2007 Avalanche owner! These things are fantastic!
« on: April 4, 2012, 20:21:10 PM »

Finally my registration went through!

Thanks for having me everyone. It feels good to officially be part of the family .

Just picked up a 2007 Bermuda Blue 6.0L LTZ smooth body Avalanche off ebay!

This is really an amazing truck that no one I know owns! I wish I knew sooner how great these were. The GMT900 platform is really my favorite and to get the color I wanted and all the added upgrades that the original buyer ordered really makes this the perfect truck!

Thanks for having me, and check it out!

For a truck that cost nearly $50,000 5 years ago, I got a fantastic deal on ebay (first vehicle bought on ebay) . I was high bidder #3 and they sent me the 2nd chance offer .

6.0L V8
4x4
Super duty trans with cooler
Navigation
Rear backup camera
Park assist
Power steps

and the list goes on, and on, and on! The owner ordered this truck new and had $13,000 in upgrades alone!

Very nice. Someone even painted the sail panels or added a body matched slick kit over it also.

The original owner is like 55-60 yrs old and I'm wondering if the dealer talked him into having the smooth plastics done..... He did own a '03, '04, and a '05 in the past. Maybe he just got tired of the black plastic look. I'm thankful he did it because I would have wanted it done too  :D.

Is having the Bermuda Blue '07 and a 6.0L a rare-ish combo? Was the '07 the last year of bermuda blue?

I just took it to the Chevrolet dealership this morning for them to fix the broken exhaust manifold bolts on the passenger side but other than that, it has been great this entire week. Had the XM for a day, loved it, and it was shut off...... Got it back on yesterday because it really is a nice feature to have.

Any ideas what else I should keep an eye on because of the mileage? 130k, but runs fantastic.

Thanks everyone.

Just got a call from the dealership and it's great news!!! They were able to extract the two broken exhaust manifold bolts and my total with a oil change, rear diff fluid change, and a "once over" on the suspension, steering, and brakes comes to about $550.

I'm happy with that.

Congratz on your purchase.  It looks like it is really clean and in excellent shape.

I have heard about the exhaust manifold bolts snapping on some of the 07's.  I have a friend that had this occur, he just tack welded a nut to the broken bolt still in the head from inside the threading of the nut, used some penetrating oil, and then wrenched it out.

Very nice looking AV.  I love the blue.  Those white seats might be fun to keep clean but they look sharp too.  I added a Volant cool air intake on my 07 and picked up 2mpg.  Mine is one of the 07's that use oil.  I add a quart every 1400 miles.  (common on 07's)  I have just turned 115,000.  I love this truck.  Have fun with it you'll enjoy it.

The leather is really easy to keep clean and the color isn't quite white. All pictures make it look white but it is a tone of gray.....

I'll keep an eye on my oil level too, thanks for the TIP!

My truck was like a 6/2006 build I think so it would probably have that problem with the oil like you are talking about.

Yes, watch the oil.  I am not sure the 6.0 has same issue but a good idea to watch.  Looks like you picked up a sharp truck.

Very Nice Sir.. Mine is white but has the same interior.. I bought mine in May of 07 with 3.2 miles on it..  176,000 now and she drives like the day I brought her home.. Best DD vehicle I have ever owned..  Most useful, comfortable etc etc..  New alternator at 138 K I believe. The rest is maintenance stuff only.. I have always used Mobil 1 since the first change.. I add about 1/2 qt at 3,000 and change it every 6,000 so even with my miles I dont have big oil use issues..  Still on the first set of replacement brake pads..  You will love the truck more the longer you have her !!  :welcome:

You know the AV has a full frame also.
The body and bed being one piece help the ride a lot, also the coil spring suspension.

It feels like an SUV.

don't have this happening either

What's funny is that I have had more compliments on the tires than any other vehicle I have ever owned! LOL

I don't know what it is about these but they really add to the appearance of the truck and give it a different looking stance. I will really consider the same ones when these finally wear out....

I do have to say that the sidewall does seem a bit weak for hauling heavy stuff. Honestly they did alright when I had my 29' camper hooked up with a hitch kit, without the hitch kit it was a bit scary and I'm not sure how much the tire actually effected that. They also don't hold air pressure constant enough to keep the TPMS from letting you know everytime you take the truck out. You are constantly hitting the button to clear the message about the tire pressure.

The tires are:
275/55/R20
Hankook Dynapro ATM

Awesome reviews too:

I haven't updated this thread in awhile, but a lot has been going on!

Still love this truck  :A:. Sure it has it's quirks, but probably one of my happiest purchases. I'm at about 144,000 miles.

A lot has been done since day one:
-new front pads and rotors
-new rear pads
-new front ACDelco autoride shocks
-replaced passenger fog light housing and bulb
-new GM steering wheel spokes
-passenger exhaust manifold bolts replaced
-new passenger rear oxygen sensor
-new GM front and rear mud flaps
-moved the power steps back to fit front mud flaps
-changed rear diff fluid
-2 new parking sensors
-alignment/tire rotation
-new rear bumper reinforcement (tow damage)
-new rear bumper cover (tow damage)
-new Magnecor 8.5mm red spark plug wires
-new ACDelco iridium spark plugs
-new starter
-new Arnott rear shock compressor (need to install)
-new Arnott rear autoride air shocks (need to install)
-new gas tank EVAP canister with updated wire harness (need to install)
-new rear Firestone Coil-Rite Kit (need to install)
-predator tuner to turn off the 4/8 cyl fuel management (waiting for)

After I get the new rear suspension in I might raise the front 2" to level it out. We'll see when I get to that point.

