
These are included with our reservation.

Everyone is free to choose what they want to do, even if you choose to do nothing.

Sunday:

Check-out is 11 a.m.
I suggest a group breakfast at Wilson Lodge before heading home.

My questions to you...  :help:

Will you use a room in the host cottage ???
Will you get a room at the lodge ???

If you really don't care for this idea, tell me that too.  I can take it.  (y)

Trying to save up for a new kitchen and that's just a little on the steep side for my likings right now.

Sounds good to me. I will pencil it in on the schedule.

The Waddington house looks like a good place for the host cabin since it has a large patio and screened in porch.

It is a little bit on the pricey side, but it looks like a great place!

The cottage prices I posted are for both nights, not each night.
Another option, make it a day trip - visit a while and then head home.

Yeah, that place is nice.

We are in.  Looks like lodge rooms are more expensive than the shared cottage cost, so a cottage works for me.

Oglebay prices are more than what we are used to paying at Blackwater or North Bend.
If we don't get enough interest, we don't have to do this.
Keep the comments coming - positive or negative, that's how I know what's acceptable.  (y)

edit:
I checked last year's cost at Blackwater Falls.
$374.08 for four bedroom/one bathroom cabin for two nights.
Wow, Oglebay is a lot more.
Nicer, but probably not twice as nice at twice the price.  :cautious:

We should be in the final planning stages when we see you in June depending on what happens with our contract talks.

Didn't think about that. It's only about 90 mins for us.

We might look at camping options and bring the trailer if there is reasonably close camping.

Probably save $100 on gas vs. driving to Blackwater, Twin Falls, Northbend, or Pipestem.  (y)

Pencil me in for a room at the cottage..  Hate that I missed the last couple..
Once things get finalized I can look closer
Looks to be about a 6-7 hour drive for us..
So the 90 mile guy better bring their butts down for a day

Pencil me + 1 in for the host cabin also

An update:
I called today to check cottage availability - there are no six-bedroom cottages available March 23-25.
They do still have several four-bedroom cottages available.

I hoped for the six-bedroom because it is larger and would probably better accomodate our Saturday evening "eating."
But since it appears that the cottage capacity is typically four people/bedroom, a four bedroom might be OK for hosting.

Maybe we'll have enough people to fill two four-bedroom cottages, or we'll have one cottage and two or three rooms at the lodge.  I'll give it a couple weeks to get definite confirmations from those of you who will be coming and where you want to stay.  So far it looks like we have enough interest to get at least one cottage.

Opinions/suggestions welcome.

I was going say to go ahead a make a reservation for one four bedroom cottage now but now that I read the cancellation policy, I guess we need to make sure that this is a go before we do that.

Here is the deposit policy:

A $300 + tax deposit is required for all weekend rentals for traditional and deluxe cottages.

Cancellation policy:

Reservations cancelled less than 30 days in advance, result in forfeiture of the entire deposit. Cancellations made more than 30 days in advance will receive a full refund, less a $200 + tax cancellation fee

You talking to me boy?
Looking at the calendar I see that that's the 4th weekend of the month. I may not have it scheduled off. As of right now I have the 3rd weekend of the month of as my 1 weekend a month but that's always subject to change.
