Well done, I don't think that I can commit to being a Chairperson or a assistant chairperson but I am willing to help anyone who can!

If you have ideas for a National Event in Region III lets hear it!

anyone in the Nebraska area...say Omaha it's only a little over 1200 miles. >:D

15 days left to have your 2014 NCAGTG Proposal in :D

got a week left folks....would love to see a proposal (y)

I want to start voting tomorrow.  You have anything for Region III

There's always the annual BratFest over Labor Day weekend in St. Louis.

There is also Cardinal baseball games, Six Flags, casino boats, to do in St Louis.....

I have not heard of any proposals from Region III. :dunno:

Really would like to have something from each region....I'll extend the deadline another few weeks (y)

I'll have a St. Louis event pitch for 2015. I don't think I'm ready to pitch something for 2014.

I would have love to see it at Woodward Dream Cruise but I see they do not want to change the date for the Nationals. :dunno:

So I think in region 2 or 1, Atlanta, Tennessee , Bowling Green Kentucky.

OK the deadline for the proposals was extended:

As you can see Madison, Indiana is within 1000 miles of the entire east cost of the United States. Of course there are many other large cities within this 1000 mile radius.  There are at least 10 large metropolitan areas within a 500 radius of Madison Indiana.
Madison, while not located on a interstate is easily accessible from several good state highways. It is approximately 35 miles north of I-71 which runs between Louisville and Cincinnati or about 20 miles east of exit 34 off of I-65.

Madison is a small city but hosts many events throughout the year. I have touted the advantages of having our events in smaller cities before but let me remind you why I think it is important. When you host an event in a smaller city getting around with our big trucks is much easier. Finding parking for a lot of Avalanches can be a problem in most normal “tourist” areas. Small cities seem to go out of their way to accommodate your wishes.  Rates for rooms are usually much less expensive than in large cities.

Madison has several of the newer “chain” motels and finding rooms would not be a problem providing we schedule the event during a week that has no other major event scheduled. Madison also has many unique hotels. They have majestic hotels that sit high on bluffs overlooking the Ohio River. There are also many Bed & Breakfast Inns available. State and private parks are abundant in the area for camping.

Madison is an old historic city and was designated as one of 12 Distinctive Destinations of 2001 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Some facts about Madison Indiana:

? Madison’s downtown historic district contains over 1,520 nineteenth century structures (133 blocks listed on the National Register of Historic Places) designating it Indiana’s largest historic district.
? Madison is home to the famous Madison Regatta that is held the last week in June each year.
? Madison was the site of the filming of the Hollywood motion picture "Some Came Running" starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Shirley McClain.
? Madison was the site of the filming of "Madison" the movie. It is the story of the 1971 Indiana Governor's Gold Cup Hydroplane Race won by Miss Madison.
? Madison has the steepest grade non-cog railroad in the United States (5.89%) Irish immigrant railroad workers used the stones from the incline to construct St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in 1839.
? Madison has the only city owned unlimited hydroplane racing boat in the world: Miss Madison.

There are many websites about Madison Indiana; this one has links to much information:

Because Madison, Indiana is less that one hour drive time from both Louisville, Ky and Cincinnati, OH  Amusement parks, Zoos, Museums, Casinos and everything else that we may want to do are close yet we are staying is a  historic quaint small town.

I have spoken to a few local CC's & members and if Madison is chosen I feel that I will have the team available to coordinate a great National event and I will start securing the hotel and cruise plans soon after.

I think this is a GREAT idea Butch!

I recall fondly 30+ years ago when a couple of my fraternity brothers would host a big weekend party at their family "farm" near Madison the weekend of Madison Regatta.  We'd set up tents in a field and camp out and they'd have a rock band give a concert.  Remember one particularly hot day actually sitting in the Ohio River on the KY side watching the hydroplanes race by.

If I hadn't partied so hard I'd probably have even better memories of it!

If we need to do this we need to warn anyone who may bring a motorcycle that if they ride across the bridge into KY they need to be wearing a helmet - they're required in KY but not IN.  They used to hand out a whole lot of tickets for riding without a helmet during the Regatta.

As another possible activity, some of our members who use their AVs as boat tow vehicles may enjoy some Ohio River boating.

Speaking of the bridge into Ky, have you read the story of the new bridge??

Seems they are in the process of replacing the Madison/Milton bridge right now. The new bridge is 20' wider but looks a lot like the old bridge. They built it on temperary footings and are blowing up sections of the old bridge. When it is all gone they will revamp the old footing and "SLIDE" the new bridge over where the old one was and this is a 2,427-foot-long bridge!!

All the while the new bridge is open to traffic (well not during the blowing up process). The bridge traffic was only stopped for 10 days total, how cool!!

Here is a link to the process:

Oh and I am glad that you know the area because  I WILL NEED HELP if this is chosen as our 2014 Nationals!

Any car things to do around there. Maybe a Classic Car museum or Motorcycle museum.

I haven't researched that yet. I do know that there is a railroad museum there. I would bet that there are a few automotive museums in Louisville & Cincinnati if not in Madison.

Nice sir I was just curious, I do not know the area. Maybe a park to enjoy some horse back running.

No, I was unaware of the new bridge - that's cool though how they are doing it.  I'll look forward to seeing it.  I haven't been back to that area in about 30 years.  I'll be happy to help out.  Maquest says I'm about 2 hours from Madison.

Mapquest says under an hour from Madison to Kentucky Speedway.  Don't see anything online about their 2014 shedule - maybe we can arrange to drive around the track?  I've met a guy from around here who's had his vette on that track.  I think the Brickyard in Indy is where the big NASCAR boys will be that weekend.

Probably too far but Madison is a bit over 3 hours per Mapquest to Somerset, KY, which hosts a big car show the 4th weekend of the month April-October with this year's July event Showcase Spotlight being Camaros and Firebirds.  I recall seeing a My Classic Car episode from there and recall in that show seeing a very nice 55 or 56 Chevy 4-door convertible - obvioulsy custom and very well done.

There's the Indiana wine trail driving tour - Madison is on that with 3 of the trail's 6 wineries located in and around Madison.

Another winery on the trail is 25 miles east of Madison along the Ohio River Scenic Byway.

Clifty Falls State Park borders Madison.  The Park's lodge features an elevated view of the River.

All good information! We pass through Madison on our way to Tennessee and have read about it and what it has to offer but have not spent a lot of time there. i know that it is a beautiful location and they do host several large events so I know that they could accommodate us!

The Belterra Casino has an excellent buffet at a reasonable price, plus some slot machine action to boot, its close by as well!  I don't remember whether it has a separate dining facility as in a meeting room or not, but easy enough to find out, lol

I received a visitors guide in the mail yesterday from the Madison Visitors Bureau. There are some great things to do in the area that I was not aware of.

If Madison is chosen we will put  team together and come up with a schedule that should satisfy all members and their family. If you live close to Madison and would like to help with some scouting and sending me some pictures please let me know!

Thanks, Butch