Here are more recent pictures from a 2012 car show in my town:

Nice looking Avy!  Mine's an '07 too and I love the thing.  I also had my sail panels painted to match, and to me it gives the truck a much cleaner look.  Glad you're enjoying it!   :B:

-new Arnott rear shock compressor (need to install)
-new Arnott rear autoride air shocks (need to install)
-new gas tank EVAP canister with updated wire harness (need to install)
-predator tuner to turn off the 4/8 cyl fuel management (waiting for)

I got around to installing the Arnott rear suspension parts this weekend. Sooooo awesome to have this system working like it should. Pretty easy install, took me about 3 hours with the evap system update parts I did while I was under there.

The install on the tank evap parts was to clear the P0449 check engine code: http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?topic=128834.0

I got the parts from Amazon :
-ACDelco 19257603 Evaporative Emission Canister Valve Solenoid Jumper Wiring Harness Assembly for $16.29.

and

-ACDelco 20995472 Evaporative Emission Canister Ventilator Assembly for $40.95.

The Predator tuner was a snap to work with. I shut off the fuel management system and loaded the "increased MPG" tune and my truck is easily gettin another 1.5 MPGs! Very very happy with that. Now I don't feel the truck switch over to 4cyl, smooth as silk.

My p0430 code keeps coming back after 2-300 miles or so

It's the bank 2 catalyst below threshold. The exhaust manifold bolts were replaced on that side over a year ago and a new lower o2 sensor was installed when I replaced the evap canister/harness a couple months ago.

Now what? I keep clearing the code with my tuner, but there are no other problems that would lead me to believe there is something wrong with the CAT on that side.... ???

I just don't want to be dealing with this problem during the winter and having the check engine light disable my remote start. That's annoying.

I got it for $15,800 and it had 132,000 miles on it. New trans, new tires, black plastic smoothed and painted body color, not a scratch on it.

I have a burgundy 2007, and recently the transmission blew up on me for no apparent reason, the fluid level was good, and there were no leaks, any one else had this problem? and i am also hearing lots of sqeaks and noises coming from my front struts, i got an estimate to replace the front struts for $1500.00, ( apparently they are electronic) and adjust the ride and level electronically. The truck has 140,000 kilometeres on it. I had a 2002 before this one, and the struts lasted over 250,000 km. on that one. any one had similar problems. The truck is still my favorite, why is it being discontinued, i will really miss the midgate feature.

^ I'm not sure why your trans went out and I have no idea why the one in my truck was replaced either..... I'm just glad it was done before I got it.

You can replace your clunky front autoride shocks for waaaaaay cheaper than $1500. Read here:
http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,131766.0.html

I replaced my front autoride shocks with new OEM units off Amazon for less than $350. I also replaced the rear autoride shocks and compressor with Arnott brand for about $550 and Arnott will buy your old blown out rear shocks for $25 each so don't throw them away!

^thanks ;)

Recently had my drivers front caliper dragging pretty bad. Gets the front wheel so hot you can't touch it. It ended up trashing my wheel bearing too on my way from Wisconsin to Indiana last weekend towing my car/trailer.

While in Indiana I swapped out the drivers front caliper bracket, slide pins, and wheel bearing.

Now not even a week later my passenger front caliper is sticking . I got all the parts ready at the parts store and will fix it before it trashes the bearing.

Right about 147,000 miles now. I still love it  :A:  :E:

Nice truck! and a belated, congratz! Love those body colored plastics, just add a Black Diamond emblem on the side and everybody thinks you've got a '13

Funny note, I just joined the forum but got my 07 LT on exactly the same day as you got/posted yours (April 4 2012?) Anyways, enjoy your truck!  :B:

Bout to get an '08 Black LTZ shipped to me... my only hesitation was should I get black (with the chrome handles and rv mirror covers - just tooo classy) or get that color. That blue looks simply amazing.

I'm still having front caliper issues. Looks like the new caliper brackets, slide pins, boots, and lube isn't doing the trick.

I ordered 2 new front ACdelco unloaded calipers, both front flexible brake hoses, and new pads under warranty through Oreilys. Hopefully they are all here for the weekend and I can swap these out and be done.

Frustrating to see my instant MPGs on a flat road drop 3mpgs because the calipers are dragging  :E: :beating:.

Replaced front rotors and pads on my 07 with this kit from Brakemotive. Very high quality brakes! Stops straight with no dust, barely worn after 20,000 miles. And, they don't get rusty, even in Pittsburgh.

Actually, I have had my truck for about a year and a half now. I just update my original thread with new stuff . It's a good way to keep a tabs of what I did and when .

I like this truck so much I want it to be as "like new" as possible and keep up on the repairs. I hope to keep this for 10 years. It has so much great stuff already, what could I ever "upgrade" to? :A:

Me too, I have to atleast try to make the LEDs do all the functions.

My bulbs showed up, but not sure if I can get to them just yet. I really need to fix my power step before messing with the LED sail mods.

Thank you.

The grill is growing on me a bit. I do like that no one around here has this setup, makes it more unique.

Sunday I managed to fix my passenger side power step. Can finally take the bungee cord off that was holding it up  :beating:. Luckily it was a cheap-ish simple fix. Took about a hour to remove the complete step, repair, and hang again.

Saturday I made a craigslist run to pickup a Snugtop. Couldn't be happier and can't wait to mount it!  :A:

I eventually got all the hardware, keys, new lock, new latch, and everything for the snugtop.

Cut down the fiberglass lip on the rear glass so it fits my '07.

