Perhaps there is confusion with the Avy's collapsible column which retracts away from the driver upon impact with a telescoping column which adjusts not only up and down, but outward to bring the steering wheel closer to the driver.. and since there is an airbag in center of the steering wheel......the more room an airbag has to fully deploy the better.
Easier and safer to have the pedals adjust toward the firewall for drivers with long legs or toward a driver with short arms than to have rigid pedals with a column that telescopes outward.