It's sitting in the paint booth waiting for prep. Topper will be bermuda blue but we are going to paint the top bars flat black. The silver bars are just a bit too bright up there all by themselves  ::).

Here is a couple shots from camping this summer for Halloween. A lot of people were oogling over the AV as they drove/walked past. I should have been handing out towels for people to wipe their drool with

That was the week the passenger side power step broke too, doh! All fixed now.

Arnott rear suspension compressor is failing and I was able to get Arnott to agree on sending me a replacement. I am past the 1yr compressor warranty (1yr 1mo) but they are really helping me out.

I will be relocating the new compressor to the saddlebag storage bin on the drivers side to help keep it out of the elements. GM's design of the compressor original location seems silly and more of an afterthought.

After fixing the corroded/broke wire connections and re-installing the compressor, this is what it was doing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEl25ibWiTU

The truck's autoride level sensor is working because every time I turn the key to the "on" position it would kick the compressor on. It just wouldn't pump enough to actually fill the bag. No leaks in the air lines or the shock bags. It eventually filled the bags after turning the key 6x or so.

New compressor should be here today. I think I have all I need to relocated it into the saddle bag tonight.

Wish me luck!

I will post up installed pics tomorrow if it all works out well

When it is done I will fab up a relocation kit (air line, fittings, bracket, hardware, harness extension, etc.) for people with the compressor that want it to last longer than 1 year  :beating: .

some companies annoy me. I know it was fedex's fault but I had a guy that, through me, ordered a light bar from PuddleStompin and some mounts from socal supertrucks. Not granted the bar isnt in yet, but the package with the mounts got lost, how does that happen. Where do they end up? with a hobo or something? so I in my agitated state wrote a strongly worded email lol hahaha to socal supertrucks and because of my anger they 2 day shipped another set of mounts. still annoying as hell

Yeah, I don't understand how someone was holding my old compressor with the drier mounted to it in one hand, and had a new compressor without the drier mounted in the other hand and said "looks exactly like what they need" and mailed it to me.

It's costing me more time and them more money to ship that part.

They did include another new drier rebuild kit that maybe I will use in a few years to freshen up the system.

I still have some kind of rear suspension problem that's really pissing me off  :E:. I don't know if it is something with the truck, sensors, or the Arnott system.

Sometimes the compressor runs for 5 seconds, other times it doesn't run and I get a service suspension light. If it does turn on, the air bags get full and then empty right away  :9:.

I've spent hours bench testing the compressor, testing connections, checking continuity of my harness extension to make sure I didn't mix the colors up, and all of that stuff is checking out good. It almost seems as if the valve that closes the air system after it is filled, it isn't closing causing the air to leak back through the system and out the intake valve of the compressor and other times it seems I'm getting no power at all to the compressor and it does nothing.

The Arnott autoride shocks are clunky as hell when there is no air in them so I'm getting more aggravated with this poop every day. I usually fix everything I can myself but I've had it with this system. It keeps kicking me in the balls.

Oh and while testing the system last night for about 45 minutes, the battery on the truck died. Totally gone, done, dookie, caput, nada. Just another kick in the junk.

Yep, you got a rare truck, and a great one! That color with the 6.0 and 4.10s is pretty sweet.

I envy your 4.10.  Chev doesn't offer that anymore.  My husbands Silverado has that and he hauls a## when he takes off.   My granny 3.42 just kind of crawls over the line, but with the 6 speed tranny it is awesome on the highway and most of my driving is on the highway so I don't mind so terribly much.

And 6.0 as well.  It must be so fast.  When my warranty runs out I'm chipping mine!

So, enjoy your new truck.  It's a beaut!

Thanks blackbeaut!

I only drove one other Avalanche that was a base model LS 2007 5.3L before buying my '07 6L and I'm glad to have found the 6L truck. Feels much stronger, peppier, and quicker to respond.

I really want to drive a 6 speed AV to know what that is like too, I don't feel like I need to upgrade from my '07 yet but you never know what the future holds. I probably wouldn't get anything with the 5.3L so maybe it would have to be a Cadillac EXT next  :A:.

As of right now I am only $100 short of saving money for these 24" Texas Edition chrome replica wheels. They will be my new summer setup with some 305/35/24 tires:

-new 99-2011 JBA shorty headers with Stage 8 locking bolts

Save your money on the Stage 8 bolts until you know you have a problem with header bolts.

I'm not knocking the Stage 8 bolts as I just put some on my diff cover.  But I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with header bolts on these engines.  I haven't had a problem on either my truck or my son's truck.  His doesn't have shorties but I've been running JBA shorties on my truck for about 8 years and 200,000 miles.

So I should just use the JBA header bolts they supply? My stock manifold bolts are no good, that's why I'm going to install headers while I'm in there replacing the broken manifold bolts.

It's been about 8 years - I don't recall if new bolts came with my JBA shorties but if they did I'm sure I used them.

Otherwise I'd replace the stock with some new grade 8 bolts.  The Stage 8s are about $5 each - I'm sure some grade 8s would be a lot less.

JBA's are here . Seller doesn't know how to pack for shipment so the headers got a little banged up and the manifold gaskets look like crumpled up soda cans . They did come with grade 8.8 head bolts/hardware. I believe these are just the silver ceramic coated stainless version and I might try to spray a high temp bake on silver coating.

 :E:

Lowering kit also came. Much better packing job from this guy!

I took the wheels/tires in for mount and balancing:

I will give you a 100% honest evaluation of the ride quality from changing the rear spring. I'm a little worried about what/if any change there will be. Hopefully the autoride bags are really softening up the suspension to keep it a smooth ride.

$700-800 is INSANE!!!  I had one dealership quote me $400-500 with an alignment (through a friend that works in their service dept.  I then called up my buddy who we (family) has bought our last 8 cars from including the avalanche and he talked to his service guy and they are doing my install for $200-250 with an alignment.  Granted that is a hook up price since he is the GM of the dealership but still the place I have never done before said $400-500.

From what I have heard lowering will give you a much more comfortable body roll when cornering  :B:

From what I have discerned lately and from meeting many of our wonderful members, contributors, and being in the later in life category too,  more than a few of our brethren could benefit from using our abdominal muscles while turning sharply. I suspect our Avalanches are possibly near too close to the late 90's Sedan de Ville touring comfort and we may be losing our evolutionary DNA to tolerate a ride as it is supposed to feel like.

Remember when we all liked a Stiff Ride and thought it was supposed to be that way?  :o

While this comment certainly has it's merits, I find myself perfectly content cruising in the left lane, five clicks under the speed limit, left turn signal flashing, all the while not spilling a drop of my large, filled to the brim coffee I have placed on top of my dash.

I agree, thats just not what the avalanche is made for. It wasnt made to be a track car. Thats why it was put on the suburban chassis and frame- for the smooth ride.

If I wanted a track car I would go out and buy and then build a mazda miata mx-5 for a true track car and then haul that sucker on a trailer pulled by my avalanche

I'm trying to keep the truck as useful as I can as a "truck" but add a little flare to make it different. The stiffer ride isn't a real big concern, but it would be nice to eliminate the center of gravity a bit and bring the body roll down too. Again, I'm not making a low rider, 5/7 drop, notched frame, etc.... I just don't want to raise the truck UP, when that style of truck is everywhere here and no one gos off road with lifted trucks.

Either way, all the mods are reversible and maybe with age I will go back to a stock setup. You only live once, so I'm ready and willing to try it!   :A:

I was going to mount the wheels, but we just got snow again yesterday and it is only 30* again  :E:. Tired of this wintery bull crap  :9:.

On our last warm and sunny day, I popped the rear window out to be thanked with this lovely crack  :E: :beating:. Damn it. This brutal winter just took its toll on that plastic. Truck has almost 150k miles and it was OK until now. Oh well.

I will tow my boat thousands of miles this summer with my avalanche lowered and with 26" rims.  Because my truck will be lowered and on big rims that means it won't be used like a truck???  I will haul all kinds of stuff for the yard we will be putting in our new house the whole time it will be lowered and on 26s.  Does this make it less of a truck???  When I haul all kinds of furniture to the new house in my lowered avalanche on 26s will that somehow make it less of a truck because it isn't stock height?  Does somehow jacking it up 10" and putting 38" tires on it make it more of a truck?  If I take my truck off the pavement (which I will many times this summer while at the lake) does it make it less of a truck because it is lowered and on 26s?  Since the avalanche is the "most versatile" vehicle ever made does that mean me/anyone customizing it how they want it makes it less of a truck?  Is a 2wd truck less of a truck than a 4wd?

I never said that. I am just talking about the rough ride and tight suspension. Its still just as much of a truck. Personally I am not a lowered guy. I just dont like it. To me it is unpractical. I want to be able to take my AV off the pavement and get where I need to go. It doesnt make it less of a truck to lower it. I just feel its unpratical.

I think anything other than stock ride height is unpractical .

We all desire different things. There pro's and con's to going lowered OR lifted.

This debate will go on until the end of man kind!  :4:

Lowered or lifted, I like to see mods done and each owners personal touch.  :A: :B:

Bruizza & 09chevyavy, I think we need to take 1 AV with a mild drop and 1 AV with a mild lift and put them through the same tests. Off road, on road, towing, etc and see what the outcome is.

Hey Fuz, I think were on the same page with the truck and I am looking forward to your input on yours when its done. I am in the thought of the 2.5 lower in the back to level the ride out (mainly for looks) and take away some body roll when cornering. When my brother and I lowered his first Tahoe it did add a slight feel of a lighter steering wheel, so I would imagine the AV would feel similar. My main concern is the smooth highway feel and ability to soak up the bumps in the road, I dont want a rattling interior because the back stiffened up to much because of the lower, lol

I agree with you there. It would be a neat test to be a part of. It also depends on which mods have been done. Like even though I want to eventually go bigger I still want to get much bigger sway bars and maybe have some custom made so that I can keep the body roll down as much as I can

Mounted them up on Saturday. Looks a little strange with the truck at stock ride height. Can't wait to see it lowered.

I had one of the inner lip clamp-on wheel weights fling off on my way to work on Monday  :E: so the shop is picking it up on Thursday do try again.  :9:

The ride is noticeably more rough from the low profile tires. There is some tracking (pulling with road ruts) that wasn't there before because of the tire stiffness and 10" tire width. With the autoride suspension, the ride is still softer than a normal crew cab truck, so no complaints.

That with will ride the ruts that's for sure, I had 14.5" wide on my last truck and those baby's would walk the ruts at stop signs pretty bad.

Built my TPMS canister last night .

The right tube is to program new sensors one at a time for each corner. The left tube is for the pre programmed sensors to seal tight, pressurize, and leave in the truck so the computer reads the 4 sensors pressure. No more tire pressure light  :4:

So two questions 1) I've heard the PVC canisters can explode and 2) don't the sensors go to sleep if they are not spinning?

Not sure how the canister can be compromised enough to explode, but I'm sure it happens. My canister it tucked away in the deep area of the saddle bag. Nothing will hit it, probably the safest spot for it.

There is a video on youtube where someone is testing the strength of a pressurized PVC canister and it is almost impossible to make it explode.

see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVO4_hUvFsc

No, the sensors do not need to be spinning to transmit the pressure.

There is a transmitted frequency between the BCM and the sensors. Kind of like walkie talkies where it is in 'sleep mode' until the signal is sent. The sensor batteries are pro rated for 5-7 years.

Why the canister? Are the sensors not connecting to the computer? I had the same problem with my new wheels. It finally worked when we flashed them before sealing the bead. It seems the thicker rim was blocking the signal from the handheld. It's all good now. I agree that warning on the dash will drive you nuts!

No, I didn't lower it yet because I wanted to figure out why I am still having autoride issues.

The canister is so I can leave the sensors in the PVC reading that pressure. Then I can swap wheels or rotate them any time and not worry about what sensors are in which wheels or if it is reading correctly. I've never needed a TPMS before, so why start now. Cars are getting smarter so drivers are getting dumber.

This is kind of funny...... I didn't read anywhere that the sensors need to be spinning to transmit to the computer, and everything has been fine for the last 4+ days.

I went on a road trip yesterday and my tire pressure light came on  :E:. I thought 'no freakin way I lost pressure in the canister'. I pushed the button for tire pressure info and there were just -- lines instead of it reading 0/1psi.

Great, the canister didn't leak but I lost signal to the sensors  :beating:. I got out of the truck and shook the canister and the sensors started reading again, but for only about 15 minutes until each one started to drop signal again.

This sucks.

I have been wanting to install my 2/3 drop but other repairs keep coming up that I need to focus on. Right now is a clanking rear suspension over bumps. Can't figure out what is causing it .

Do the drop, you'll more than likely find the clanker when you take off the suspension components.

Swapped back over to my stock wheels for winter and spotted a broken front sway bar endlink  :E:.

At least I can get that clunking in the front fixed easily, but still nothing obvious for the clanking in the rear suspension somewhere. Oh well.

I bought new front and rear sway bar endlinks:
-Front ACDELCO PRO 45G0002
-Rear Mevotech MK6700

I was going to go with stock parts, but these other sway bar endlinks will go great with the upgraded Eibach 38106.32 sway bar kit I plan on getting in the future .

Changing out the sway bar endlinks helped with the clunk in the front, still have a clank in the rear. Oh well.

Really nice parts for about $50 total and install was easy. Truck on the ground, hand tools, and about 1 hour total for all 4 corners.

Its a tough choice. The truck rides really good the way it is, sits with a small rake unloaded and sits almost perfect level when the camper is hooked up.

If I lower it I have to worry about:
-new ride quality of the rear springs
-how level it is unloaded (I want a small rake)
-will it have reverse rake after I hook up my camper
-I will have to buy a different WD hitch because our current one will be too low
-re-align the truck
-worry about new spots where the tires might rub
-what will the tire wear be on my expensive 24" wheels

You see how it all compounds CO$T for me by simply adding a 2/3 drop? It could cost me a lot. $350 for new WD hitch, $75 truck alignment, $150 per tire if they camber wear out, etc.....

Oh trust me man. I get it. I have the same problems with my new 35x14.50R17 super swamper iroks with only a 3.5" lift kit on the front.
I built a front bumper so I was good for clearance there.
They ride a little rougher but not too bad.
Tire whirr which I love.
Worse gas mileage which I dont love- 17 mpg at 70 to now 14.
Rubbed a ton on the back of the fender well and had to grind and cut and massage that to work just sitting there, not even going off road.
Getting it realigned today.

Luckily because super swampers are a local company and I bought straight from the company they offer free mount and balance, free rotation for life as well as free flat fix for life. I also know the owners daughter as she is my best friends girlfriend. So I got a deal on them and saved $600 on just the tires haha.

But yeah man I feel your pain.

Yea Fuz, after lowering mine I did bottom on a couple of rolling dips in the highway at highway speed fully loaded for a camping trip. I really like the way it handles and looks when unloaded, but am considering going back to stock ride height.

It is a tough call to make because I like the look of a slightly lower truck.

Maybe if I sell the McGaughy's kit, I should buy the Eibach sway bar kit for some more driving and towing stability, yeah?

Blu Fuz I think you might be worrying a bit too much about lowering it.  Mine is at 2/3 and I tow our 22' wakeboarding boat all the time like that on 26s.

Didn't need a new hitch but I did flip my 2" drop to a 2" rise.  Didn't cost anyting.  Just needed a BIG AZZ wrench.

Haven't had any wear issues on my tires.  I know I looked when I took them off for the winter.  Alignment will have to be done but that isn't a big deal.

It does rub but that has just caused a little bit of damage to my fender liners.  Not too worried about those.

It will still have the slight rake.

It won't have reverse rake when you tow.  Mine doesn't.  I have a picture of mine towing a 23' boat that weighs 5400lbs dry and it still isn't sitting with a reverse rake.

My hitch doesn't flip/adjust and has the torsen bars and anti-sway bar that attach to it so if I lower the truck, the hitch will go lower, the front of the camper will go lower. That cost will have to be figured in because I can't modify the setup to work after lowering the truck.

My hitch doesn't have any pins to set the height of the ball, as shown below:

I would have to buy a complete WD hitch that the ball can be moved up/down with matching torsen bars, as shown below:

I know the truck looks a little 'donk' at stock ride height and 24's but man does it sit level with the camper and the trailer is nice and level looking too. Hard to mess with a good thing:

Pretty slow in here!

Small update for everyone. The previous owners re-paint job on this truck is starting to show its flaws. There are spots where there is moisture behind the paint and it is either bubbling or in one spot big chunks of paint are peeling off. After the truck is paid off (end of the summer), the saving will begin to have it stripped, painted properly, and have all the door/window seals replaced. All in time.

But, until then I was able to score the oem BILLET grill by Lacks off epay. My brother bought my other billet grill. Just popped it in last night.

I like the gold bowtie as well.

I always have color matched mine before, but on my Gold 08 I'm going to leave the bowtie alone, it looks good.

Finally did my 2 piece vinyl center caps for my 24's.

I cut a black circle, layed that first. Used a hairdryer to keep it smooth and get the air out from under the vinyl.

Then I bought a set of metal looking bowtie vinyl from Neuvo Wheel. Stuck them over the black.

I think it turned out pretty good and still has the OEM look that I was going for.

Before left, after right:

I'm going to be going back to OEM rear air shocks and taking out my Arnotts just for the heck of it.

I prefer OEM in this case simply because of the design difference but went with Arnott because of price initially.

Scored 2 'damaged box' AcDelco 580-451 rear autoride shocks on Amazon for $144 each marked down from their $208 normal price each.

Also, just took our new camper out on our first trip. Took a pic as I was getting it lined up on site.

Also, removed the Arnott shocks got my AcDelco autoride shocks installed. Can't wait to load them up and see how they handle

My OEM part collecting is going pretty good for the steering/suspension overhaul. I'm only trying to find OEM parts and searching every day for the newest deal, if any. Slowly but surely.

Also been looking for 09-14 GM door moldings with the chrome strip along the top to replace my '07 moldings that are peeling off. So far I have drivers side front and rear moldings for about 25% of new cost  :4:.

Lots more to find, some parts I might just pay full price for to finish the search.

I'm still collecting parts for a 1-time overhaul and alignment. The truck still rides nice, just staying ahead of the game so I have all the parts here when I am ready.

Interior pull handle cable snapped on Friday morning. Dealer will only sell the cable with the latch assembly for about $160 . You can find the cable and assembly on epay for about $115. You simply can't buy just the OEM cable from the dealer, it just clips in so this is just a way for them to rob you. Luckily I found a Dorman cable that actually works and Autozone was able to get it to me that afternoon so I could install it Friday night. It was about $49 at autozone, but I needed it right away and couldn't wait but they are on ebay for $30 shipped I will be buying a spare to keep with the truck.

Dorman 924-367

Also installed the replacement chrome interior handle I have had sitting here for a couple years waiting to go in to get rid of the original one with peeling chrome.

And while on our way to drop off the camper, the rear brakes started grinding, WTF poop just doesn't end with this truck. :E:  :beating: :( :needhug:

Original GM parts would have cost $452 for 2 rotors and a set of pads. $184 pads, $134 each rotor.

I found GM pads on Amazon for $75 and a decent set of AcDelco rotors on Amazon for $32 each (damaged box). Free shipping + tax out the door was only $148.

Rear brakes started grinding in the first hour of our 3 hour drive to drop our camper off at Country Fest. Got there and limped the truck back home.

Bought OEM rotors and pads off Amazon (f#*%$!ing love that place!). The rear rotors again were 'open box' items for only $31 each shipped. The pads were $76.

One of the pads had ripped clean off the backing plate, that's why the brakes were grinding. The rotors were original, so it was time to just get them out of there. The caliper slide pins were bone dry, no lube at all. The metal clips for the brake pads were rusted to swiss cheese and had chunks missing.

Lubed the slide pins, new metal clips, new pads, new rotors, install went smooth and everything is working great.

The greatest part of this is I have been chasing a loud clanking noise over bumps in the back end of my truck for about a year. Believe it or not, hopefully not a coincidence, but the clanking is GONE!  :o I suspect that the because the brake pad caliper clips were so rotten and not doing anything that the brake pads were moving around in the caliper causing the metal-on-metal clank.

Some of my '09+ exterior door ding guards came in too, lucky for me they are bigger than the original '07 guards so they will cover the paint transition when the previous owner painted the truck with the original guards on. They need to be painted Bermuda blue.

Spectre intake is here too:

Huge props to krazycarguy for extracting and replacing my drivers side exhaust manifold bolts.  :A: :B: Thanks a ton, I'm a happy camper now, no more exhaust tic. 4 came out that still had heads, 5th one the shaft was sticking out enough to wrench out, and the 6th one had to have a nut welded because the bolt shaft was below the surface.

Installed my new steering wheel last week, I've never had a new steering wheel. A place that no one has touched before. My hands only. No one elses snot rockets and grubby paws have touched. Feels great!

Got my hood decals installed too.

I've always liked this truck.

Looking good!

Weren't you looking for some replacement door side trim?

I think it would look good without the door side trim at all.

Keep tweaking, it's working.

^ Thanks.

I do have 3 of the door trims. Trying to snag them at a decent price one at a time. Getting there!

I know the truck would look good with no door guards, but they didn't remove the door guards when it was repainted before I bought it. The paint transition will be left on the door if I remove the guards.

The stock moldings are peeling off and the '07 style are junk. I'm just trying to replace them with a style I like and it works out that the '09+ door trim is wider and it will cover the paint transitions until I can have the truck repainted in 5 years or so.

Very easy. A couple torx screws, steering column nut, electrical clips. There are some youtube vids on it as well.

Thank you,   I'll check out some videos. I'm wondering if a heated steering wheel would work from the escalade or Denali not sure if the wiring would be there or not though?  Mine has some scrapes on the top of it and just annoys me terribly. So it's getting changed with something.

Yes, you can add the heated steering wheel to the 2007 Avalanche from the newer ones.

The steering wheels cost about $300 and you need the clock spring and function buttons on the left of the wheel.

For now I traced out my drivers side patch panel so I can make just a surface plate to cover the rust hole for now. It will be painted Bermuda Blue before being installed. I can't stand the rust spot and I'm not financially ready to have my truck cut, patch panels installed, and repainted. It will look pretty good from 4 feet away, where the rust hole can be spotted a parking lot away, eeeeek.

Also, I was lucky to find 3 brand new and 1 used 2009+ door ding guard with chrome strip to replace the crappy 2007-2008 door guards that are curling up and peeling off the truck. They are getting prepped and painted Bermuda Blue with the patch plates.

I am pretty excited to see the new style door guards on. Trying not to put too much chrome on this truck to make it tacky, but these are by far the best looking guards for our trucks.

Here is a before picture of the rust patch on the drivers side rear between the door and the wheel. It's nasty:

You going to spray some rust inhibitor on it to slow it down before you cover it.

I should do a lot of things...... It will only be covered for a couple years, so hopefully I can keep it covered long enough before it consumes the truck!

We took some black out of the paint mix and sprayed a white base coat on the parts to lighten/brighten the finish. Last time we sprayed this color for my snugtop it came out just a tad dark. Close is close enough for me right now.

I'm pretty excited about it too. I have not seen another 2007 Bermuda blue avalanche with this style of door trim because it wasn't offered then.

It will look way better than the faded and peeling door guards.

The best part is it will have the look of a 2009+ because of the style of door guard. Adds just a little bit of chrome.

Installed my new steering wheel last week, I've never had a new steering wheel. A place that no one has touched before. My hands only. No one elses snot rockets and grubby paws have touched. Feels great!

My "new to me" 08 LT has some gnarly wear spots on the steering wheel.  Was it hard to replace it?  Kinda leery about working around the air bag.   What did it cost for the new wheel?  New radio & cruise control switches as well?

Very easy to replace. Unhook + side of battery gor a few minutes. Follow youtube videos. Couple push locks for the airbag, wire connectors, steering wheel nut, and reverse order. Makes you feel good holding a new steering wheel.

Scored some LED smoked tails on epay. I wasn't looking for any really because I wanted maybe an EXT set eventually but I know those aren't LED.

I took a chance, they were cheap enough to try. I think the brand is Philips and I really didn't want them to look too 'cholo' if you know what I mean. Aftermarket tails can really ruin the look of your ride.

I'm happy to say that they look pretty damn nice and pleasantly surprised!  I think I would still rather have tail lights with a red lens cover, not clear but these will do for now.

I had clear lenses before I smoked them, I found it doesn't take as much to make a clear lens look black over a red one so you don't lose as much output.

My list of suspension/steering OEM parts I am looking for is getting shorter and shorter!  :A:

I have been on the hunt for marked down (50%-75%) OEM parts for over a year. All the expensive parts are bought and a few 20-$30 parts left I might just buckle down and buy so I have them all.

The rust hole is getting bigger and the door guard on the passenger front door has peeled back about 4". I can't wait for spring to get working on it again for these cosmetic issues.

Hey Fuz, I replaced the rear control arms with a more solid box tube style and put a bigger solid sway bar, the difference is incredible.

I was plagued with rotten rockers on my 02, but I have yet to see an 07+ with significant rust yet  :(

You guys aren't going to believe this...... I didn't notice this major issue.

The seller on ebay that sold me the GM passenger side front 09-14 door molding w/chrome 15950342 sent me the correct lower half of the molding, but it came with the chrome upper piece from the drivers side front door  :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E:

f#*%$! my life - I never noticed it was wrong after having these for months.

The dealer can't sell just the upper chrome part, they sell the whole molding for $250  :beating: :9: :o

 :9: :9: :9: :9: :9:

now I can't get the moldings put on until I get the right chrome piece. :'(

They are still going to take my truck in, remove all of the moldings and install the 3 complete sets I have. I'll just have to stick on the 4th one when I get the chrome strip.....

Cheapest I can find the passenger front door molding kit is $160  :E: :E: :E:

Before:

After:

I'm really a fan of the all blue original moldings so it will take some time to get use to the chrome strip down the side of the truck. I could always put black vinyl on the chrome strip, but for now I am very happy with how they layed out, that they cover the existing paint lines where the old moldings were, and they make the truck look a few years newer. My smoked tails will probably be sold and I will go to the red lens version of that tail light or back to OEM because the different shades of chrome clash.

Wow! those really change the overall look, for sure!

I really like the chrome strip, as it breaks up the side of the truck paint wise.

I really hate to hear about the molding issue... I hope you find a solution soon  and its cheaper for you

Also, I was poking around on Fleabay the other day and ran across a set of taillights for sale. They were attached to an Avy very similar to yours  :4:

Thanks, and yes, you did find my tails for sale on epay

I have LKQ hunting down the molding for me. They thought they had one at my nearest location but after I saw the picture it was the bubbled out version of the molding with chrome strip. Close, but that chrome strip doesn't fit these moldings. They should be able to find something.

The body shop said they can make my chrome strip fit and wouldn't be that noticeable, which might happen if I can't find a decent price for a correct one.

Oh, here is some of the rust  :E:

Oh my  :( I hate to see that. My 02 was eat up with rust when we traded it.

I have noticed a lot of the 07+ trucks chipping along the edges of the fenders in that spot....

I actually looked at an 09 LTZ last week, and the fenders on both sides had rust bubbles on the front fenders but it hadn't flaked off yet.

I am sure you are ecstatic to get it fixed

The truck still looks GREAT overall!

It was so nice of the body guy to tear my old moldings off the truck and destroy 2 out of the 4 original ones instead of using some line to cut away the molding tape. Are people that f#*%$!ing stupid that they think there is no value in a used part? Just because I don't want them anymore doesn't mean it's garbage. There might be a guy out there looking for 1 molding because his flew off and is willing to spend $20 for one no matter the color.

 :beating:

Some people are such inconsiderate f#*%$!ers. I was going to put the group of 4 used moldings on ebay for $50 to re-coop some of the $90 install cost of my new ones. So much for that.

Oh no.... Is it the same shop that did your snug top? You would think they would take a little more consideration..

There is most usually always value in a used part...  :E:

I had the snugtop and door moldings painted at work.

A body shop down the street took off my old moldings and installed the new ones. I don't have the time at home to do it and they don't allow our vehicles in the shop at my work. We just happen to have a paint booth so they can spray things for me if I need it.

The body shop that did the moldings is not the shop that will be doing my rust repair either, he won't touch rust.

LKQ can't find me one. 2 local scrap yards have nothing. Car-part.com is almost useless with no pictures/prices. I did find a craigslist ad for www.kosiski.com that has a Silverado they are parting out that looks to have a good molding. They told me $60 + $20 shipping.......

Is that worth $80?! I don't know, if I want to spend at kind of coin when my truck needs the money elsewhere......

Wasn't the correct molding at kosiski. I decided to just have them install the molding with the wrong chrome piece that I already had. A normal person can't tell it isn't a perfect match, but it's better than nothing and I'm happy with it. It isn't that bad.

I also canceled the rust repair. I couldn't justify making the truck pretty again right now until I get this suspension overhaul finished and some tires and new parts for my wife's Ford Flex.

I also sold the smoked LED tail lights on ebay, the smoked lens just didn't flow with any of the chrome on the truck. Back to OEM for now but I will eventually get the red lens LED tails just like the smoked ones.

After years of searching for the best deals I can find on OEM suspension parts, the results are in! I'm finally done looking and can get started on replacing .

Rear autoride shocks:
Everyday online price per pair $546 shipped.
I paid $288 shipped

Front autoride shocks:
Everyday online price per pair $476 shipped.
I paid $335 shipped

Now the big list:
(2) tie rod ends
(2) front sway bar bushings
(2) rear sway bar bushings
Upper left + right front control arms w/ ball joints
Lower left + right front control arms w/ ball joints (aluminum)
(1) rear track bars
(2) rear upper control arms
(2) rear lower control arms
(front and rear sway bar endlinks already bought/installed not included on this list)

Everyday online price $915 shipped.
I paid $590 shipped .

I saved around $725 over the last couple years searching for all these parts on Amazon and eBay. They are all brand new OEM and the shocks are AcDelco OEM replacements.

Now, to get all the parts installed  :4:.

I paid a good friend of mine with a lift to install all of the parts for me while I was on vacation last week.

What a difference these new parts make vs the old worn ones.

182,000 miles and after seeing the used parts, the previous owner must have had MOOG lower front ball joints installed and had 1 upper front control arm/bj replaced. The moogs were junk, 1 siezed up and one really loose. The aftermarket upper arm/bj was also really loose.

One thing I noticed right away is that my truck will no longer cycle the autoride compressor on the first start up of the day (or even the mid day start up). Could be possible that the new rear suspension bushings hold the truck better at the ride height it was intended for.

Here are the new parts on their way to be installed (I ordered 1 too many rear track bars, woops) .

Also, just a few days before the suspension overhaul, my oil pressure gauge has been swinging all over the place  :E:. I ordered a new pressure sensor and screen. I will dive into that repair soon.

I sold my LED tail lights and dug out all the BS that collects in this massive pocket behind the tails. Holy cripes that was deep mud, dirt, rocks. It goes so far towards the rear wheel well from the tail light you really can't reach it all to clean it out. Clogged the poop out of my shop vac but its the only way to clean it out......

I sold a few things around the house and got some more funds together to have the body work/rust done. Went to a more reputable shop yesterday for an estimate, just waiting to hear back from them. If the price is right, the work should be finished early June. Very excited.

I have seen this a lot on the second gens on here... I'd be awfully tempted to knock like a 1" hole in the bottom of that corner for drainage purposes.

^ I totally agree. There is no reason for that giant cup to be there.

It makes me wonder if the same problem isn't present in front of the rear tire causing you this problem

First glance of the truck with the new door moldings and the 24's mounted. I think it works just fine.

New suspension parts are in, alignment is done, she's ready to rock for the summer.  :4:

It looks good  I do think it needs a small touch of chrome somewhere at the top, I don't know what though, I feel like the mirrors would be too much and vent visors would be too much... Hmmm It really does look great though

I agree.

The truck looks really good.

Maybe an Escalade roof rack with body colored end caps would complete the chroming?

I think that would tie it all in and it would look pretty sharp   :B:

^ I think you guys are right on. One more little tidbit of chrome near the roof but not gaudy. Chrome mirror caps not high enough and chrome vent visors would be too big and curvy. Straight line chrome and the EXT roof rack might just be the ticket.

How about a chrome trim stripe along the edge of the sails between the paintwork and the sail?

Things are still trucking along.

Truck has appointment June 13th for the rust to be fixed on all 4 corners and rear wheel wells .

I put my stainless GM sills on, they really look good and are thick/good quality parts.

Before:

After:

Scored a set of EXT tails for only $25 off craigslist. What a hell of a deal.
